The next step for social media activism.
Right now we have loads of meme pages with tons and tons of followers on some of them, this is great.
We also have loads of small local leftist organizations like the poor people's campaign, climate protest groups, tenant unions, and others with facebook pages that don't get nearly as much traffic but need people to show up for the protests and events they organize.
We regularly see meme pages boosting each other, this is great because it helps with exposure for smaller groups to get started growing. What we need now is for those same meme groups both large and small to start linking and boosting the on the boots on the ground side (with permission from those groups of course) It doesn't have to be a constant thing, just a shoutout to a group ahead of a public event they are organizing to boost attendance, or tagging them in a post to thank them for work they're doing in their community can have a huge impact from a meme group with literally thousands of members in terms of helping our activist networks grow stronger and reach more like minded people in their communities. You could even advertise fundraisers for these groups (if they have any and are ok with it).
Use the social media algorithms to your advantage to get small local groups that have an impact trending so they can really grow.

What is to be done?
Organization is non-existent in America. There are small communities and reading groups, however that hardly constitutes "organizing". Our political groups are split into many parties and none have an ounce of support.
Ideas on actually getting a national organization together?

Resources on the critique of political economy?
Title. To be more specific, I'm interesred in a more theoretically dense overview of the relationship between capitalism and poverty/crisis. I've studied the tendency for the rate of profit to fall, the formation of a reserve army of labor and the leninist definitions of imperialism. I still feel as if I am looking into economics in a one-sided manner and that I am missing key aspects of the systematic nature of capitalism. I'm wary of David Harvey because one of my most respected researchers scolds him over and over but he seems to be specialized in this area.

Thoughts on recent social media bans
Hello all. Long time lurker, first time poster. I’m just wondering what people here think about the social media giants suddenly growing a conscience. Someone else posted in another subreddit asking what people thought of parler getting booted from the App Store etc. Are people more happy that these types of harmful ideologies are being targeted by social media, or more concerned about the future implications this has on free speech in general? Nuanced views welcome!

I’m moving to the US soon. Is it too hard to find other marxists/communist/socialists?
Let me know if I’m in the wrong subreddit, but whenever I see other americans (US) on social media or just media in general it is always is full of liberal, capitalist propaganda and ideals, sometimes with them not even being aware of it. I’ll be going to college soon on what (I think) will be a state in the north, and I’ve been told that in college it is easier to find such folks. Is that true, and is people in the US as liberal as they seem? Will I have to radicalize all my friends?
I come from latin america so people here in general are more familiar with the concept of being anti-capitalist.

The United States includes Cuba again in the unilateral list of "countries terrorism sponsors"
Washington, Jan 11 (Prensa Latina) The United States government today included Cuba again on its unilateral list of countries that, according to Washington, sponsor terrorism, an action that follows the hostile line of the Donald Trump administration.
A document published this Monday by the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, confirms the inclusion of the largest of the Antilles in that unilateral list, in which it has not appeared since 2015. Since taking office in January 2017, Trump has promoted a more hostile policy towards Cuba, as part of his plans to strengthen the economic, commercial and financial blockade, imposed for almost six decades.
After hearing the news, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, condemned the "hypocritical and cynical qualification of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism."

Resources for learning about the crimes of Imperial Japan, as well as the Japanese Communist Movement?
Hi there comrades, I don't know about you but in school I was never introduced to the true magnitude of the imperialist crimes committed by the Japanese empire. Through learning more about the history of the DPRK & China since then, I've learned more about the truly nefarious and inhuman nature of Japanese imperialism, but even so this information was not exactly the main focus of the books I read. I'm basically looking for resources that look critically at Imperial Japan, earnestly examine its history and actions, and also how the communist movement tried to combat this. I know the JCP had representatives in the Comintern, so there must be something out there. Maybe something on the Soviet-Japanese relations from the 30s & 40s would be really good to. Thanks, as always! <3

Any good sources about left libertarianism?
Are there any good sources, be it books, other reddit posts etc. that make a thorough analysis of left libertarianism and the right wing version? I've heard multiple times that libertarianism was hijacked by right wingers, and it confuses me a lot because of this: right libertarianism espouses this concept of "absolute freedom" (at least in theory, freedom doesn't really exist if you're forced under the threat of starvation) of markets and, the most psychotic ones, believe that laws such as the age of consent should be abolished. How does left libertarianism differ from this and other leftist ideologies?

