LPT:If you tell somebody "No Rush", don't get mad when they take you at your word.

Too many people say "No hurry or No rush" and then get all bent out of shape when the person back-burners the task. If it really is a rush job, then say so, but don't say anything if it's not. Saying "No rush" is basically telling the person that it's not important.

LPT: Hiring a housecleaner doesn't make you a pathetic failure as an adult. Housecleaning is as honorable a profession as any and involves skills many people do not have. It is an expense, but if you can afford it, it can save you things as valuable as money: time, sanity, and family harmony.

I think a lot of people feel guilty having someone come in and clean their house, like it's hiring a slave.

But cleaning houses is no different than most other jobs people do - we do them because we have the time, experience, and skills other people don't. This is how things work in a state-level society. There is no reason a housecleaner cannot take pride in their work and be professional.

You don't need to get someone every week or even every two weeks to make a big difference.

What helped me get over the hump of feeling ashamed to hire someone one was to be sure to hire people from reputable companies that I know give their employees salaries and benefits. This costs quite a bit more than the person who gets a few bucks under the table, but for me it's worth it. I am also confident I am interacting with a skilled professional. The company I work with has low turnover and great people who like and trust, so I think it's good people.

I know someone getting a few bucks under the table like "needs" the work more, but it just makes me uncomfortable to work that way.

LPT: If you have an expensive medication prescribed always check for manufacturer coupon or cards on the company's website

My family has had two medications prescribed in the past year that unfortunately even with my employer-based insurance came out to hundreds of dollars per month. Drugs with no generic equivalent based on needed delivery method or extended release. In both cases I was able to apply a manufacturer's card/coupon that reduced our cost to $25 per month. Never pay at the pharmacy without checking!

LPT: Voting is not like taking a test. You can make all your ballot decisions ahead of time and bring a 'cheat sheet' with you to help fill out your ballot

For anyone who still votes the day of an election, it saves a lot of time in the voting center and it's particularly handy for remembering the down-ballot smaller items.

Bonus LPT: voting is also not like a test in that you can totally leave part of your ballot blank.

LPT: Buy a laser printer, not inkjet

More often than not you don't need color printing. Laser printing is faster, cheaper, and more efficient. The toner lasts a very long time and when it's out it's out, you don't have to worry about having Cyan to print black. Toner also doesn't dry out because it's just powder, so it lasts a very long time if you only print from time to time.

Brother's printers are pretty solid and don't cost a ton of money. I've had the same cartridge of toner for almost three years, and it's the one it came with when I bought it.

LPT If you're a shy person and want to make friends, try putting stickers of things you're interested on your laptop/phone

The amount of people I've never spoken to before who approached me over the band stickers I put on my laptop honestly shocked me lmao. It's hard to tell just looking at someone if you have anything in common but if people know they will have a common interest with you before even talking to you, then you can easily strike up a conversation over that.

LPT → Easily Remember Phone Numbers of key contacts

For a long time, I've wanted to memorize the phone numbers of key people in my life, for situations where I might need them in an emergency and my phone isn't working or available. However, I kept procrastinating. Recently, I've thought of a method that requires almost no effort:

When calling one of your key contacts, look for the number in your phone like usual, but then manually type it out again instead of hitting the dial button directly. This process allows for immediate verification of the numbers as you enter them, helping you instantly spot and correct any mistakes. It's a form of learning through repetition that, to me, doesn't feel like an effort to memorize.

I hope someone will find this useful :)

LPT: How to not dwell on your past?

I am 26 years old, and I have made a LOT of mistakes in my life. Way too many to count. I've said and done a lot of bad things and made many mistakes.. however.. the thing that gets to me the most is all of the lies I have told. I am a recovering compulsive/psychological liar. I lied about so many things.. big or small. There were so many little things that I have lied about for absolutely no reason. Just the smallest, stupidest things. Things that I had absolutely no reason to lie about and things that do not even matter. I just lied all the time for no reason.
I've even gone as far as making up the most rediculous stories that were total lies and didn't actually happen. I don't know what I did it. I really don't. All the lies l've told.. some being big.. some being small.. some being tiny & pointless.. I don't know why I did it. I really don't. It eats me alive inside. I am a different person now and I am an honest person. I have worked on myself and made myself better. But I dwell on my past 24/7 and even being a better person now.. I cannot enjoy myself or my life whatsoever because I am so ashamed, embarrassed, and humiliated of my past and my past mistakes. I just want to forgive myself and move on. I don't know why I did it.. and I think maybe I will never know.. but right now.. all I want is to forgive myself and enjoy my life and not dwell on my past 24/7 to the point wher making me physically ill. How do I move on?
How can I enjoy life again?

