LPT: Policies and procedures are created by people and can be amended by people
When you have to make a request to a customer service or your employer, they might use "this is the policy" as an excuse to deny it.
What that means is, they don't think your request warrants bypassing the policy/procedure. Keep that in mind before giving up.
Don't give up just because "it's policy" when you know your request is being unfairly denied.
You could ask for an exemption. You can ask to get your request escalated to someone who could grant an exemption. If you have enough evidence to support it, you could even make a case that the policy and procedure is just BS and need to be amended.
With your boss, a denial based on policy might be an evidence that he doesn't believe enough in your case to push further.
I have gotten flight ticket refunds, product replacements, higher pay and quicker resolution of issues by being persistent and patient.
Please don't be an ass about it. Do it when you actually believe you have a case worth other people's extra effort.
Edit:
I guess I didn't get the point across quite well.
Policies and procedures exist for reasons. Often good. Don't go requesting for an exemption all the fucking time.
These policies and procedures are never perfect. If you think you are being unfairly denied because of a policy, you should consider if it's worth pushing back.
The LPT is targeted at those people who roll over and admit defeat when treated unfairly by a policy.

LPT: when things out of your control become stressful, take it as an opportunity to challenge yourself, change your perception and practice coping techniques
Like if you're stopped at a stop light and it turns green and the person in front of you takes a bit before they get going. I mean ... I understand why that can be frustrating. It frustrates me. It's totally cool and totally normal to honk.
What's funny is the light just as well might've stayed red a little bit longer and you would've thought nothing of it.
I take these opportunities (like when waiting on something, or dealing with an unforseen consequence) to challenge myself to try and exercise patience or employ emotional regulation techniques, and perhaps change my perception of the situation. Particularly if they're out of my control, that's a good time to practice acceptance. You might change your perception and pretend you just arrived and haven't been waiting very long. Who knows, you might even be able to trick your brain when your tired by pretending you just woke up, instead of mulling over how you've been working all day. Perhaps then you'll get your second wind

LPT: Stop itchy bites from itching with heat
I've seen a lot of people who don't know this trick and it's saved me a lot of itchiness so I figured I'd share. If you've got like a mosquito bite or leech bite etc and it's super itchy and won't stop, instead just trying to ignore it, run a metal spoon under hot water, hot as you can stand, then immediately press the back of the hot spoon on the itchy bite. The heat denatures the proteins that cause it to itch and gives you some relief without making it worse or risking infection by scratching.

LPT: Always get a new car insurance quote before renewing
Every 6 months I open a private tab and make a new quote on my car insurance site with the exact same information as my previous policy, except with a different email. I don't lie on my quotes, and after they run the reports on all drivers/vehicles, my price is always exactly the same as the quote price. I have had it change before, but only when I've missed adding data from the previous policy. I don't shop around - I'm making these quotes on my current insurance's site. I've been with the same insurance company the whole time.
I've moved states so I've only done this 3 times so far, but each time I've gotten a cheaper price. The first time it was around (I'll be using pay in full prices) $150 cheaper. The second time was about $350 cheaper. The third time was $650 cheaper. Nothing's changed, and in just the last year, my policy is $1000 cheaper (comparing what I paid 12 months ago to what I paid this time). Exact same coverage. Same motor history, accident report. Same everything. $1000 cheaper. Insured drivers have a clean driving history the whole time. Cars have had no accidents.
I always call my car insurance company once I've confirmed the quote price is cheaper. I explain I've made a new quote, give them my previous policy's renewal price, and tell them to make it happen. And they do. Every time I do it I tell myself I just had a $$$/hr phone call (adjusted per savings amount).

LPT: Ask the older mothers about their own mothers this Mother's Day
Coming in late, but today it dawned on me that many Mother's Day gatherings include someone who is missing their own mother. Now that I'm celebrating Mother's Day without my mom, I wonder why I wasn't sensitive to her loss when my grandmother passed. Instead I was all focused on "Hey Mom, here's a card, aren't you glad that you're my mother?"
Seriously, it's not too late to give Mom a call and say, "I was just thinking about Grandma and how much I miss her on Mother's Day." It will mean the world to your mom.*
*Obviously, not everyone has a healthy mother/child relationship, so be discerning.

