Discussion Need some help for not to get distracted

Straight to the point, I'm a 17 years old teenager and wanna make some decent amount of money.

Ok, so, many of you start telling me to study now rather than focusing into these stuffs. Believe me I also want to. But the problem is my family, my Father. In 2021, my father got a serious heart problem and had a Pacemaker surgery, till now he's living on the pacemaker's help. That time I was only 14, I just stepped on to Teenage. But I had to take the lead of my father's business, it's a shop of groceries. Just imagine how hard it would be for a teenager to take the lead of business instead of playing on the ground. 2021-2023 were the worst years till now of my life. I did everything I could do to stand up the shop. But now he's not even giving me ₹5 to buy anything. Today my mother asked him for some money to buya some pants for me. But he rejected to give any money and said, "Go buy yourself if you can." So the time he was in life-death situation, I was struggling with the shop, he just ignored all the things I suffered in these few years. He even refuse to pay the medical expenses. He wasted all the money on some fcking gal somewhere. All the money I earned that time is almost gone now. The shop is somehow standing. My mother found it out and had all the prooves, but still can't expose him because of 2 reasons, 1 is the fcking society 2 we've nowhere to go. So not every father aren't superhero or Batman or whatever it is.

That's why I'm trying to learn video editing and something called Copywriting stuffs but the problem is I keep getting distracted. No matter how hard I try it's useless. So any help?

article A little bird in my heart says - 'believe in miracles'

Miracles are rare.

They happen in times that we expect the least,

When everything seems lost and when everybody sighs in disbelief.

But, miracles do happen.

And when my dreams become reality,

I wanna be on the camp that believed in that miracle.

I might be disappointed a thousand times before it happens

And it is true that hope is painful.

But, hope is also very powerful

And when the miracle comes true,

I’ll have the power to walk through the storm a thousand times more.

Hi guys, I write on work-life, careers and self-improvement. This subreddit helped a lot in my down times and I want to share my writing here. All the articles are free and I hope these can help anyone who needs a word of inspiration. Thanks <3

ToolPart2, Growing Stronger Through Adversity

Growing through the storm, not around it, is what truly builds your character and resilience. It’s easy to wish for a smoother path, to hope that life’s challenges might somehow pass you by. But the truth is, it’s the storms, the tough times, the setbacks, the moments of doubt, that shape who you are. These are the times that force you to dig deep, to tap into strengths you didn’t even know you had.

Think about a tree facing a fierce storm. The wind doesn’t just brush past it; it hits with full force, bending the branches, testing the strength of the roots. The tree doesn’t avoid the storm, it endures it. It stands firm, absorbing the impact, and in doing so, it grows stronger. Its roots dig deeper into the earth, anchoring it more securely. Its trunk thickens, becoming more resilient to future storms. The tree grows through the storm, not around it.

This is exactly how we grow as individuals. When challenges arise, it’s natural to want to find a way around them, to avoid the discomfort, the pain, and the fear that come with facing adversity head on. But true growth happens when you choose to face those challenges, to step into the storm rather than sidestep it.

Consider a time in your life when you were faced with a difficult situation, a loss, a failure, a deep disappointment. Maybe you wanted to retreat, to find an easy way out. But when you decided to confront the challenge, to lean into the discomfort, that’s when you started to grow. You discovered new strengths, developed new skills, and came out on the other side not just intact, but stronger and more resilient.

Growing through the storm means embracing the struggle as part of your journey. It’s about recognizing that the discomfort you feel is not a sign of weakness, but a signal that you’re on the path to growth. Every challenge you face, every setback you endure, is an opportunity to deepen your roots and build your strength.

So when the storm hits, don’t shy away from it. Face it with courage. Stand firm, knowing that you’re not just surviving, you’re growing. You’re becoming more resilient, more powerful, and more prepared for whatever comes next. Remember, it’s the storms that shape the strongest trees, and it’s the challenges you face that shape the strongest versions of yourself. Grow through the storm, not around it, and you’ll emerge on the other side more capable and confident than ever before.

Anyone who's been in the same boat? Discussion

I’m 22 and I feel like I’m not in control of anything I do. I have been in college for 4 years now and have f*ckd up an equal number of years. Until this last exam period, something hit me, and I worked for a month straight, I passed all my exams. For the first time ever I succeeded because I worked for it and not because of some dumb luck. I still had to retake some exams from the fall semester, but I was feeling confident, until I was not… I began doubting myself again and sure enough I’ve fallen into my old habits. I’m switching between youtube, reels, chess, … and saying I’ll start studying soon, but just building up pressure on myself doing this. I’m just tired of doing this to myself, but I feel like I can’t control it. It’s like as if I’m always giving the reigns of my brain to some outsider who hates me and wants to see me fail and get miserable over and over again. I’m not the young kid anymore that still has time to learn by trial and error, I need to start applying myself and start working. Anyone has any advice on finally getting my life on the rails for good (or just getting rid of the person steering in the wrong direction)?

