Hermit Interactions in Season 10, one month in
This season has been so great already, so many close by basing hermits have led to many cool new interactions and team-ups, while also giving us returning old friendships. Magic Mountain and The Neighbourhood have been central points of new communities popping up, giving us both old and new dynamics.
I've been a part of a group keeping track of hermit interactions, who shows up in which hermit's videos. Some things are big events, like the introduction cutscene or the opening of the Shopping District (every single hermit was there! that's astounding!), but others are just passing interactions that if you blink you might miss. While we're only about a month in, I wanted to share some fun tidbits I noticed in the data, some start-of-season fun stuff for people. I collected this stuff on Saturday, so some episodes opening the Shopping District are included, but others may have missed out.
1: An entire four episodes have had no guest appearances. Out of over 140 episodes tracked when I collected this data, only four episodes have just a solitary hermit talking to the audience alone. Two of these were from Cub, and two of them were from Wels. That's not even 3% of all videos on Hermitcraft - every single other video has a hermit pop in for one reason or another. It took us nearly two weeks before we even realized we needed a way to indicate that.
2: The most "hermity" hermit award, the ones who've mostly kept to themselves, is a competition currently between Keralis and Zedaph, two folks who weren't able to include the season opener in their videos. Each have hosted ten unique hermits in their videos, though if either releases an episode with the Shopping District opening, given that every hermit was there, that number will certainly change.
3: The Neighborhood is working! All founding members of the Ministry of Ministers feature each other more than most - Beef has Iskall in every video of his, Cleo with Iskall, Beef, Ren, and Hypno, False with Iskall and Ren, et cetra. That said, some do hold others close - Iskall has Mumbo in most of his videos and Hypno has Jev. For some reason, Beef keeps having Skizzleman guest in his videos... I'm sure that duo is all on the up and up!
4: Magic Mountain is similar, but with a larger mix of close and distant friends. Five of the eight hermits who've shown up more than once for Joel are Mountaineers, but Scar has Tango in every video. Impulse's most common guests are all from the mountain, but Mumbo returns the favor to Iskall from the previous point by featuring him in every one of his own videos.
5: For living in a swamp far away, Doc has layers. The only hermit to not make more than one appearance in a Doc video is Wels, who missed out on the season intro unfortunately. Though, for some reason, Doc can't seem to stay out of trouble with Big Salmon - Beef and Skizz have made an appearance in every Doc video so far.
6: Some common friendships are back for us to enjoy! XB and Keralis share each other's top spots, while Gem and Etho appear in each of eachother's videos. Endbusting returns too, with Mumbo and Iskall mentioned above. That said, there are new interactions that have sprung up, Beef and Iskall share the best neighbourhood rivalry with each other, Skizz and Grian have never been further than arm's length from each other, and the Postal Service (Etho, Pearl, and Tango) while starting late have quickly grown strong bonds reminiscent of late-game Decked Out.

After watching Grian's final vid, it made me realise how much I neglect other hermits. Since there's a new, fresh start I want to expand my horizons!

Decked out 2, how to disable door animation?
don't get me wrong I like the door animation and tango did an awesome job with it. but over dozens of runs it takes up a lot of time that could be spent in the dungeon. ideally I would like to just drop a shard in and have the door open instantly.

