LPT: confidence is sexy, don’t explain your boundaries

I used to feel guilty turning people down, whether it was a date, a collab, or even just ignoring weird messages. I’d write essays trying to justify why I couldn’t do something, worried they’d be mad or think I was rude.

But one day I just said: “No thanks, that’s not for me.” No explanation. Just polite and firm.

To my surprise? Nobody fought back. Most people respected it more. Some even apologized for asking.

Turns out, confidence and boundaries are hotter than over explaining. Whether you’re in content creation, dating, or just life - say less, and own your “No.”

LPT TIL what “Actively Hiring” really means on LinkedIn job posts

TIL that when a job on LinkedIn is labeled as “Actively Hiring”, it doesn’t just mean the company is hiring in general—it actually means they’ve assigned a recruiter or hiring manager to that specific posting who is actively reviewing applicants.

This tag usually shows up when there’s someone internally managing the pipeline and trying to fill the role quickly. It’s not a guarantee you’ll get a call back, but your odds of being seen (and possibly getting a faster response) are higher compared to listings without that tag.

Also learned you can filter for these jobs using the LinkedIn URL by adding f_AL=true—which basically means you’re only seeing roles where someone is actually monitoring and pushing the hire forward.

Not all job listings are equal, and now I know which ones to prioritize when I apply.

LPT If you have Progressive insurance, double check that you have Roadside Assistance on it.

I've handled roadside assistance calls for multiple companies and one thing I've noticed and learned is that with Progressive you have to specifically request to have it added on to your policy. I've had I don't know how many calls with people finding out at the worst possible time that they don't have Roadside for their vehicle.

LPT: Talk to people who are figuring life out too

I used to think self-improvement was a solo thing.

Read the books, lift the weights, make the money.

But recently I realized the biggest “life hack” isn’t a productivity app or morning routine, it’s people.

Having someone to talk to who’s going through the same stuff? Game changer.

Just to actually talk to people figuring out discipline, ambition, routine, growth. All the things that aren’t as glamorous as they look online.

If you’re around the same stage (late teens/early 20s especially), I’d love to hear what you’re working on or struggling with. Might even hop on a quick call with my mate and just talk about how we’re all trying to improve.

We have a space where people like us can connect and learn ⬇️

LPT - When you're not satisfied with your life, pick one area to focus on changing first.

I used to think that if I wanted to turn my life around, I had to fix everything all at once. So I’d make a big list: wake up earlier, start working out, meditate daily, eat healthier, cut screen time, journal, build a side hustle, be more social… you get the idea. I’d dive in full of motivation, determined to overhaul my life — and then crash hard a week or two later.

What I’ve learned (both through personal trial and error and working in behavioral science) is that willpower is limited. When we try to change too many things at once, we spread that willpower thin and end up making no real progress in any area. But when we choose one area — just one — that we genuinely care about, and start there, we give ourselves the best shot at success. Progress in that one area builds momentum and confidence to eventually take on more.

It might feel slow. It might feel like you’re not doing “enough.” But if you stick with it, you are changing. And each new habit or shift gets easier to build on the last.

LPT Profiles on YouTube can be used to create different 'channels' of different interests you have.

If you're like me and got sick of YouTube offering stale recos, try creating some fresh google profiles. You'll want to try and limit yourself to specific interests on each profile.

Now, I have a profile channel that is mostly kitchen stuff, one that is for science stuff, one for music, one for politics, and so on.

And because the algorithm thinks that you are a person that is REALLY into that one subject you get all the great deep cut videos the algorithm usually buries.

LPT: Use a consistent naming convention and folder structure for your digital notes and files from the start

As a student drowning in lecture notes, readings, and project files, I learned this the hard way. Trying to find something from last semester was a nightmare. Seriously, take 5 minutes *now* to decide on a system (like "COURSE_CODE-Lecture_Num-Topic" or "YYYY-MM-DD_Project_Name_Version") and stick to it. Future you will be eternally grateful when you're not digging through "Document(1)_Final_final_REVISED.docx". It saves so much stress and time, especially during crunch time before exams or deadlines.

LPT: If you are going to vomit, and don’t want to: think about something else and concentrate, and also hum, just hum a lot

If you are going to vomit and you think about vomiting, then you will. If you think “I will NOT vomit” then you will.

