I made a browser extension that lets you hover over footballer names to get instant insight into their career/statistics.
Hi FantasyPL fans!
Before I get started, I want to highlight that I asked the mods for permission to post this, and they granted permission.
My reason for building this:
As a football fan, I got tired of constantly opening a new tab and Googling a player's name to get information on them. I realized that I largely stopped Googling player's names because it became too tedious and therefore I ended up missing out on information.
If there was a way for me to simply hover over the names I would not only gain insight exactly when I wanted it, but over an entire year I would gain substantially more information.
I realized that this tool is not only beneficial for the football community, but it can have vast utility for any other industry: basketball, tennis, financial education, literature
My goal is to ultimately build a way for “hover-able keywords” to be open-sourced, so people from any community/interest, can create these hover-able interactions to save time and gain deeper insight.
Source of data:
I decided to use Wikipedia as the source when you hover over a player, with the option of clicking on the “transfermarkt” logo to open the individuals transfermarkt page.
I plan to add more options in the future like whoscored, etc (so let me know if you have a strong preference!)
The database for football covers 200k+ men and women spanning all across the world. It will be updated regularly to accommodate new players (like youth, etc)
Current limitations:
I’ve built this tool for the Chrome web browser. But it works on browsers that accept Chrome extensions (Edge, Brave, Opera, Arc, etc).
Over time I hope to add it to more web browsers and also as a mobile extension (safari seems the only one to allow this currently, but hopefully Google will add extensions eventually).
I haven’t added clubs, or competitions yet, but I hope to in future updates.
There are many players with duplicate names… think how many Moussa Dembele’s there are. With the added “transfermarkt” option in the top right, it allows you to find the correct player much faster.
It mostly works with First name Last Name → So Mo Salah will work, but just Salah won’t. Looking to potentially fix this in future updates.
Key features:
Hover keywords on any website
Customize appearance of the keywords
Quick hide feature (right-click anywhere to hide all keywords, or blacklist specific keywords)
Select unlimited interests (currently only Football, and American Football → with more on the way!)
Regular database updates (more on this in the “lessons learned” section of this post)
A few bugs I’m working to fix in the next updates:
Speed (there are times when the tool takes quite a few seconds to initiate. Due to the way the program was built it will not affect your performance, but it may simply take time to finish working)
Reliability (It’s functional for most names. But in some edge cases it will skip them, like some odd accents, or the occasional name)
Lessons learned from previously building this tool:
8 years ago I built a similar tool and promoted it on /r/soccer and it got incredible acclaim (6000+ upvotes). I grew that tool to 60k users who adored the tool, but I failed to monetize it and in turn, lost interest in maintaining the tool. This time around I have decided to primarily monetize it (there is a 2-week free trial, with monthly or yearly plans). This monetization will allow me to maintain, hire, and develop this tool into the best version it can be. That is my commitment.

Pablo Sarabia - the forgotten hero for GWs 26-31?
Pros:
-Cost 4.7m
-Highest xGI/90min (0.60) from the wolves trio
-Looks to be nailed since Cunha is injured
-Might also be on pens? (Never missed one 16/16)
Cons:
-Rarely plays the full game
-Hwang (5.5m) seems to be the more solid choice because of his goal threat (if you have the money)
-I have not watched a single wolves game so don’t know what Sarabia’s actual role is in the attack
Would especially appreciate wolves fans input in this discussion; is there any other reason to go for Sarabia over Hwang/Neto than the cheaper price?

Haaland TC gang - how do you feel?
30 points is better than 12 points (2+2). However, I always feel that TC chip should give you at least 20 extra points.
So, for myself, I wasn't satisfied at all. Now, we need to pray for Solanke to not score too much on DGW28.
