It's really improved my memory and helped me focus. Reading back I can easily picture the day and any events are noted, keeping track of things is much easier, and it's nice to read, like a story about yourself. Plus days when I did nothing motivate me to spend my time more wisely.

LPT: Stop crappy gift giving
This xmas, avoid giving someone a crappy gift that will just be a waste of money for you and an awkward experience for the receiver.
When you give a gift to someone, whether it's for xmas, bday, etc.

Remember that it's about THEM, not you. Too many people give the wrong gift and then are pissed off that the receiver didn't act happy enough. It's not about you or your happiness. It's about theirs. The receiver should never have to feel guilty that they didn't like your shitty gift. Don't give shitty gifts and this won't happen in the first place.
If you want to give a great gift, get to really know the person and personalize the gift to match their particular interests or personality. The best gift I've ever gotten was 2 Calvin & Hobbes books. Not big. Not expensive. But it's my best gift memory ever. Why? Because it wasn't generic like clothes, jewelry, etc. And it wasn't obvious. She didn't just take me to my favorite restaurant for dinner. She paid attention and noticed that I loved the strip, so she got me the collector's books. Not generic, not obvious, personalized to my taste. Best gift ever.
If you don't know someone well enough to do that, you can still avoid giving a shitty gift by simply making sure you don't give them the "wrong" thing. Nothing more disappointing to me than getting clothes that isn't to my taste or that I would never wear. Just because someone likes a certain brand, doesn't mean they like everything from that brand. Just because I like a certain style, doesn't mean I will like what YOU think fits under that style. If you buy clothes, make sure it's the specific thing the person wants, not something "similar". Otherwise, stay away from clothes. And jewelry. And anything in the fashion category.
Don't buy something that they would normally buy for themselves anyway. If I like Taco Bell and I go there regularly, getting me a Taco Bell gift card is not a good gift. There's nothing special about it. Get me a gift certificate for (or take me to) Ruth Chris steak house because I can't afford to go there normally even though I want to. THAT is a treat.
Unless it's something you KNOW the receiver will appreciate, don't give gift cards, period. Just give cash if you don't know what to give. Gift cards are the worst gifts ever. It's so much worse than cash because sometimes they expire AND I'm limited to spending x amount in one particular place of your choosing, not mine. Fuck gift cards.
If you really don't know what to go with, at all, go with a nice box of chocolates. You'll rarely go wrong with chocolate. Or maybe rethink why you're even giving this person a gift in the first place if you know literally nothing about them.

LPT: Before traveling to a different country where you don’t speak the language, take pictures of lots of things you might need (eg. a tire pump, a crescent wrench, a battery, socks, etc.)
You might be able to look these things up, or you might not. Internet access can be iffy. It’s easier to pull up a photo on your phone than to try to translate what you’re looking for.

LPT: Flip your rear view down to avoid bright lights.
Yeah, yeah.. we all had that obnoxious jeep rides our a***s home on the 10 last Sunday until we moved out of the way.
And yeah, new cars have brighter headlights even if you don’t lift your truck or get upgrades.
Your rear view mirror has a little tab on the bottom of it that, when flipped, directs the light away from your eyes while still allowing you to see behind you.
This is because headlights have always been annoying and distracting.

LPT Don't Repeat Yourself Immediately When Someone Says "What"
When you say something to someone and they immediately respond with "what", wait a few seconds before repeating yourself. Their brains will often times process the message in that time and they simply prematurely jumped to saying "what".

It’s annoying to constantly be bombarded with ads in your inbox, especially when you’re able to turn this feature off.
Open gmail. Go to settings. Open inbox customizations. Open inbox categories. You now have access to toggle the options on and off for social and promotions, leaving you to only receive your regular emails.

LPT: Free internet for an hour on United and Delta
Figured I would share a little trick I realized. Delta and United (could be others) offer 1 hour of free wifi for TMobile employees. I used to travel often and used this all the time. Great little perk. When I changed services I put my friends number in who has TMobile service, and it works every time. I’m currently on a plane using this little hack.

Due to Chrome's RAM hunger and some data privacy concerns, I finally made the decision to switch to Firefox, but I was dreading having to reconfigure another application. I've been pleasantly surprised to find that Firefox did all that for me.

