LPT - how to save your dryer

LPT

Wash your dryer lint screen with a little bit of dish soap (nothing with lotion or oils) and warm water. Run water over it until it runs clear and straight through the mesh.

It will save your dryer in so many ways!!

You can tell you need to wash it I f you pull out the dryer lint screen and, while running it under water, see the water not flow through the mesh easily (it might pill on top). Detergent, dryer sheets, wool, fabric softener and just lint build up an invisible sheen over time. This makes for a dangerous (potentially flammable) situation and also will ruin your dryer.

Wash it every now and then and you’ll save quite a bit of money in repairs and replacement

LPT younger brother always on phone

My younger brother is 21 is always on his phone, never leaves his room, doesn’t workout at all, he is also very antisocial. I’m very close to him and try to do as much as I can with him and include him things but he doesn’t want to do anything unless I initiate it. The problem is he doesn’t think he has a problem. I asked him if he wanted to workout with me and he said no. I’m just worried he is wasting his life away on the phone or has an addiction to his phone. I don’t want to always nag him either as it might strain our friendship. Any advice from anyone in a similar situation

LPT: Give the animal lover in your life a gift card this holiday season

Pet food and toys are incredibly expensive right now. A large bag of dog food averages about $70. Everyone appreciates gift cards for things they can actually use. Local pet stores are struggling due to online shopping. Gifting a gift card to your local pet store is a win win! As someone who works at one, every year we have customers say a gift card to our store was one of their best presents.

LPT: if you like to make eggs for breakfast every morning, get a dedicated egg pan.

We all know that feeling of cooking eggs on a brand new nonstick skillet, where they just slide right out with no sticking whatsoever. If you want to keep that going for as long as possible, get a new pan and reserve it just for eggs. The reason this works, apart from less overall use on that pan, is that cooking eggs is usually a lower-heat operation for most preparations. One of the things that really kills the coating on your nonstick pans is getting them too hot, which can happen pretty quickly if you’re using the pan for a lot of every day cooking. My egg skillets can keep that new nonstick feeling for months, as long as I don’t cook anything else in them. Once the coating wears out too much for good consistent eggs, they’re usually still good for a lot of other uses; so I usually get a new egg pan and keep the old one in the rotation for fish, reheating leftovers, etc.

I personally have found success with Tramontina brand nonstick pans, I like the 10 inch one for my 3-4 egg omelettes.

edit: if you're jumping in here to say "just get a cast iron lol" yes I have one, and I use it for all kinds of things! but scrambled eggs or omelettes are simply better in a non-stick pan.

LPT: Use the over/under method to store extension cords and prevent tangles.

Over-Under Coil Method:

Start with an Overhand Knot:

Hold one end of the extension cord in your hand.
Create an overhand knot by forming a loop with the cord.

Alternate Over and Under Wraps:

Start coiling the cord, alternating between over and under wraps.
If the first loop is over the cord, the next should go under, and so on.

Maintain Tension:

Keep slight tension on the cord as you coil to prevent kinks and tangles.

Create a Bundle:

Once the entire cord is coiled, secure the bundle by tying it off with a twist tie, Velcro strap, or a purpose-built cord organizer.

As someone who deals with cords daily, this tip changed my life and hopefully it will change yours for the better.

It was mostly about the thought and honestly, it was probably a waste of everyone's money. This year, we agreed no gifts for anyone 21 and over. Instead we'll be collecting money for charity. We will have a Rummikub^® tournament and the winner will get to select a charitable organization to donate the entire sum.

LPT: If you've lost a lot of weight but have shirts or sweaters, that no longer fit you can shrink many of them by washing them in super hot water and then drying at very high temps.

I lost about 80 pounds and most of my shirts and sweaters were extra large. I washed and dried them at the highest temps available and, depending on the fabric, the process shrunk them down. Cotton items the most and required only one round to get them down to medium or large. Polyester items which tend not to shrink much at all, were still affected by the high temps, but required multiple rounds.

LPT: A Brutally Honest Guide to Human Improvement

1. You're Not Special, and That's Okay

Let's get real, folks. In a world of over 7 billion people, the chances of you being the chosen one are slim to none. Embrace your mediocrity, acknowledge your flaws, and understand that the world owes you nothing. Once you drop the entitlement, you'll find the freedom to work for what you want.

2. Failure is Your Best Friend

Guess what? You're going to fail. A lot. It's not a matter of 'if,' but 'when.' Instead of crying about it, learn from your failures. Each stumble is a lesson, and if you're not failing, you're probably not trying hard enough. So, get comfortable with the taste of defeat because success is often just a few failures away.

3. The Power of Uncomfortable Truths

Sugarcoating won't get you anywhere. Face the harsh truths about yourself, your situation, and the world around you. Are you lazy? Procrastinating? Playing the victim card? Own up to it. Only by acknowledging your shortcomings can you start the journey towards improvement.

4. You Can't Read Your Way to Success

Sure, reading is great, and knowledge is power, but let's not kid ourselves. Reading alone won't transform you into a success story. It's what you do with that knowledge that matters. Take action, apply what you've learned, and stop using books as a shield against the real world.

