A huge problem with people is that they think companies and profits are everything. | My encounter with a capitalist.
https://ibb.co/RbX2pHd
While discussing things in the context of India and its government enterprises, people tend to forget that not everything that government runs is to make profit and become a Fortune 500 company. While discussing with a Redditor, I realised that the way of thinking of a lot of people in this country starts with the profits and gains a company is making. They ignore a very important point in the process, the people.
They forget that it is the people who should be at the centre and not some company. Profits and everything is fine, but not at the expense of the exploitation of the common people. In the context of BSNL, the fellow's point is to privatise it so it can do better in the market. Which is a valid point from the perspective of a person who want the company to earn profits, but is BSNL only there to earn profits for the government. This is the point the buddy capitalists forget while discussing government undertakings and entities.
Please share your point of view.

The discourse surrounding therevolutnarygirl (isha) and rejaz
So it has been many weeks since Isha (therevolutnarygirl) and Rejaz has been infuriating and frankly disgusting. We have seen people brand this as "love jihad" or a "Maoist" conspires like this and it has been disgusting to say the least. So if you are still somewhat unaware about the arrest of Isha and rejaz both of them were arrested in Nagpur for "trying to conspire against the Indian government" and Rejaz (being a journalist who spoke against the hindutva government) was charged with UAPA and Isha is still in arrest. Now the discourse surrounding this has been absolutely disgusting. Hindutvavadi goons have started infiltrated every ware and started speeding lies about both of them. Especially in insta amd Reddit.

Genuine question about Jinnah
So I'm a muslim fag, chilling in Mumbai (or Bombay, for the old timers : P) and currently reading up on history, and I've got to ask.
WHAT WAS THIS DUMBASS THINKING.
Seriously, if India's muslim population just presented a united front we would be an enourmously powerful political player in Asia, but now we (the muslims of India), have essentially been left to rot at the hands of the very Hindu majority Jinnah claimed he was fighting back against !
Anyways I decided to further investigate the leadup to Partition and the violence surrounding it, and it turns out that Jinnah and the Muslim League deliberately either caused or helped precipitate the violence surrounding it so that the Partition and creation of Pakistan would 100% happen.
Which really makes me wonder, why do Pakistanis and Musanghis constantly pretend that Jinnah was some great secular leader when he was really just a turncoat British pig fucker who changed skins like a chameleon depending on who he was talking to ?
Did that one speech he gave after independence really succesfully brainwash people into thinking he wasn't some kind of communal bigot ?
This is where my own fears and dissapointments in India lie, because while Hindutva and Hindu nationalism that plague us today didn't originate with Jinnah, they were most certainly bolstered by his own ideals.
It just feels so fucking scary to me to open the news and just read a story about a muslim getting lynched somewhere and thinking, "Fuck, that could have been me".
My ancestors have lived in India for centuries, my family comes from such a beautiful collection of cultures and beautiful tapestries of memoria from a time long forgotten. One of my family members fought right alongside his Hindu brothers in the 1857 Revolt, and one of my great uncles tried to cause an armed uprising and was shot for it. We've bled for this country over generations, but today we're spat on wherever we go.
Whatver back to Jinnah's braindamaged idealogy that ruined the reputation of my community forever.
This is my final thought I suppose, but I've noticed a shocking parallel, this time with Zionism.
Both Zionism and Muslim Nationalist idealogies lay themselves squarely on laying claim to land that fundamentally doesn't belong to them, both idealogies caused massive partitions that resulted in the deaths of millions, both idealogies caused genocide on a scale almost unimaginable in human history, both of them started at roundabout the same time, both of them appropriated a language that doesn't belong to them (Urdu for Musanghi's, Hebrew for Zionists), both are post colonial constructs that have virtually no right to exist and both have succesfully ethinically cleansed entire populations from land that they lived on for thousands of years.
And throughout all of this, I kept asking myself, why ?
Because I genuinely don't know what Jinnah gained by all of this, because objectively speaking he failed at every single goal he sought to accomplish, well except for the genocide of course.
And now I'm seeing the same pattern play out with Hindutva.
I don't want to leave the country my ancestors died liberating.

How to join socialist organisations?
Getting organised is the only way to further our cause. Reading socialist theory is cool and all, but real change can only happen by joining a local socialist organisation, and organising the masses, by community service and standing up for working class concerns.
So how to do that in major cities, like Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai?

Harry Potter's popularity amongst the savarnas
I was never a huge fan of the books or the movies growing up but I got into it because everyone else was. And I revisited them again now and the underlying messaging is the fucking worst. I'm only gonna talk about broad strokes and the themes and not an in-depth analysis.
There's this arbitrary house system (kinda like caste) and one house is EVIL. Segregation of living and eating spaces. Only allowed to mingle in classes or during quidditch. There's so much subtext about ingroup and outgroup throughout the texts. First it's the houses, then it's the muggles, pure bloods and half bloods. Then there's the house elves who are slaves and Hermione getting ridiculed because she wants to help them out of slavery! Explanation is "the slaves want to be slaves"! Wtf!
The stratification of the society is justified while voldemort's actions are seen as bad for upholding the same faschie structures! Like why, it doesn't even make sense in universe. If anything it would make him more popular than anything else. But jk Rowling (may she rest in piss) has tried making voldemort cartoonishly evil so that you don't question the rest of the hierarchical systems as bad. And in the end the characters uphold the said hierarchy anyway.
No other young adult franchises have gotten this popular amongst Indians (Percy Jackson, hunger games were popular but not even 1/10th of cult following of HP). It doesn't help that these books are also insanely popular and more people are bound to find them and indulge in them.
These books have been extremely popular amongst Indians for more than a decade and I feel like these hierarchical systems and their preservation is one of the reasons it's so popular amongst Indians (esp savarnas). Maybe these hierachies give them a sense of familiarity.
I'm not saying this is the only reason why people like them (the world building is pretty cool, I used to like it too) but this could be one of the reasons why people love it so much. This applies to global HP fandom, not just savarnas but there's no critical reading of these texts and any criticism is seen as redundant or "ruining the escapist fantasy" and it just doesn't sit right tbh.
Everything is politics, if someone thinks otherwise it probably means they're not the ones affected by the said politics