Text Every ADDICTION tries to fill a void: THIS is what you can do.

Ever catch yourself drowning in guilt after that YouTube binge, a trip down the TikTok rabbit hole, or blazing your way to peace? Maybe it's that late-night porn habit or stuffing your belly with fast food?

So why do we keep doing it when we know we'll feel like garbage afterward? It’s like we’re cursed, right?

Here's an idea for you to get better:

Grab something to write, you'll become a scientist for a moment.

# 1. Recognize the Addiction:

First, call out your vice. What’s that one habit that you keep running back to? Is it gaming, sugar, or that sweet dopamine hit from endless scrolling? Now, be a detective - when do you turn to it? What triggers that itch?

# 2. Reflect on Emotions:

What emotions do you feel right before engaging in the addiction? Is it stress, boredom, loneliness, anxiety, or sadness?

After falling for the addiction, how do you feel? Do you feel relief, numbness, or guilt? These can indicate what emotional void you're trying to fill.

# 3. Identify the Underlying Need:

Escapism: Are you trying to avoid a particular reality or responsibility?
Connection: Are you using the addiction to compensate for a lack of social or emotional connection?
Validation: Are you seeking approval, attention, or self-worth through this habit?
Control: Does this addiction give you a sense of control or predictability in an otherwise chaotic life?

If you’ve made it this far, you've taken quantum leaps toward improvement. Give yourself a break and be proud of this accomplishment. Recognition is often the hardest, but most important step.

Text My superhero origin story: From why me? to watch me shine!!

Ever wondered what happens when you recover from bullying? It’s like a superhero origin story, but with less spandex and more coffee. Let me paint you a picture of what it looks like when you finally emerge from the shadows and strut into life. I came across this quote “ Life is a process, not a problem. The question is only, have you prepared yourself for the process or not. “ - Sadhguru. This hit me like why the hell am I suffering like this.Slowly I started working on myself. Starting from my finances, health.Doing things that challenge me , writing gratitude journal ,meditating .The journey for the past seven months has been so enriching for me that I became more joyful human being.

Now I am in my prime and laughing at things that used to bother me and throwing shade at anyone who tries to dim my new shine. So, the process, it’s challenging, it’s hilarious, and it’s incredibly rewarding, as long as you can laugh at yourself along the way.

Keep shining, folks

discussion how do you comfort yourself when you don't feel alright?

I think I'm alright and capable to perform any tasks but it's this resilience and confidence that I'm lacking that seems to cause the problem. And I just keep myself feeling as if something is wrong with me. I don't know how can I improve my situation.

For some reason I guess I'm feeling this way is because I'm not doing the things I know I should instead I'm wasting time doing other things that isn't raising my confidence and happiness. Maybe my underlying cause is fear and scared to do. But there is almost 8 billion people in this world and millions of people must have had worst problems than I did. Yet they made themselves strong and did what they had to to get somewhere in life. I know I'm not special or talented. But I need to fix myself.

Tool Part 1, Transforming Setbacks into Stepping Stones for Growth

Failure is an inevitable part of your journey. It's woven into the fabric of life. You will face it, and when you do, it’s crucial to recognize it for what it truly is. It is so not a final verdict on your worth, but a stepping stone toward your growth.

Every time you fall short, you’re presented with a choice,, you can see it as defeat, or you can choose to reframe it, to see it as a powerful opportunity. This is where accountability comes in. You must hold yourself accountable, not just for your successes, but for how you respond to setbacks. When you stumble, don’t bury it under excuses or let it weigh you down with regret. Instead, stand up, look at what went wrong. Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this? How can I grow?” Every failure carries a lesson, a key to unlocking a better version of yourself. It’s through these lessons that you sharpen your skills, deepen your understanding, and build the resilience that will carry you forward. Failure is not the end of the road. It’s a detour that leads you to a path of improvement, a path where you become stronger, wiser, and more capable. So, when you fail. “And you will” don’t see it as a loss. See it as an essential part of your evolution. You’re not just picking yourself up. You’re rising with more knowledge, more strength, and more determination. Every time you dust yourself off, you’re proving to yourself that you’re not defined by your failures but by your capacity to learn, grow, and keep moving forward. This is how you transform failure from an obstacle into a powerful tool for self-improvement.