LPT Make it very clear to your manager/supervisor how much time you spend on your tasks/projects, if you undersell it you’ll screw over yourself and your successors
ESPECIALLY if you’re salaried and working extra hours to get things done, tell your manager. My predecessor in my role left over two years ago and all of my coworkers knew she worked ALL hours of the day except my boss, who they said she deliberately kept it from because she “felt bad”.
My boss still acts confused when I say I cannot get certain things done within 40 hours and ask her to tell me which tasks to prioritize, because her old employee never told her how much she was working to get everything completed.
So the next time you don’t want to impose, just remember you’re hurting other people in the long-run by not saying anything.
Plus, if they think you’re getting things done faster they’ll just give you more work anyway.

LPT- Difficult/uncomfortable questions should be handled, not answered
Obviously some questions you're faced with will require a clear cut, straight answer which is unavoidable and okay
But, I've found that most, if not all, uncomfortable questions can be managed
My most common technique of handling these questions is to either respond with another question which then puts the need for answers on the other person or to answer without answering if you don't want to come across as rude
Simple example of answering without answering:
'Hey, how much do you get paid'
'Not nearly enough haha'
In the example, you have not only avoided the question without coming across as rude, but have satisfied the person's question subconsciously.
I've never even had someone push for a proper answer when using this technique

LPT: When starting the "happy birthday" song, remember the lowest note of the entire song is the first note. Start low and you won't have people struggling to hit the higher notes.
Too many times I've been at parties and someone starts the song way too high. This has helped me by remembering to start low.

LPT: Make your own hot chocolate mix
It’s hot chocolate season, and my wife drinks it constantly. Rather than buying the pre-made packets, it’s very easy to do on your own. I don’t really even use any exact measurements.
1. Heat up a mug of milk to almost boiling; ~2.5 mins in microwave
2. Add a heaping spoonful of cocoa (found in baking aisle, I use Nestle Toll House)
3. Add 2 heaping spoonfuls of powdered sugar
4. Stir and you’re done
It’s about as much effort as making the packets, much more cost effective, and you can play with the ratio to make it just how you like it. You can also experiment with additions like sea salt, peppermint, etc. You can even pre make a big batch with the above rough ratio.

LPT Affiliate marketers are the internet's telemarketer salesmen, be aware of them.
You probably have seen these videos of people talking about a product and how they use it in an organic and natural way saying they got it out of need and then saying how it was a great surprise and a good purchase... Until you realise they have affiliate links in their bio or video description.
It's a new type of ad designed to copy the real review videos that are trustworthy that never had any financial incentive.
With affiliate links.. the person making the video will get a percentage for every purchase. So they are automatically biased and will try to convince you this isn't something they got sent by a reseller with a percentage benefit agreement if the product sells.
Pretty much flags the review as either bullshit or it will never honestly point out the flaws.
It's the new cheap way for shit products to get seen now, and those ads are everywhere if you pay attention.
What good product really needs an ad in the first place? Yeah exactly. Pretty much none. You will find honest reviews elsewhere.
A good product doesn't need a person with charisma to lie to you to be successful.
( Of course, there are affiliate marketers and content producers you can trust if you've known them for a long time and their content seem honest that's for you decide, but the bad ones are everywhere now )

LPT Request: How do you find trade clients without barter exchanges?
With the economic situation, I want to be flexible in my business transactions, with the ability to have both trade clients in addition to cash clients
Want to do this without having to jump through hoops of joining barter exchanges, membership fees, transaction fees, etc.
Just want to deal directly with people open to trading goods/services

LPT: Save space and potentially money by crushing your empty bottles and sealing them.
This may seem obvious to some but if you take your empty bottles and crush them from the bottom upwards to the top when they're empty, then put the cap back on and seal it, it causes a the air pressure outside the bottle to keep the bottle in that crushed state indefinitely, thereby saving space if it ever ends up in a landfill or just saves space in the recycling bin for other items.
If you are in a situation like we are in this house, our bin company charges €10 per bin lift, so if all of our bottles were just laying around they would take a fair amount of room, and every bottle like that is just filled with useless air, but what i do is i fold the bottom of the bottle then keep rolling/folding all the way to the top then place the cap back on, it creates a slight vacuum versus the air outside the bottle so the bottle now only take up about 1/8th of the room it initially did and now we have more room in our recycling bin for other things, thereby saving us money.
Hope this tip might help someone. Money is tight these days with the recession and all, so we're trying to save money where we can and this is my little money saver.
