LPT: When your sleep position is uncomfy, check to not rest your shoulders on your pillow
Might sound weird, but often when I struggle to find a comfotable sleeping position, I realize that my shoulders rest on my pillow. I then move the pillow so that only my head rests there - boom, instant confortable.

LPT: motivation to work out more consistently
Lately I’ve been choosing a Netflix series or podcast that I really like and ONLY listening to it when I’m in the gym. It’s helped me to show up there more consistently… not because I want to… but because I want to watch the next episode. I start off every workout walking uphill on the treadmill watching my show. I know it seems kind of lame, but it’s helped me a lot so I thought maybe it could help others too. :)

I know it said it as a joke but it works. The holidays create a lot of stress but that can make them good times to trial run new habits and goals of yours. It let's you have stuff figured out by news years time and psychologically gets you out of the mindset that new years resolutions are ok to drop, because it's not even new years yet.

LPT: Why you should always measure twice
The saying “measure twice, cut once” is a rule for woodworking that is meant to avoid mistakes and waste. But it is really a warning for any serious decision making to double-check everything before making a commitment. We have all heard the advice, “You should think twice about that.” But how often do we actually do so?
Why are so many smart people not smart enough to realize what they don’t know? Probably because they want to be known as the “smartest” or the “fastest” to make a judgement.
But situations in which there is no second measurement are problematic since these constructs often entail Iceberg Risk. As we know, 90% of an iceberg is underwater and not visible. Learn to identify situations that look great on the surface but do not hold up to that second measurement since this is where your dreams will likely hit that iceberg.

LPT- if you have issues listening to audios, turn up the speed to 1.25x or 1.5x
I always had issues with listening to podcasts and audiobooks, to recorded lectures, YouTube videos, etc. I saw a post recently that suggested turning the play speed up slightly, and I swear it works! I turn videos to 1.5x, and audio-only to 1.25x, and suddenly I can pay attention and keep with it, and absorb info better.
So if you listen to audios, try to change the play speed.

LPT: When writing dates, never write the month as a number. Use the three letter abbreviation instead.
The biggest reason for this is that some countries put the month first and others put it second. So 3/2/2023 is Mar 2 in some places but Feb 3 in other places. It's clearer to write Mar 2, 2023 instead.
Also, if you leave off the year, dates like 2/3 or 1/2 might be confused for fractions ("two thirds" or "one half") depending on the date.
EDIT: yes, there are "standards" established by the ISO or conventions that some countries follow and one very large country doesn't follow. But if you aren't sure who will be reading the date or what convention they follow and you want to be sure everyone will read it correctly, use the three letter abbreviation.
Even if you know who will be reading the date, it's still a good habit to get into.

LPT: Add a paper towel to pre-packaged salad mix to extend the shelf life.
Most pre-packaged salad mixes only last about 5 days in the fridge after opening. That’s because moisture and condensation builds up inside the packages of Spring Mix, Spinach, 50/50, etc. salads and makes the leaves rot much quicker.
After opening a bag or box, use a clean paper towel to wipe up any condensation on the inside walls or on the salad leaves themselves. Also remove any pieces that have begun to rot or wilt.
Finally, throw a fresh dry paper towel on top of the remaining salad mix before refrigerating to act as a moisture absorber. Repeat this every time you use the salad mix and it will extend the shelf life from 1 week to 2 or even 3.