Text 7 HACKS for LESS STRESS

Have you noticed the incredible achievement by the president of El Salvador? This country used to be overrun by gang violence. But Nayib Bukele and his government courageously took action. In just five years, they've reduced homicides across the entire country to nearly 0%. Now, El Salvador is ready to flourish.

Similarly, every human being needs a basic level of peace in order to thrive and think clearly. Living with constant stress is like putting your body in permanent alertness. Not only does it have terrible effects on your immune system, but it also leaves you constantly in a bad mood and easily triggered by the smallest things.

# 7 Hacks for less Stress:

# 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐢𝐜

The Stoics - ancient Greek philosophers - believed it was possible to become "untriggerable." They taught themselves not to fall prey to conflicts, provocations, or their own ego. You can't control what happens to you, but you can control how you react and perceive it.

# 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭, 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬

Studies show that taking well-timed breaks can massively boost both your well-being and productivity. Physical movement during breaks is especially impactful. Unfortunately, scrolling through your feed or smoking won't do the job.

# 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭

Practicing compassion helps maintaining our sanity. At the end of the day we're all humans and go through the same struggles. We're all heartbroken, we're all traumatized and we're all scared. Keep this in mind the next time you're stressed out by somebody.

# 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲

Being constantly available puts a huge strain on your well-being. We're expected to respond immediately to everything. But what if controlling the pressure to reply actually made you feel lighter? Start by limiting availability on messengers to your job. Then move on to the rest. For truly urgent matters, people can always call. Enjoy the newfound quality of life.

# 𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬

The annoying nosiy door, autocorrect errors, unnecessary notifications, and pop-ups - every day we endure situations that wear down our patience. Eliminate them by making a list and start today. Stay realistic. Some things can't be eliminated (especially parents in law).

# 𝐓𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞

If you let your body react by getting agitated, it’s already too late. The trick is to remain calm and avoid reacting physically, which keeps your emotional response small. Here's the hack: Swallow the first three angers of the day. It sounds ridicoulous, but it works. This helps systematically reduce your stress triggers.

# 𝐔𝐩𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

Sometimes we find ourselves in a too stressful environment. Whether it’s a demanding job or challenging people. Being in a stressful environment every day (shout-out to customer service) is like playing Russian roulette with your mental health. Sooner or later, you’ll catch the bullet.

discussion Why is everything going downhill? How can I make my luck better/rebound from this?

I'm not really sure whcih subreddit to post this so I'll post it here. So I just feel like everything's going downhill for me. I was rejected from almost all the colleges I applied to, so i'm now attending a public college though I was top 5 in my school. I also got rejected to EVERY SINGLE summer program I applied to, even though I spent countless hours on the essays, had 1600 SAT, had very good extracurrciulars, won science fairs, and even had multiple people read my essays before submitting. I sacrificed hours of my sleep just to write my essays, and I did feel good about them; yet I still got rejected by every summer program and internship I applied to. I'm also in the process of switching college classes, and I wanted to switch into a class but it was already full. However, my friend told me yesterday that he got into the class, while I was still waitlisted, so I'm just wondering why my luck is so bad. Whenever I actually put effort into something, from cello competitions/auditions to college applications/summer programs, I can never receive the result that I had hoped for; everything just goes the other way. My luck used to be good when I was younger (I was among the only two high school students admitted to a prestigious writing camp), and everything seemed to be going well for me. So i'm just wondering why my luck has been so bad these few years and why everything is going downhill... I hate this life

Discussion Overwhelming Change

While I was at work, my boss triggered a mental breakdown as I was trying to manage my autism diagnosis, leading me to resign from my job. I've been pretending to be okay, but now I'm letting my autism and ADHD show more, which is a relief but also makes me feel weak. My ex broke up with me a year ago, and I'm moving to get away from both my ex and my parents. I don’t have anyone to help me move my furniture, and I’m avoiding my parents knowing where I live. My bank account is dwindling, though I have enough to last for at least another year. It feels like my life is falling apart. I’m trying to grow as a person, but it's incredibly tough.

Discussion I wasted almost 10 years living with family and being unemployed in my 20s.. Is it possible to have a life?

I got sucked into being in a cult in my 20s. After that I lost all my friends and my prospects for jobs. I fell into depression and hopelessness for ten years moving 8 hours back to my family. I stayed with them for almost ten years and barely worked in that time.

I was the life of the party before that. I had a lot of friends, was super social and women were attracted to me. Now I'm in my 30s and moved out again. I'm resentful, jobless, angry and clueless. I have no idea which direction to go in. When I was in my 20s I was attempting to become a dj. I was gigging and working at a gym before everything went down hill.

