Greek universities need your solidarity
During the pandemic and as the Greek universities have been closed for one year, the government decided to bring a relevant authoritarian bill.
Some of the key point are:
Creation of police forces (1.000 policemen will guard the universities, sth like a campus police, which won't be held accountable to the University authorities, but to the Ministry of Civil Protection).
Surveillance system in all over the campuses.
Entrance checks for anyone who enters the campus.
Criminal prosecutions and expulsions of students, for putting put up banners, posters or due to noise pollution. Most of the academic community is against the bill, as it violates both our rights and the freedom to disseminate ideas and knowledge.
We fight, but its not enough, we need the international solidarity of other universities! We ask you to spread the news and help us stand against this bill!

Can anyone please help me debunk this??
Hello comrades, I'd really appreciate if anyone could provide academic sources to disprove the RW rhetoric that minimum wages for workers are apparently detrimental to capitalists and by extension to the whole economy as it allegedly causes inflation and unemployment??
Thanks in advance,
Have a nice day

Do you think the amount of books you read (on Marxism and other ideological ideas) determine your knowledge when discussing/debating these topics?
It feels like books can be summarized really well and there is much more information to be found out outside a book. I think it’s good to have the knowledge of the books in your head but is it necessary?

You cannot be Marxist and non-vegan.
Animals represent the lowest class in society; the sub-proletariat. It is easy to see how Marxist theories can apply to both humans and nonhuman animals.
Animals are enslaved to produce products for our capitalist society. They have no choice in the matter, and they can easily be slaughtered for deviating from the norms expected of them as an animal. They are alienated from their product, just like how the proletariat are alienated from the fruits of labour.
Furthermore, meat itself is inherently a symbol of wealth and the bourgeoise. For centuries, only the upper classes have been able to eat it, and even today it remains a symbol of wealth, Americanism and the Global North in general.
Being vegan is inherently apart of a more communist movement. Thoughts/discussion?

Just a question of curiosity - how many Eastern Europeans are here?
Is there any way to check the statistics? I'm doing a test, a survey on how many people from Eastern Europe want communism back and why.
Live surveys are unavailable, so i'm doing whatever i can. So far the numbers aren't that great.
I'm from Lithuania, a post USSR state. About only 1/20, if not less people want it back
The catch is that they don't want communism - they miss the USSR for the "traditionalist aspect" of it. Deffo not the economic aspects.
Is there a way i can do a survey here? Of course there will be westerners posing as Eastern Europeans, which i find funny as most from Eastern Europe want to move west, but at least it's something.

Where to buy theory books
So I’ve been buying pretty much all my books on theory on Amazon, which feels a little ironic. Would there be any source that I could buy books that is preferable to Amazon? I know there is a bunch for free online, but I am not a huge fan of reading on my phone/laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

Are there any older Russian/ex-Soviet citizens who defiantly call things like cities & monuments by their old names (like calling "St. Petersburg" Leningrad, or "Volgograd" Stalingrad)?
Just a really random thought that came into my head lol. I would imagine after about 3 decades-worth of "de-Russification" and "de-communization" measures that doing this now would turn some heads, but I can't imagine being a person who lived in one of these cities for so long and then the next day being forced to call it by another watered-down name. Though I would like to think there are like some 80 or 90 year-old folks who remember how things really were, and refuse to give up the revolutionary legacies of these names ...

Difficulty understanding the difference between communism as its own thing and socialism as its own thing
Hey Comrades!
Reading State and Revolution it seems pretty clear that socialism is posed by Lenin as a "soft communism" part of the "withering away" of capitalism and the state...
What I have difficulty with is understanding the difference between Socialism as Part of the Road to Communism and Socialism as its Own Thing.
I gather that communal societies go back to ancient history and that socialism predates Marxism, but what I don't understand is how or why socialism can, would, or does stand on its own apart from communism and even possibly apart from Marxism.
Can someone please clarify the difference?
I think another part of the issue is that today many people identify as "Socialist" but mean "Democratic Socialist" in America at least it seems like the "Left" (liberal left) is as confused and mistaken about socialism as the Right (who call anyone not a republican a socialist.)

What were/are the symbols used by Socialist/Communist/Soviet Entertainers and Artists?
I recall seeing a socialist symbol which incorporated a symbol for entertainers. I aspire to be a musician, and just learning more about the socialist symbols, and socialist history of art is of great interest to me. Thank you so much for helping me learn Reddit :)

dangers of being a communist
to preface this I am mentally ill.
After this year of fucking around reading theory and debating in my social circle, I've decided that all my leftist navel gazing is useless if I don't actually do something about it IRL. My question is if it's actually dangerous (in terms of govt suppression etc...) to publicly be a communist (I live in NSW australia.) Thanks in advance for any insight.

Anyone familiar with Struggle La Lucha/Socialist Unity Party?
I recently stumbled on a website and some discussions about this organization. It appears that they're descended from Workers World in some way, as they have multiple articles about or written by Sam Marcy on their site, so they're in that tradition in some way. But I can't find anything about them online outside of their site. Anyone know what their origins are?

thoughts on bernie sanders?
hi friends!
i’m unsure if this has been discussed before, but i am interested in genuine criticisms of bernie sanders politics. he’s obviously very appealing to liberals—even those who might be more left-leaning than they know—but as a social democrat he’s views are still incongruent to communism.

Really struggle with reading theory.
Hi, for the past year or so I have been trying to engage more with Marxism-Leninism and the amount of reading that goes along with it and I'm not really getting very far.
When I was younger I read a lot, but since my late teens, untreated bipolar 2 and ADHD have been making it a slow-going and nightmarish process. I was on the mental health waiting list for 3 years in the UK until I finally got referred to a counsellor who was mainly just interested in helping me find work and cope with anxiety, so I finally just decided to go on an anti-depressant in 2019, which literally made my attention problems much worse (this hasn't gone away a year and a half later.)
Now for all of 2020 I have spent trying out audiobooks and podcasts and some other alternatives, but if I'm being honest it is very slow going and I sometimes have to listen to the same audiobook 7 or 8 times before I can actually recall even half the information. Unable to get any help on the NHS at all due to the pandemic and was already on a mental health waiting list (it's almost impossible to see a psychiatrist where I live unless you're at high risk of killing yourself.)
I guess I'm looking for any sort of alternative "reading lists", advice, just anything helpful. I get that it's not all about quoting theory, and I do get involved a lot in online discussion, but this is a weakness I would very much like to overcome. Thanks in advance.

Help me find a book
Reading about Erich Honecker I have found that a book was published around 2010 in Italy called “Appunti dal carcere” (meaning notes from prison) in which he talks about the last period of the DDR and how Gorbachev acted.
I can’t find the book anywhere, does anyone have a digital copy? Thanks

USSR and the construction of the Moscow Metro
Greetings Comrades! Today I would like to present to you one of the most significant Soviet Marvels, the Moscow Metro. It was constructed as a palace, with its own monuments and legends, yet it still holds many secrets to this day, with many people still searching for hidden bunkers, secret metro lines, and relics of the past.