LPT: If you are a very quiet person who wants to talk more, the advice "people only like to talk about themselves, just listen and ask questions" may not be the best for you.
Listening is certainly a key component of becoming great at socializing, but people who are less talkative are at risk of misinterpreting this piece of advice. It can lead to a lot of pitfalls that are dangerous for someone who is trying to speak more.
The problem with this advice is that many people will interpret it as saying that it’s good to be passive, to step back and only let the other person speak. This interpretation is equal parts tempting and dangerous for people who already lean toward passivity. It allows them to avoid working on their fundamental flaws.
the whole asking questions is only helpful to an extent but it can lead you into a dead end, especially when faced with another less chatty person. Not everyone likes talking about themselves all the time. Whoever coined that statement contradicted themselves big time, since it completely overlooks it's target audience, who clearly don't like talking about themselves either, hence why trying to deflect conversational responsibility.
When somebody asks you a question you still have to decide how you’re going to answer. For example, your friend asks you what you thought about the new Thor movie. One way of answering this question could be “I liked it, how about you?” If you’re in the “good listener” mindset, this might seem like the proper way to respond since you are allowing the other person to talk more. However, you’re more likely to come off as uninterested and unwilling to state your opinion.
A better response would be to tell your friend a few things that you liked and/or disliked about the movie. Not only will you show that you are a person who is able to make up your mind about things, you’ll also be providing your friend with a few “hooks” to continue the conversation from.
Developing a healthy social life involves more than just asking questions. While questions can be a good starting point for conversations, it's important to engage in various forms of communication. You need to use actively listening, showing empathy, sharing personal experiences, and participating in different social activities are all essential for building meaningful friendships. By showing genuine interest in others, being kind and exploring a range of social interactions, individuals can create a more vibrant and fulfilling social life. It's about developing well-rounded communication skills and embracing a variety of ways to connect with others.
"People only like to talk about themselves" is a phrase that is true in very general terms, but it is not the best to see all interactions that way. Not all people are the same, nor are all contexts the same, Not all relationships are the same type. There are people who enjoy listening to others, there are contexts that invite them to talk about various topics, there are relationships that are based on the mutual exchange of information. course people like to be heard, but people also tend to appreciate authenticity and even a bit of vulnerability during conversation. Also, some people are not comfortable talking about themselves endlessly, but want you to tell them your own story, talk about yourself for a while and then switch back. The goal should be to find a common ground.
The conversation should be enjoyable for both parties not just the other person and I'm sure just being this super listener only asking questions because you're not good at talking isn't going to make most people happy with their social life in the long run.
TL;DR: being a good listener is important, but it's often counterproductive when trying to speak more. Less talkative people often need to focus on the opposite: In conversation there is also a duty to speak, sometimes even when nobody has asked for it. Those who speak little must learn to express themselves, give their opinion and share their experiences. We must not fall into passivity, nor into the trap of only asking
LPT: Schedule Meetings With Your Spouse Instead of Arguing
Also could apply to friends, roommates, family, anyone you have issues with you are trying to work on.
If you have a recurring issue in your marriage, it's easy to only talk about it when it comes up. Who wants to bring up bad things when things are good? But the end result is, you only talk about a problem when at least one of you is already upset, and it rapidly becomes an argument where both are too upset to approach the issue reasonably.
Instead, plan a weekly check in. "Every Wednesday night over dinner we'll talk about how X went this week." It's great. You both come to the conversation coolly, ready to have a productive conversation. And during the rest of the week, you probably avoid other arguments because instead of fighting in the moment, you can just make a note to talk about it "at the meeting".
Plus, just both of you showing up is a great way to show each other that you take the problem seriously and want to find a solution.

LPT for talking to / hitting on someone you have no initial reason too?
Was at a bar last night and saw a very pretty girl, I thought our eyes met a few times, could be my mistake or could be that I was looking at her and she "caught me".
Bar closed shortly after and everybody went home so I ended up leaving with my friends and she will most likely never be seen again. This happened everyone and a while and would love a LPT for getting the courage / confidence or someway to be able to more easily approach / strike up a conversation.

LPT: Learn to roast a whole chicken.
Assuming you eat meat, duh.