But if you concentrate on something (other than vomiting) and really think about that - I find music helps a LOT - then you will likely avoid vomiting. See, vomiting is actually a pretty voluntary action, controlled by your mind, not your stomach. If you think about it in any way, you are increasing the chances of it happening, but if you concentrate on something else and make sure you don’t think about vomiting, then you probably won’t vomit.

Humming also helps a lot, it’s partly another thing to focus on while you are thinking about things, it helps control your breathing (it makes you take deep breaths and then hum it out over as long a period as possible until you need to take another deep breath and repeat). It will be tiring and you will want to stop, but keep humming, and it will make that want to vomit stop.

I also find listening to music while doing the previous two things helps a lot, it distracts you even more, and you can choose the right kind of music to help you feel better: angry, happy, sad, etc (I find angry works as it helps me not give in and stay focused)

Also lying back (I would still recommend very elevated, but comfortable) and closing your eyes or covering them with something helps a lot, and of course, with the above 3 things at the same time.

These things should prevent you from vomiting at any time, unless you took something to intentionally make you vomit or your situation is very dire.

I found, developed, and used these tricks very often as for the past few years I’ve been getting very nauseous and been needing to vomit so often (sometimes 3 times a day, if, I’d be vomiting, if I let it) and I haven’t vomited in many years thanks to this.

LPT: If you have an Iphone, don’t use an online converter to turn files into a PDF. Use the “print” feature in the Photo or Files app.

For example, you can send your images to your phone. Once they’re in your photo library, select them, hit send, and hit “print.” Do a zoom in motion on the image that appears and the image will maximize. Now hit the new send button that just appeared and hit save as PDF.

This also works in the files app. Select a few files, hit the send or share (whatever you call it) button in the bottom left corner, and repeat the same process. This can even merge PDFs together.

Almost any app with the box and arrow send symbol (such as the notes app) can also do this.

LPT: Avoid telling yourself "I need to...", or "I should do..."; instead say "I will-", or "I'm going to-"

When working toward your goals, avoid the mental trap of using phrasing that leads off with "I need to do X", or "I should start doing Y". Language is incredibly powerful, and it directly impacts how successful we'll be in life.

Using poor phrasing can create a sort of "false equivalency" (those learned in psychology might correct my terminology here) in your brain that can sabotage plans before you've even started. Use words that are actionable and direct.

Try this. Instead of saying:

"I need to get back to the gym...", or "I need to workout again..."; say "I'm going to the gym after work at 5:30", or "I'll do my morning workout at 6am".

"I should really start eating better...", or "I ought to eat less junk food..."; say "We'll make This clean meal for dinner and our healthy snack tonight will be That".

or

"I want to drink less...", or "I wish I could stop drinking/smoking..."; tell yourself "I only drink water" or "I just breathe clean air".

Try it, use it, it works and will help you. You'll still have to put in effort and attention to detail, but you'll be setup for much greater success with less internal strife along the way.

LPT: Learn how to give your dog the heimlich

Call it paternal instincts, neurosis, a premonition, or something else, but when I got my puppy, I watched a YouTube video on how to treat a choking dog. I never expected (or wanted) to have to use that knowledge but I figured better to be safe than sorry. I've now used it twice!

The first instance the little guy choked on a pigs ear. This one's on me; turns out these are a common cause of choking. (Incidental LPT to research choking hazards.) However, in the second instance, he inhaled the small tip of a sprinkler. It must have been an accident as we have trained him not to eat things off the floor (or maybe he's just an idiot when I'm not looking). Anyway, I don't think anyone can prepare for that, which is where the LPT comes in.

You can't really "stay calm" in this situation (I was totally freaking out) but thank God I knew what to do and sprung into action. It dislodged after the longest 15 seconds of my life and he started running around like it never happened 🙄 ... I think I pulled a hammy.

So, set the time aside to watch and learn. Send it to your friends and family. It's something so small but could potentially save a dog's life 🐶

LPT: Gate check-in your slightly oversized bags for free on flights

I’ve been on multiple flights like Delta, American and others where I was not allowed to take my carry-on bag with me because it was a few inches bigger (it did look bigger than the carry-on bags too to be fair) than the maximum size.

In all of these flights, they’ve asked me to free gate check-in the bag at the counter while boarding because most of the times these flights are full and run out of overhead bin space. In Delta, they even gave me a boarding group upgrade from 8 to 5 just for voluntarily checking in the bag.

All the check-ins cost 30-40 $ (wherever a check-in is not free ofc), so you can end up saving that lots of times. Don’t check in the bag at the terminal, take it to the boarding gate and check it in for free!
