by the blood he's drawing from everyone and everything that stands in his way. the only thing driving him forward is "the black throne", what he's striving for. (does he want to become king of hell or something?). at this one point he is an unfeeling killing machine with one single objective, and nothing else matters.
♥You want this power? Then come try and take it♥
= my favourite line in all of the song, i actually love to repeat this to myself! if i analyzed this i'd project but fuck it. it's still an insane thought, he thinks that somehow something is looking to get his power when it's probably all in his head, yet this makes him feel even stronger, in fact he challenges whoever wants to take what's his from him to try, knowing that he'll defeat them anyway.
Beyond the tree, fire burns
Secret love, bloodline yearns
Dark minds embrace, crimson joy
= nevermind, THIS is the actual peak of his madness (this time it's actually straight up pure insanity). meaningless thoughts bouncing in his head. the themes here are of love and death, that fucking eros and thanatos my literature professors loved to brag about and i am seething since they're right and it's great symbolism.
Does your dim heart heal or destroy?
= referred to dante. the last glimmer of hope to be somehow saved, which will be crushed in the next line.
Bury the light deep within
Cast aside, there's no coming home
= he forces himself to suppress his humanity. he can't kill it, but after all he's done he feels like he doesn't deserve the small light that's still inside of him, so he buries deep under all of the darkness he has accumulated. there's no coming home, as in there's no going back, he has plunged into the abyss and won't ever be able to come back up, no matter what happens.
We're burning chaos in the wind
Drifting in the ocean all alone
= he has lost all hope, but he still tries to tie this back to dante (because it says "we're" and not "i'm"). he wants to convince himself that dante is just as alone as him in this, and he finds a little solace in that company (and not in the fact that dante is suffering like him).
small considerations about the music now:
this song is melancholy hidden under aggression and delusions of omnipotence. just before the chorus there is always an 'expanding' sort of feeling brought by the drums, kind of like a spark turning into a wildfire. but when rock isn't blasting in your ears, you can hear the sad notes the violin plays. the guitar solo after the last chorus, the one that says bury the light, is pure desperation, a screaming voice over the chaos of this song. i can also see a little titanism in there (titanism is a thing in literature that i can sum up as in total loneliness, yet being a cut above the rest). but no matter what emotion it's playing, there's always the theme of absolute power. a melancholic confidence of being able to strike down whatever is in your way, even if that means ending up completely and utterly alone.

this is a tragic song about a man going down a terrible path as he thinks he has no other choice.

and there we go! what a ramble this has been. thank you if you read up until this point, i'll also write my thoughts about devil trigger and subhuman in the comments!

obviously disregarding the story, what dont you like about the reboot? if it was released under a different name would your feelings be any different?
in my opinion the game is good, but what i believe kills it for me and other people is the game being released as a devil may cry. i believe that if it wasn't release as one the game would have a better acceptance

A very long analysis of Bury the Light's lyrics
hello there! i'm a literature nerd and a DMC5's osts lover. i don't know much about the lore to be honest, but i've got a thing for power-hungry characters and bury the light specifically, so i decided to try and overanalyze it. the clock says 4 am. enjoy my ramble!
Immortal temptation
Takes over my mind, condemned
= refers to power hunger, so we're off to a great start! it's both a kind of natural and instinctual one, you know, the strongest survive etc but it also has a double meaning that leads towards a religious theme, because that kind of power hunger is the synthesis of some deadly sins (mainly pride, envy and gluttony). i'd say the religious aspect is not far fetched because, well, he is a half demon.
Falling weak on my knees
Summon the strength of mayhem
= tells the trauma that gave vergil an obsessive power hunger, he was helpless in that moment and he didn't want to feel like that ever again, so it all starts from there. then it's a slow buildup towards the power fantasy that is the normal chorus.
I am the storm that is approaching
Provoking black clouds in isolation
I am reclaimer of my name
Born in flames, I have been blessed
My family crest is a demon of death = hyperbolic analogies to represent just what kind of absolute power this guy managed to get
Forsakened, I am awakened
A phoenix's ash in dark divine
Descending misery
Destiny chasing time
= but still, it has a dark tone to it, a kind of villain one because vergil is aware that he's playing the part of the bad guy here, yet it's the only way for him to reclaim the respect he once lost. he's aware how lonely he has become, but he feels like he wouldn't be able to do anything without absolute power.
Inherit the nightmare, surrounded by fate
Can't run away
Keep walking the line, between the light
Led astray
= but after the pure grandiose delusion the chorus is, something changes. he realizes that he's going too far with this and tries to excuse that by saying "it's fate" that makes him go that way, when it's very much not. he knows that if he keep this up he'll go off the deep end yet says that he 'can't' stop, while in reality he doesn't want to stop but doesn't want to accept that yet.
Through vacant halls I won't surrender
The truth revealed in eyes of ember
We fight through fire and ice forever
= then he meets dante again. since from what i've seen these two have got a blue-red relationship, and even if they're brothers (twins?) vergil feels like they won't ever be able to have a good relationship and he highlights this by portraying himself and dante as opposite elements that cancel themselves out when coming into contact (fire melts ice, ice extinguishes fire).
Two souls once lost, and now they remember
=but still, deep down he's content with this, because fighting endlessly means that they'll stay together forever, even if in an antagonistic way. he still loves his brother, yet his own ambition stops him from trying to make up with him.
chorus repeats, another display of power.
Disappear into the night
Lost shadows left behind
Obsession's pulling me
= but vergil's self control is faltering. he acknowledges how this power hunger has become an obsession he can't handle and he's about to let it swallow him whole.
Fading, I've come to take what's mine
= what makes vergil himself is fading, but he doesn't care because of his ambition. he feels that his humanity (both figuratively and literally) is a good price to pay to do what he needs to.
Lurking in the shadows under veil of night
Constellations of blood pirouette
Dancing through the graves of those who stand at my feet
Dreams of the black throne I keep on repeat
A derelict of dark, summoned from the ashes
The puppet master congregates all the masses
Pulling strings, twisting minds as blades hit
You want this power? Then come try and take it
= the peak of his madness (the objective-driven, cold and ruthless one). flashes of memories and scenes blend together, all coloured
What kind of Devil Arms do you think characters the likes of the 4 bosses or the final bosses would have turned into?
This kind of stuff is what keeps me up at night. Cause, like, on the one hand, there are ideas that are obvious to me. Echidna would be a whip that shoots out her seeds, Berial would be a big ass flame sword that even Dante would have to hold with two hands, Jester would be a pack of cards with random effects.
Dagon and Bael are harder to guess, but I always liked the idea of them becoming flails or something like that. I always liked the idea of Griffon turning into a Violin or something.
Feel free to give ideas.

Let’s say hypothetically…
In a alternate universe Sparda’s an Angel, but eve is still a human, the angels are the main villains and the demons don’t exist in this universe, and there’ll be demonic looking angels as opposed to angelic looking demons, how would the story turn out?
Dante, Vergil, Nero, and Sparda will have black hair instead of silver