1. It's Cheap: One whole chicken creates 4 large portions (ex. Leg + thigh) of meat or 6 medium ones (ex Thigh + wing). In my area, any day of the year I can pick up a whole chicken for $10-14, placing it at \~$3 per large serving. Pair with $3 veggies and you have a good meal for $6.
2. It's Even Cheaper: Once you've done Step 1, you take all the bones and anything you didn't eat, throw it in a pot with an onion & water for 6 hours and you get a great stock for just about anything. It's even a decent light meal on it's own, although most will want at least some veggies to round it out as a meal. So on top of the original meals you're getting \~$8 of stock
3. It's Healthy: Chicken is one of the healthiest proteins, definitely better Beef, most Pork, and most 'fake meats'. You can get a bit better with Soy and what not but chicken is a very solid, good, protein.
4. It's Versatile: Chicken by itself is semi-bland, but really bumps up whatever you pair it with. Consider it the "dipping chip of the meats", it tastes fine but when you get a good dip the wombo combo blows your mind. Pick any style of food you want and google "<style of food> roasted chicken" and you'll find a hundred recipes.
5. It's Easy (sorta): Roasting a whole chicken is right on the boundary of beginner and intermediate level cooking, it's really not too hard but there are a handful of tricks you need to learn to really get a good result, if you're brand new to cooking you'll probably have to toss a 1 or 2 before you get the hang of it. On the flip side if you consider yourself a good cook, there are hundreds of variations to really take it to the next level.
6. It's low effort: Separating this from it's easy (meaning low barrier to learn) and low effort (easy to repeat). Once you get the hang of it, it takes \~10 minutes to prep, \~5 seconds to throw it in the oven, and \~5 minutes to divide and serve. Creates lots of left overs for those that want to meal prep.
7. It's Flashy: A nice spatchcocked chicken looks beautiful, and makes the house smell yummy. Want to impress a certain someone? Invite them over for a dinner, prep the chicken the night before and toss it in the oven \~45 minutes before meal time. 0 stress or prep the day off, you can give them your full attention and look effortlessly amazing.
My template is this
1. Buy whole chicken (i.e. defeathered, gutted, etc. but the majority of meat & bones remain in tact)
2. Remove spinal cord with chef scissors (\~$15)
3. Flip skin side up, lay flat, fold wings under breasts (they cook too fast)
4. Salt & pepper entire skin side
5. Place on rack, on top of pan, inside fridge. No covering, open air in the fridge. Wait 1-24 hours
6. Take whatever herbs, peppers, etc. I want and mix with butter. Separate skin from meat with fingers and smush the butter inside.
7. Place thermometer (\~$5) in breast
8. Throw in oven at \~400 degrees for \~45 minutes, but check thermometer every \~5 minutes.
9. Take out and rest \~20 minutes
10. Serve, save the rest.

LPT: If you're a first time cat or dog owner, keep athlete's foot cream handy. It's a useful stopgap measure against ringworm until you can get the animal to a vet.
I learned this from my vet a while back. I've had pets before, but this was my first time owning a kitten. He had a mild case of ringworm, and the doctor said to use generic athlete's foot cream to slow the spread. However, it is NOT a substitute for a prescription anti-fungal medication, which is what the pet will ultimately need.

LPT: If you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet!
When considering pet ownership, be aware that at some point in the animal's life, there's a good chance the animal will have an unexpected medical emergency that will cost you several hundred to several thousand dollars, in addition to the cost of annual checkups, grooming, and vaccinations. If you aren't able to budget for that eventuality, don't get the pet.
This does not mean you can't be a good pet owner unless you are rich. Pets can cost a lot of money, often in unexpected ways. Account for that in your decision to get one. It is a terrible feeling to be in the position of choosing between paying the bills or letting a beloved member of your family die of a treatable issue.
And if you can't afford basic vet care, you shouldn't have a pet. It is 100% dependent on you for it's medical needs, and as it's owner you have an obligation to take care of the animal's health, just as you have an obligation to feed it and give it a loving environment.

LPT: During an argument, if somebody brings up numbers to support their argument, don't ask them for the source.
It's tempting to make them prove their evidence, but that could actually backfire on you. By asking them for a source, you are basically forcing them to gain credibility. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why that could backfire on you. Instead, you look up their numbers yourself to see if they were lying. Chances are, they weren't lying. So now look for evidence to refute their argument and bring up your evidence then. If you make them present a source, you're strengthening their argument and thus decreasing your chance of winning the argument.

LPT Don't buy anything with "set" or "gift" in the name as a gift, you can always get something better (often for less)
The main target of those products are people wanting to make a gift about something they know nothing about for people who do and won't complain out of courtesy. It's mostly (overpriced) crap, mass produced with the lowest possible standards and pretty-packaged to appeal potential buyers.
I would especially like to stress about few things:
Knives sets. Useless. For anyone. A decent cook mostly uses 1-3 knives for 99% of the jobs, they already have something way better, paid less (good knives go from as low as 20€/$ each) and fitting their needs.
Cocktail sets: low quality metal that barely fits, tools that will soon break, miscellanea that will never be used
Anything about art, like colors / pencils sets: imagine having 60 pencils, none of which works well enough to be used. The quality ranges dramatically and on top of that even different good products fits different needs and may not be a goo choice
Spirits/liqueurs. Do I really need to tell you why a bottle that has "gift" in the description won't make a good gift for someone passionate about it?
Feel free to add exceptions or other areas where one should avoid even when buying for themselves. Let's end the tradition of buying useless stuff that will please no one just for the sake of it.