Thoughts from a former anarchist
Like many Western leftists my entry point was anarchism. I'd always heard this one-dimensional picture of all socialist governments. But at the same time I was pretty sick of the status quo, I was looking for a way to articulate a different paradigm. Anarchism seemed like a good answer because it was anti-capitalist but also not associated with all the scary images I associated with Marxism. I think I also felt more comfortable calling myself an anarchist because I didn't want to see myself as authoritarian or oppressive or violent. I feel it was often about my own sense of purity or morality, I was thinking less about material conditions and constraints on revolutionary action then.
Anarchism is also more focused on the individual, which appeals in a North American context.
Anarchism is beautiful in theory, but over time I just got more and more disillusioned. I just felt like I never heard "big picture" theorizing or strategizing among my anarchist comrades. We did some great work at a local level, but I didn't see any connection between the local level and the broader, systemic one. What were our goals? How were we going to build a revolutionary movement? How were we going to create non-hierarchical communism? We all talked to getting to point Y from point X, but I never learned how. When I asked my comrades they told me that anarchism is not a goal, that it's a daily practice too.... I saw value in that on some level, I made good friends and connections, but surely we need to set our sights higher than small-scale community building?
Around 2017 and 2018 I read a lot more Marxist literature. I read the Marx-Engels Reader, the 4 volume series on modern history by Eric Hobsbawm, Black Jacobins, and October by China Mieville. I read Paulo Freire and Lenin and others. I read about imperialism and racial capitalism and slavery. I read about workers' movements around the world. It showed me how deep and powerful Marxism is as a tool for analyzing capital and our own context, and it gave me a clearer idea of things. Although I still have anarchist friends, I am a Marxist now. I don't hate anarchists, I just see that capitalist ideology conditions everyone and that anarchism is appealing to new leftists (because of the focus on individualism). I hope more will be radicalized toward Marxism like I was.

In traveling to the Philippines a few times to integrate with mass organizations there, something that always struck me was the practice of cultural work and how it is integrated into the political struggles. There really is a comprehensive revolutionary culture that is being developed ahead of the seizure of state power which includes art but also things like slang and even the practice of romantic relationships. Political art is often created under the direction of collectives, to ensure the sharpest political line and to combat the petit bourgeois individualism that is common among artists.
This list is really just a selection from a much wider range of different culturals that are produced in the sphere of the movement. These range from culturals directly created by either the legal mass movement organizations or orgs of the underground armed movement, to work created by individuals influenced by the movement, to documentaries about the movement. I tried to select culturals that are well known as well as ones that I like, and ones that I think would prove interesting for communists who want to learn about the Philippines revolution.

I want a technical job in science but I don't want to be an accessory to capitalism. What do I do?
Hello comrades!
I'm currently getting a PhD in Biology (with a concentration in cell biology and evolution). I'll be done in a year or two (I hope), and then starts the job hunt. Truthfully, I initially wanted a job in academia (professor/lecturer etc.), but the last few years and a fair amount of reading theory have radicalized me towards more concrete social goals...rather than dealing with more abstract biological questions. I want to contribute in projects - be it educational, research oriented or organizing - and not be another tool for a company that seeks to maximize profits.
Where do scientists figure in the revolution? How do I start building a network of radicalized scientists?
Any leads appreciated.
Take good care of yourselves. Ciao!

Marxist historians movie scene
Hi there,
I remember seeing a movie a while back where one guy jokingly talks about marxist historians but I can’t quite remember what movie it was.
It was one of those American Pie-esque college films and if I remember correctly the scene took place in a bar.
I‘d greatly appreciate if somebody knows the movie and could help me find it again.