5. Your Dreams Won't Work Unless You Do

Dreaming big is fantastic, but dreams without action are just that—dreams. You won't achieve anything by sitting on your couch, daydreaming about success. Get up, hustle, and put in the work. Success is earned, not given.

6. Comfort is the Enemy of Progress

If you're cozy, you're probably not growing. Challenge yourself, step out of your comfort zone, and embrace the discomfort of growth. You won't find success in the warm embrace of familiarity. Take risks, face challenges head-on, and watch yourself evolve.

7. Time is Your Most Valuable Asset

Stop wasting time. Procrastination is the silent killer of dreams. Every moment you spend scrolling mindlessly through social media is a moment you're not investing in yourself. Be ruthless with your time management. Every second wasted is a step away from your goals.

Conclusion: Tough Love for a Tough World

LPT: Avoid walls of text when posting and add line breaks and paragraphs for clarity. This will make it easier for readers to read and understand your writing.

Add line breaks and paragraphs when you write. When it’s just a massive block of text, it’s hard for people to follow what you’re saying. Without those breaks, the flow gets lost, and it’s like trying to navigate a maze.

You may have extremely valid points, but a lot of readers (especially on mobile) will skip your post/comment, because there’s no easy way to parse what point you’re trying to make.

Make it easy on your readers – break it up a bit, and your point will come across much clearer.

LPT for new drivers in winter: stock your car with what you’ll need, and other tips

It seems obvious to many of us who have been driving for years. But there’s a lot that new drivers may not think of.

Ice scrapers: definitely get one of those. The kind with raised bumps on the backside are wonderful! Not only does the “spatula side” scrape ice (duh!), but the raised bits on the back help to score ice that may be a little bit thicker and harder to get off.

Keep spare gloves in your car, as well as a blanket. Just in case.

Check your tire pressure! Cold-weather will lower the air pressure in your tires. So keep an eye on it.

And, of course, black ice. It is not a myth, it does exist. If it’s below, or even close to freezing, any apparent wet spot on the road might be ice, so avoid it if you can, focus if you can’t.

Lastly, and most importantly, if you don’t feel safe driving, don’t drive if you have the option.

LifeProTips

LPT: If a person you know is struggling because of bad decisions and they won't listen to your advice, you can still help by being there for them

Now this advice isn't new because it's recommended for people with emotional disorders, you can't logically make a person with anxiety just get over their thoughts so giving them company and silently practicing shared hobbies with them (without having to discuss anything) can tremendously help them

The problem is when their issues manifest themselves as logically or morally bad decisions, that's when people start treating them with less compassion because their suffering seems largely deserved. The people around them would tell them how to solve their problems exactly but they don't follow through on anything given to them. This is a problem that therapists run into a lot and I learned how they deal with this seemingly impossible social scenario

I was reading a book from a therapist who discussed how he handled a patient who was actively staying in a very toxic relationship. The woman was having affairs with a married doctor with two children. She liked him for all the wrong reasons and thought that by continuing to buy into his empty promises that he would move on to marry her instead.

I immediately rolled my eyes because this is such a classic homewrecker delusion. I was surprised that the therapist didn't immediately rip on this problem as being the source of her suffering. Instead he worked on treating her with compassion and understanding so she could feel comfortable with venting, gradually she found the self esteem to walk away from it and started making healthier dating choices. The relationship was only the tip of the iceberg. We should be even kinder to those have self inflicted issues because they get no compassion and are bound to keep hurting themselves

Edit: Yes I know it's super nerve boiling to deal with this, therapists get paid for reasons. You shouldn't feel guilt tripped or obligated to put up with other people's shit especially if you have enough already. I reserve this advice for people who are otherwise really fun to be with even though they make bad decisions. I'm trying this with my mother who has a weight management problem

Edit: If you've already tried the compassion approach and they didn't change don't feel bad about it. therapists are actually permitted to give up on difficult patients because watching the person's cycle of turmoil emotionally tears them down too. It's even worse when the person is a friend

You can set up a barrier to protect yourself, "dont talk to me anymore about x' unless you decide to do y'' on every other topic we can continue to talk and be friends just don't bring this up to me anymore"

I have used Capcut and Wondershare Filmora to edit clips for my family and the most significant difference I noticed between these two software and Premiere Pro is the export time. With the latter it takes about 30 mins to an hour to finish exporting, however on Premiere Pro, I have to leave it for the whole day to finish. If you have a regular to medium range PC, it makes sense to use 1080p settings and the lowest bitrate if you do want to continue using Adobe Premiere Pro. Whereas Capcut and Wondershare Filmora can export 4k without taking that much of a toll on your PC.

LPT: If you don't bring back home tons of groceries in a single trip, a backpack is a great substitute for a shopping bag

I live in an urban area where the supermarkets are 3-5 min. walking distance; so I go shopping at least once or twice a week whenever I run out of a certain item. If you're like me and don't do your shopping in bulk or don't shop monthly etc. using a backpack is a great way to bring the stuff back home.

Carrying it back home is way easier because your back can lift a lot more weight than your hands. Your hands are also free in case you need to carry an extra bag or two. Plus, a backpack is much sturdier than a regular shopping bag.
