Liverpool injury situation & FPL opportunistic options
Congrats to Liverpool! A big win and trophy yesterday, but it did not come cheap.
Currently I am counting that 8 of the regular starting XI (total 13 players) are either out or doubtful, and the next match will be early match on Saturday. Also, yesterday VVD, Diaz and Elliot played full 120 min, which makes fatigue even more of a factor.
The injury list of the team is longer than the rant thread. Some longer absences are the following:
* Alisson - back for April?
* TAA- back for April?
* Matip - Back for last 2 GWs?
* Jota - Out for the season
* Jones - Back for end of March?
* Endo - TBC, had a protective boot after yesterday and crutches
* Thiago - Out for the season
* Doak - Out for the season
There's a couple of doubtful players as well, namely the usual suspects
* Salah - Not on the bench yesterday
* Szobo - Not on the bench yesterday
* Gravenberch - Fresh injury, apparently ligament damage
* Darwin - Not on the bench yesterday
***What do we make out of this***
GK: **Kelleher** seems to be set for 4 more GWs. Outside City fixture, this could be worth a punt for those who can spare a transfer for a keeper. At 3.7 he might release good funds elsewhere.
Defence: **VVD** seems to be the settled CB. **Bradley** might be a great punt for next 4 GWs before TAA comes back. With Tsimikas, Robertson, Konate and Gomez other positions have less predictability.
Midfield: **Luis Diaz** is the only fit starter, but he has played 120 min in the League Cup final. Same applies to **Elliot**, but Salah might be back 'any day now'. **MacAllister** might get some forward options while the obvious attacking options are more uncertain.
Attack: **Gakpo** turned out to be a DGW hero and has the option to play also as a midfielder.
Tl;dr:
* It's a massacre
* Long-term assets ATM: VVD, Diaz
* Short-term options: Kelleher, Bradley, Gapko
* Punts: Elliot, MacAllister
* Monitor the FA Cup fixture on Wednesday for early updates on Salah, Nunez and Szobo

Picks and transfers the veteran managers made this week compared to sample of top 100k (GW26)
Regular (but late this week) feature to compare the picks of 2166 FPL veterans against a sample of about 10k teams from the top 100k. Any team in my sample of top 100k which hasn't made a transfer in last 3 weeks gets excluded.

The 2166 veterans made 4308 transfers this GW. 49 ( 2.3 %) played their wild card.
( 18.7 % have now played WC)
For the picks comparison, I have filtered out the low ownership (but high ratio > 1.5 ) players (threshold is 2%). If you don't see a player below then it will be because there is not enough ownership or the ratio is not big enough.
But you should be able to see all players in the googlesheets pointed to by the links

But they a) have multiple teams and cherry pick their results; b) their weekly guide mentions basically 15+ of the best players in the game without distinction; and c) their captain picks bear little resemblance to the captain they choose themselves

The hidden stat that I find vital for FPL - xEG
So a bit of context first. I used to be obsessed with football. If there was a match on I'd be watching it. Between everyday life and VAR, I've fallen out of love with the game in recent years to the point where I'd only watch my own team's matches.
Then FPL came along, and suddenly there's no way I'm missing Aston Villa Vs Sheffield United if I have Watkins and my ML rival doesn't. I've gone from watching 1 match a week to watching 5, and celebrating goals from my differentials as if it was my own team scoring.
And that's what brings me on to an important metric for picking players that I've never seen anyone refer to - xEG, or Expected Enjoyment Per Game. So when I'm deciding between 2 players, one thing I'll consider is 'Do I want to spend 90 minutes watching this team every week?''.
Obviously if there's a big difference in expected points, I'll suck it up and sit through some boring matches. But say I'm deciding between Neto and Bowen or between Gross and Olise, sign me up for watching Wolves' and Brighton's entertaining fast paced football every week over the dross I had to sit through when I had West Ham and Crystal Palace assets.
This isn't relevant for those competing right at the top of the leaderboards, but I'm curious to know if anyone else who's playing the game for fun actually takes into account how much they'll enjoy watching the players when they're considering transfers?

Summary: Team news information we have so far
BRENTFORD | Thomas Frank is hoping to have Bryan Mbeumo back after the March international break.
Josh Dasilva has had surgery on his serious knee injury.
Pinnock, Hickey, Schade and Henry remain out.
SHEFF UTD | Chris Wilder said, "I'm not going to give anything away, the game is hard enough".
There's been some "progression" but no names were revealed. Archer, Diaz and Baldock missed GW25.
NOTT'M FOREST | Nuno revealed that Forest's AFCON contingent - Ola Aina, Willy Boly and Ibrahim Sangare returned from the competition with injuries.
They are unavailable for GW26.
BRIGHTON | Roberto De Zerbi revealed that Karou Mitoma (back) is a major doubt for GW26.
In better news, Julio Enciso will be on the bench after recovering from his long-term injury.
ASTON VILLA | Unai Emery confirmed that Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos and Jhon Duran will miss GW26.
Boubacar Kamara has undergone surgery on his ACL injury.
MAN UTD | Rasmus Hojlund will miss GW26 and is sidelined for "two to three weeks".
Luke Shaw (muscle) is expected to be out for months.
Malacia, Mount, Martinez, Wan-Bissaka and Martial remain out.
BOURNEMOUTH | Romain Faivre will return after missing the trip to Newcastle through illness but the Cherries will again be without Max Aarons, James Hill, Tyler Adams and Ryan Fredericks.
Philip Billing serves the final game of a three-match ban following his dismissal in Gameweek 23.
WEST HAM | David Moyes revealed that Lucas Paqueta is "back in training and very close to returning... he’s in contention".
Kalvin Phillips is suspended.

CRYSTAL PALACE | New boss Oliver Glasner confirmed Guehi, Eze and Olise remain out. The squad will be the same as GW25.

CHELSEA | Pochettino wasn't giving too much away ahead of the League Cup final.
The club bulletin reveals Thiago Siva and Marc Cucurella are in "partial team training". Carney Chukwuemeka is also racing to be fit.
ARSENAL | Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko are nearing a return, although Takehiro Tomiyasu seems slightly behind the others.
Arteta will assess the first three names in training today and make a decision.
LIVERPOOL | Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez will all be assessed before Sunday’s EFL Cup final.
But we won’t see Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson or Diogo Jota, all of whom look set to be out until after the March international break.
Curtis Jones may be back before then but not in time for the clash with Chelsea at Wembley.
NEWCASTLE | Alexander Isak and Joe Willock have both trained this week with one more training session today, however Eddie Howe "won’t take any risks" with the pair.
Fabian Schar has recovered from the wrist injury that he sustained in last weekend’s draw with Bournemouth.
BURNLEY | Vincent Kompany confirmed that Aaron Ramsey's season is over but he will make a full recovery.
Jordan Beyer remains flagged.
Charlie Taylor returned (albeit as a substitute) in GW25.
EVERTON | Vitalii Mykolenko has a knock but Sean Dyche is hopeful the defender will be fit to face Brighton.
Seamus Coleman was ill earlier in the week but has trained today.
Arnaut Danjuma and André Gomes are "working very hard to get fit".
FULHAM | Willian faces a late fitness test ahead of GW26. The only confirmed injury absentee, according to Marco Silva, is Raul Jimenez.
Joao Palhinha begins a two-match ban.
Armando Broja should return after missing GW25 with illness.
WOLVES | Gary O'Neil has confirmed that Matheus Cunha remains Wolves' only injury concern.
