Banking gigs often require only a HS diploma and pay $20+ per hour (in my state, YMMV). You get every federal holiday off with pay, and they're usually generous with vacation and benefits. Plus it's a great way to learn about money.

LPT Request: How can I get on the same page with my name roommate?
I am someone who cooks almost every day, therefore I need to do the dishes daily. I hate going to bed knowing that my dishes aren't done downstairs. My roommate is the complete opposite. Their dishes are piling up in the sink even though we have a dishwasher which I don't/can't even use as it is always full. I cannot do my own dishes because of the fact that both sides of the sink are full, and I need to either clean or move their dishes to have some space. Would I be an AH if I ask them to leave at least one side of the sink clear so I can sleep in peace?

I found out the hard way that it can take 7-10 days for your coverage to reactivate after paying your premium.
I’m currently having to reschedule/delay follow-ups and scans for cancer and for a broken arm because my claims are being denied.
Yes, technically you have 45 days to elect, and coverage is retroactive to when you lost coverage, but doctors’ offices may not want to see you until it’s active.

LPT Request: how can I make tile grout in the shower/on the floor white again using non chemical items? Also how to keep them white.
In my apartment, the ventilation in the shower room isn’t working properly, so I don’t want to use strong chemical solutions to clean.
I heard somewhere that rinsing the tiles with really hot water would keep them cleaner and the tile would dry quicker, thus preventing the mould growth. Is there any truth to it? Thank you.

I see it all the time in first amendment audits.
Someone is filming in public. Someone comes out of the woodwork to start screaming and crying hysterically about how they don't want to be filmed. Now there is a reason to pay attention to you and make fun of you for acting like an idiot.
My favorite is when people freak out over cameras, then call cops with body cams and don't seem to care about those, then they create public records of their private property and personal information as they beg cops for unlawful violence.

LPT - Don't get roped into nonsense UPS 'brokerage fees'
I just spent the last week navigating endless phone calls and e-mails with UPS, finally calling the CBSA in the end (Canada Border Services Agency). *There is likely an equivalent border agency in the USA.
They told me UPS and some other carriers will often try to rope people into using their brokerage services and they'll quote you anywhere from $40-$100 or more for doing basically nothing. (they quoted me $100)
\-You can request to 'self broker'
\-You don't have to show up in person at the warehouse or airport like they told me
\-You don't have to hire a private broker
They legally must provide you with the PARS # or equivalent, you take this to your local CBSA and pay the customs fee, that's it.
Then the package is released by the warehouse wherever it is on your side of the border

LPT: Do a vigorous rub instead of scratching
Sometimes you just need to “scratch” that itch but rubbing vigorously actually soothes the itch too and is safer. I’ve scratched too hard at times or scratched too long over and over and ended up breaking the skin. With rubbing that never happens and you get the same effect. Plus the benefit of warming with your hand and the friction.

LPT: screenshot/save compliments that you get when you start a new job/internship and save it privately. It will become useful when looking for a new job.
If you get any compliments, please save them. If it was a verbal comment, you can always save it in your phone/email with the name, time and date. After a few years working at a certain place, you'll have a list of compliments that will become useful when interviewing for a new position.
You can use these to answer the question:
"What is your greatest strength", "Tell us more about yourself and your character", "How would your colleagues describe you", ...
And an extra benefit, re-reading those compliments can give you a moral boost.

LPT Registering pre-paid debit cards allows you to use them on streaming services
I’ve accumulated several prepaid visa debit/credit cards from birthdays/holidays. Finally figured out if you actually go to the website on the card you can register and get a “billing address” attached to it, allowing you to use it for subscription based services! Works really well when you just want the service for whatever new show has hit the streets, without the risk of wasting money after you forget about it.

LPT Request: Something about my face makes people think I have an attitude.
Ever since I was younger I've been told I have an attitude. Coaches, parents, teammates, etc. I genuinely don’t have any idea what they are talking about. A coach would be talking to me and I will be listening to what they are saying and really focusing and they will say “wipe that look off your face.” Another example is I will be chilling, just minding my own business and my parents will say I have an attitude and stop being so miserable. Like, I’m just chilling. No negative thoughts, nothing.
I tried asking my dad about it and he said that I do have an attitude. I said I don’t understand and he said yes you do. I’m at a loss, every time I ask about it, I just have people repeat this to me.
Like, why can’t I just stand here or hang out? I overheard a coworker saying that I looked bored the whole time. I was actually feeling pretty good, relaxed and just doing my job.

LPT Request: Why do I do literally everything slowly compared to others.
All time from childhood, I've been told that I'm slow from my parents, and I am slow at literally everything, eating, body movement, understanding something or doing some work. Even at driving, my brain can't do multitasking and I take so much time to shift gears(manual) and zone out often.
I had to upload some necessary documents for my upcoming job and I took atleast 4-5 hours doing that simple task, re reading guidelines and rechecking everything. At sports I've been made fun of several times for my slowness even though I try my best.
How can I become better? When I try to do things fast, I mess them and do very clumsy work and when It's slow I make less mistake but have more chance of zoning out and missing some important detail.
Honestly I feel my Iq and common sense is getting lower every year.
Also if this helps I would mention that I get anxiety quickly and overthink constantly.