False Appreciation Post!
Just explored False's mega base on the HC9 download and WOW! It's insanely cool and super fun to explore and I'm not seeing enough people talk about it. Some of the cool things about it are:
* The gradients! Especially on the roofs. She used a lot of blocks most people wouldn't think to use in combination with each other and it looks so good!
* It's *big*! Like, bigger than I thought from watching her videos. I know not everyone likes mega bases but you can't deny the sheer scale of it is impressive.
* It's so interconnected! There's so many different paths through it. It feels like an area from an open-world RPG.
* Almost every room has something interesting in it. Farms, a library, a mini-museum and so much more! And then there's the basement... Hoo boy, the basement.
* The factory! I love the details of the copper and honey being stored in the silo-things and transported back to the castle on the train. Also using brick blocks on that large a scale is serious dedication.
* 2 different minigames in the base. 3 if you include the egg hunt she left for the world download (only found 6/19 so far). The elytra and boat courses are so well integrated into the base and are really fun.
* It feels so authentically *Minecraft.* A lot of hermits go for builds that are more grounded in reality, but that not necessarily better. It's refreshing to see a base that isn't trying to be a specific, real-world thing, but in Minecraft. It's nostalgic in a way. (Obviously not criticising anyone's base, both ways are great!)
So yeah, go and explore False's base, play the elytra and boat courses, do the egg hunt and go check out her videos and streams. She's the best!

A website for searching over hermits video closed captions
Hello HermitCraft enjoyers!
TL;DR: Go here hermits.fyi to search through HermitCraft members videos.
Over at r/ethoslab we've had a way to search through Ethos videos via YouTubes automatic closed captions for a few years.
This was ethopedia.org, but that was recently shut down, so I made my own version: etho.fyi
I had some free time over the new year holidays, so I expanded it to include other HermitCraft members: hermits.fyi
Not all the members videos are available for searching yet (blame YouTube Data API query limits! I've requested increased limits, but it's the holidays, so it's probably gonna take a while :| ), but they will be in a week or so.
Also some videos will be missing since some of them don't have closed captions enabled on them.
You can select through which members videos you want to search on the right (or the bottom for mobile).
The members that are grayed out, haven't had their videos indexed yet (again, blame YouTube).
Search example:
gem great
will search through the videos for where the words "gem" and "great" were used in close proximity.
If you want to search for the phrase "mumbo for mayor" you can enclose it in quotes:
"mumbo for mayor"
This will only display videos where the whole phrase was used.
You can filter the results by removing words/phrases from the query:
"mumbo for mayor" -poster
This will display videos with the phrase "mumbo for mayor", where the word "poster" wasn't used.
You can filter the results by the title:
title:hermitcraft
This will only display videos that have the word "hermitcraft" in the title.
If you want to search for a phrase you can enclose it in quotes:
title:"decked out"
You can do this multiple times, this will only display videos that have both "hermitcraft" and "decked out" in the title:
title:hermitcraft title:"decked out"
You can also remove words/phrases from the title, this will only display videos that have "decked out" in the title, but not "hermitcraft":
title:-hermitcraft title:"decked out"
You can filter the results by length:
length:>1800
This will only display videos that are over 30 minutes in length.
length:<3600
This will only display videos that are less than an hour in length.
You can combine these to filter between a range of lengths:
length:>1800 length:<3600
Alternately you can search for specific length videos:
length:1284
Will display videos that are exactly 1284 seconds in length (sometimes the YouTube display is off by one second).
You can filter the results by upload date:
date:<2023-01-31
This will display videos that were uploaded on January 31st 2023 or earlier.
date:>2016-06-01
This will display videos that were uploaded on June 1st 2023 or later.
You can combine these to filter between a range of dates:
date:>2016-06-01 date:<2023-01-31
Note: the date must be formatted exactly like this (<year>-<month>-<day>) with the month being 2 digits long, add a 0 if necessary.
You can sort the videos:
Skizz: Tango, Grian, Joel, Gem, Impulse
Stress: Ren, Iskall
Tango: Etho
Wels: Ren
XB: Keralis
Xisuma: Ren
Zedaph: A tie between every single hemit that's showed up in his videos - X, Keralis, Skizz, Etho, Tango, Gem, iskall, Joel, Bdubs, and Mumbo!

sort:date
This will sort the videos by upload date in descending order.
sort:length
This will sort the videos by their length in descending order.
If you want to sort them in ascending order you can use:
sort:<date
sort:<length
There is also random sorting:
sort:random
This will sort the videos in a random order (there will be duplicates if you scroll long enough!).