I realized I was nihilistic, angry, hopeless and depressed. I realized I wasn't as good of a person as maybe I thought. I'm not sure what to do anymore.

Growing up , I played a lot of sports, went out a lot with friends and spent a lot of time playing world of warvraft as well as computer games and other pc games. Always trying to improve socially as well.

Is it too late for me to achieve my dreams? Is it too late for me to become someone I'm proud of? Most of my friends have moved on now and they don't want anything to do with me. They think I'm a loser and some have even taken everything from me. What do I do ?

Could use some big motivation/uplifting Story

Figured this would be the right sub to request this, but I could definitely use some motivation right now, the last month+ has been real tough at times.

Basically it started with a big storm which really damaged my place. Short version of this, insurance and the restoration company that's being used by them have dragged this on so long that nothing's even close to being fixed almost 2 months later.

Then, my current job which I've had for a few years is starting to move part of their operations to a neighboring city which is more difficult for me to commute to, and the company doesn't want to pay for the commute (this among many things is part of my frustration with the company).

Eventually one of my uncles dies unexpectedly, I barely knew them so it didn't hit me much, but obviously my family would be way more impacted.

Back to work issues, my job is just getting more and more tiring (more mentally than anything) with more demands and no light at the end of the tunnel (promotion/pay wise).

A new job opened up recently that I'm applying for, but it's led to some heated debates within my family (the old school vs new school mentality when it comes to applying for jobs, as I've been ridiculed for not applying for the job the second I heard about it, acting like I should be sending it in, they'll stamp the date they get it on their desk and all that....ok boomers). My hold off is partially just me being anxious and not wanting to mess this up, especially since my manager knows the hiring person so they'll put in a good word for me once they find out I applied, but I haven't seen my manager since it was posted a day ago so I wanted to face to face let them know I'm applying and could use their help with the hiring person to recommend me.

If I don't get this job I really don't know what else I have going because my current job just stresses me out and frustrates me a lot, but my family life stresses me out and frustrates me just as much if not more at times (at least if I get stressed and frustrated at work I'm getting paid for it).

I don't know if I walked under a ladder, stepped on cracks, broke mirrors, opened umbrellas inside, but the last month+ has just been a giant wave of bad luck or bad stuff happening and it's obviously tougher to process when it comes at you like that. Definitely sucks because in my private life I'm a "happy go lucky" easy going person (mental health has always been an important thing for me) and now all this happens.

Dont know what kind of motivation, uplifting, virtual hugs I could use but I could use something.

Text 9 lessons from Alan Watts

Alan Watts has bridged the gap between Eastern philosophy and Western rationality. He explored the depths of consciousness & essence of being.

1. The Present Is All You Have: Watts emphasized living fully in the now, the only moment we ever truly possess. Embrace the present. Let go of past regrets and future anxieties. Life is a series of present moments to be experienced. All you ever have is now.

2. You Are the Universe Experiencing Itself: One of Watts' most profound teachings is the interconnectedness of all things. Recognize yourself as an expression of the universe. Feel connected to everything around you. Understand that you are both the observer and the observed.

3. The Illusion of Ego: Watts argued that the ego, our sense of separate self, is an illusion. Question the boundaries of your identity Recognize the ego as a social construct. Embrace the interconnectedness of life. Liberate yourself from the confines of individualism.

4. Life as Play: He likened life to a game or a dance, meant to be experienced fully, rather than a problem to be solved. Approach life with playfulness. Engage with the world creatively. Find joy in the process, not just the outcomes.

5. The Importance of Uncertainty: Watts taught that uncertainty is inherent to the nature of reality. Embrace the unknown. Recognize that certainty is an illusion. Find peace in the mystery of life. Accepting uncertainty can lead to a more adventurous and fulfilling life.

6. Letting Go of Control: Trying to control everything is futile and exhausting, according to Watts. Learn to let go. Trust the flow of life. Relinquish the need for control. This surrender opens the door to peace and contentment.

7. The Nature of Change: Change is the only constant, and Watts encouraged embracing it. Flow with change. See the beauty in impermanence. Adapt and grow with life’s ebbs and flows. Recognizing and accepting change is key to mental resilience and mental health.

8. The Unity of Opposites: Watts explored the concept that opposites are fundamentally interconnected. Understand that opposites define each other. See the harmony in duality. Appreciate the balance of life. Everything is a component of a bigger system.

9. Finding Who You Really Are: The journey to self-discovery was central to Watts' teachings. Ask yourself who you are. Explore your inner depths. Realize your connection to the universe. Self-discovery leads to a profound sense of peace and belonging.