LPT: Keep your cats indoors
I'm sure this has been posted before, but I feel it bears repeating. The statistics show that while indoor cats typically live 10-20 years, outdoor cats have a life expectancy of only 2-5 years. If that doesn't make the difference stark enough for you, I don't know what will.
I know that to me and others, this is common sense, which I suppose could be considered breaking rule 4 of this sub. But I also know that all too many pet owners choose not to follow it anyway, and the pets are the ones who pay the price. If you feel the need to take this post down I understand, but I feel like it's a message worth spreading.

LPT: Don't ALWAYS respond immediately to people.
it's ok to be aware of emails coming in, and texts and all that. but if you give the impression that your ALWAYS available to repsond, then it actually gives off one of two vibes:
1. Workaholic with no chill
2. Doesn't have much going on.. ever.
and honestly most people, even bosses, will assume the second one.. it's better to intentionally let some emails wait before responding or signing that form and sending it back (all in reasonable amount of time, just not immediately).. to give the impression that you were busy at the time, and got to it when you could.
You can take this advice or not, idc, but honestly i'm saving you the rumors if you're one of the people that respond ALL the time, almost within 5-10 minutes of an email going out and it's not even urgent..

The easiest way to get your kid to memorize your phone number is to turn it into a song and sing it to them until it sticks. You can make up your own or use an old tune like “Twinkle, Twinkle,” “On, Wisconsin” or “Oom Pah Pah.”
It does not have to sound good. You do not need to sing well. The only downside is that you probably won’t ever be able to get it out of your own head.

LPT: Buy a new scent of deodorant or perfume before you go on vacation to use on that trip
The sense of smell provokes stronger memories than either sight or sound. Having a new scent associated with a pleasant event can help you relive that even after it's over if you still have access to that same scent. If you have a terrible time you can always throw it out and never buy it again. A few years ago before travelling to Europe I bought a new type of deodorant and even after coming back whenever I use it it brings back memories of the trip no photos or videos can. I'm sure the smell of freshly baked croissants can do that too but it's kind of hard to find that where I live.

LPT: there are chocolate toxicity calculators you can use online if your dog has eaten chocolate.
I work in a vets and we often have people ringing saying their dog ate a small piece of chocolate and they think it’ll be poisonous right away but it depends on your dogs weight, the cacao % in the chocolate and how much of it they ate so if you ever find yourself in that situation you can have a quick check on google before seeing if you do need to go to the vets or not.
We use it in our vets all the time it’s a life saver there are a few different ones online just google “chocolate toxicity calculator” and they will pop up and you just enter your dogs weight, what kind of chocolate they ate and how much of it and it will let you know how serious it is.
Of course if you’re really worried or your dog shows signs of lethargy or is off form then you should of course ring your vets and ask them but it’s a handy thing to have in the back of your mind.
Edit: just an extra fyi if your dog does eat a large amount of chocolate (or anything else they shouldn’t have) you you only have in and around an hour to make the dog sick otherwise it’ll be digested so do ring your vets immediately if your dog eats something poisonous.

LPT - Get Pet Insurance. My dog got cancer and after spending 5K I ran out of money and had to euthanize him because I ran out of money, even though he was showing signs of improvement.
I'm gutted. My best friend of 3 years suddenly started acting tired and lethargic so I ran him by our vet to check him out. It turned out he had cancer around his intestines (I'm not really good at medical stuff) and they needed to operate. The removed what he could and put him on doggy chemo to make the tumors smaller. This was over the course of 6 weeks but at the end of 6 weeks I had spent over $5,000 and missed multiple days of work. I had to borrow half of that money from friends and family. When I went back to my vet she said it would probably cost another couple of thousand dollars to beat it. I simply did not have it or could borrow anymore. So I had to put him down.
I didn't really know about pet insurance at that time. But since then, I've done quite a bit of research and want to encourage everyone with a pet and not millions of dollars to consider it.
After reading about this issue I found out that 66% of pets are euthanized because of financial costs. Here's a quote from a veterinarian journal:
"Veterinarian costs have increased, on average, by 10-12%2, pet owners are often left few options, including waiving necessary medical care, giving their pet(s) up for adoption, or choosing to put them to sleep – often for common, easily treatable ailments. In fact, 2 out of every 3 pets are euthanized every week solely due to economic reasons.3 And, among the senior population and with families living on fixed incomes, medical experts suggest that this deadly statistic may be much higher."
So, I am a statistic and my best friend paid for my mistake. I'll never forgive myself no matter what anyone says, he is dead because I didn't do enough research and plan for 'just in case'. I could afford a couple hundred dollars for vet checkups and shots but I was not prepared for cancer or an accident.
Don't spend the rest of your life beating yourself up for a mistake you can never take back. Look into pet insurance.