LPT - Moving into a rental? Take pictures BEFORE you move any of your stuff in. Don't get hosed on your deposit.

- Sometimes rental agencies re-use old photos. Sometimes folks renting places out are shitty.

- Don't get stuck with the previous renters damages that the landlord/management company didn't fix or notice, or with damage folks make up or take from other apartments or places and claim them as yours.

- Want an extra layer of "Ah hell nah son, this was like this when I got here. You aren't charging me for shit."/"Really, because that damage wasn't there when I moved in, nor when I moved out."?

- Before/Immediately after you sign the lease/contract, send those pictures/video to the landlord/management place in an email asking some seemingly low level unimportant question just so there is a better paper trail, but also doesn't come off like you think they are sketchy, even if they are.

- If this option isn't your style, send those pictures/video to yourself via your email to your email, texting your own number, etc.

- Make sure to take pictures/video after you move out and do your deep clean too, comparison proof is important.

Save your money and don't get screwed out of it. Take care, and have a good weekend!

LPT: if you buy a replacement product for one that runs out slowly, mark the open product to note that you have a replacement so you don't overbuy

Example: I use olive oil somewhat slowly so I don't always have a new bottle in pantry ready to take over. At some point, I'll decide the level in the open bottle is low enough that I should buy a new bottle in advance.

But that new bottle is stored away from where I keep the open bottle and I'm liable to forget that I have it. Then, grabbing my running-low bottle of olive oil, I'll tell myself "oh, should buy a new one". And now I have two new bottles in my pantry (and not unlimited storage space because city apartment)

\--> When I buy the new bottle, I mark the open bottle with painter's tape that "stock ok". This way, the thing I am grabbing also reminds me that I no longer need to worry about its replacement.

LPT: do not argue, document

Whether it be at your work, when you are buying something, in school, or when seeking healthcare, get in the habit of documenting negative experiences, especially if there is a pattern.

Open a document on your phone, and note down the date, time, person, location, circumstance, and what happened using as many quotation marks as you can.

This way, instead of saying “I get bullied at work all the time” you can say “on 1/7/24 sally smith pointed at my stomach, called me “fat” and started laughing. Then on 2/4/24, she…” You get the idea.

When bad things happen, it might take you a while to feel ready to do something about it. In the moment, the best thing to do is to document the details of the encounter while they are still fresh. Just doing that might make you feel like you took back some power. You will also have all the information available for when you do feel ready.

LPT: You will have to repeat things to your partner or spouse that they think you never told them. That's not a flaw in their character or a sign they don't listen, it's a reflection of the sheer amount of information you communicate to each other in the course of a day.

There are parts of your relationship that are like a job -- if there are important things that are slipping through, write notes or set up a system, like a shared calendar or shared notebook, that is a source of truth for things you want the other person to remember.

And be patient. Managing life, a home, and a relationship is hard work for anyone.

LPT How to manage part and full time jobs with gym and sleep properly?

I work in the IT field, I have a flexible work hours full time job which I can start any time maximum 11 am and do 7 hours. I am planning to accept a remotly part time job in the IT field too where I have to put 20 hours weekly to save up some money to get married and buy a car. My schedule nowadays is:
wake up at 6 am.
Gym from 7-9:30.
Full time 10-5.
6 will be at home
I sleep from 11-6 almost every night

I was thinking of doing my part time shift 8 pm-12am, but my friends from experience told me to do it from 10-2 and then sleep but I think that will exhaust me. But I am willing to try if you advise it

How to manage sleeping properly with 2 jobs and gym? And when should I start my part time shift?

LPT - Get your cat a reflective collar and engrave "indoor cat" on the tag

Get your cat a reflective collar and engrave "indoor cat" on the tag

TL;DR: it'll help them get home faster if they escape.

I live in a dangerous place for cats to be outside. Harsh weather, multiple native predators, lots of large roads, and (I know from working in a local hardware store) there's a huge mouse problem and most folks use poison to kill them.

All of these pose a huge risk to cats. I make it a point to scoop up any cat I can find and try to bring them home or to a shelter, because they will not survive on their own.

If your cat doesn't have a tag and goes missing, it will be harder to get them back to you. Some people see a cat outside and assume it's an outdoor cat (which don't live long around here) and won't try to help.
Putting "indoor cat" under their name ensures that anyone who sees it knows that they aren't supposed to be outside.
A reflective collar gives them a much better chance to avoid being hit by a car, and makes it easier to find them in the dark.

And for the people who claim cats should be outdoor animals: you are wrong and you know it. If you wouldn't dump a terrier on the street for a day, don't do it to a cat. If you cat is interested in going outside, train them to use a harness and leash (I can help!) and take them for supervised walks. They'll live longer and won't decimate local small animal populations.