LPT: When someone’s venting, ask “Do you want comfort or solutions?” It can literally save your relationship.
I’m a super practical person the kind who hears a problem and instantly wants to fix it. My girlfriend? Total opposite. She feels deeply, and when she talks about her day, especially stuff that went wrong at work or in her personal life, she usually just wants to let it out.
But I used to mess that up all the time. She’d tell me about some annoying coworker or something her friend said, and I’d jump in with stuff like, “Just talk to your manager” or “Why are you even friends with her then?”
Yeah… not helpful.
Then I heard this thing I don’t remember if it was an elder who told me or just some reel I saw but it said: “Ask if they want comfort or solutions.” That one line changed everything.
It wasn’t until I started asking, “Do you want comfort or solutions?” that things changed. Sounds simple, but it made a huge difference. Most of the time she just says, “Just listen” and boom, now I know what she needs. No guessing, no frustration, no accidental fights.
It works for friends too. Sometimes people just need to feel heard, not fixed. Asking that one question makes you seem way more emotionally intelligent and it keeps the peace.
Try it. Seriously.

LPT - Any tips for being more detail-oriented in everyday life?
Hi folks, I've been struggling for years to improve my detail-oriented ability, and by detail-oriented, I mean in every aspect of daily life, not just in a specific area.
The weird thing is, professionally, I'm very detail-oriented and can handle things holistically. I typically produce work with high accuracy. Coworkers who used to have joint viewings with me to go over reports or spreadsheets would usually freak out by how meticulously I check every number / item / clause. I want to stress that I don't really love my job, but I'm pretty good at it since it's my only way of earning a living.
However, in other aspects of life, things are reversed, from the trivial things, such as buying used items, to major events like going to a house showing or checking out a new car, or even just having a conversation with someone, I often zone out, overlook details or fail to examine key aspects. This often leads to me being ripped off or coming home with plenty of unanswered questions that I should have asked, it's like I always focus on something else that isn't important.
Because I know my weaknesses, I'll often make a mental note of what info I need before talking to someone. If I do that little prep, it usually works out, but if I just wing it, I usually screw it up.
Basically, even though I feel proud of myself at work, I'm usually bummed out with myself in other context.
It would be lovely if you could give me some advice on how to fix this. Thanks in advance!

If you say that you are embarrassed after whatever embarrassing thing you just did and said you will feel less cringe and it won't become a cringe memory
Example: you claimed something you are confident in then sooner or later you are proven wrong, just admit you were wrong or call yourself out this way you won't remember this embarrassing moment in the near future when your go about your day
If you had done nothing or did not say anything most likely you will remember that cringe moment for some time

LPT: Shady people trying to log into your Outlook account? Disable them all, and create a new private alias.
I was tired of all these login attempts on my account, at least 100 per day, all unsuccessful, but still. Russia, China, Belgium, Spain, they came from everywhere, and tried to log in. This has been the case for a decade, at least. My account is pretty damn old, I'm talking 20 years old, so it surely has leaked in some cases.
Recently, I got a heavy input of login requests over my outlook app. You know, the three numbers where you have to choose one number to log in, then use your fingerprint, done, logged into another device.
I didn't request these logins, they were bots / hackers, trying to get into my account. This was annoying as hell, as I always had to deny them, daily, several times.
My account never got fully compromised, there was no unusual activity or anything, but it was close to being done one day. Maybe someone even had access to it, who knows, I for sure don't.
I tried password changes, changing my aliases, but it was of no use, I had the requests back in a few minutes.
Here is how I finally solved this - Go to your aliases on the Outlook settings, where all your different emails are, with one main email / primary email you can choose, if you have created more than one email for the same account. Create a new alias that you can remember. Do NEVER use this new alias for ANYTHING, besides logging into your account. Set it as your primary alias. Do not use it for any new accounts on websites, not for games, nothing. This is now your personal private alias just for logging into Outlook, nothing else.
Now, there's an option on the bottom where the alias list is, the last option, where you can disable emails from logging into your account, but they are still fully working for everything else, just not able to log into your outlook anymore.
Now, create a new password, a good one.
Now..
Disable all of the aliases. Each and every one, besides the new primary alias you have just created.
And you're done. You will never ever see another person trying to access your Outlook account, there will be no more requests, nothing. Yesterday I had around 50+ unsuccessful login attempts on my email, around 4 number code requests, and they instantly stopped after I've done this, nothing new today. You can now only use your new alias to log into your outlook, and nothing else, so make sure to remember it fully. All other aliases and emails will not work anymore when trying to log into Outlook, I've tried, they "do not exist". But - they still work. You can create accounts with these emails, use them for literally everything, nothing will change at all. They just don't exist for the outlook login anymore.
I hope I'm able to help a few people with this issue, this is 100% the solution and will stop any and all login attempts that aren't from you. Forever (unless you have a keylogger installed or something).
Edit: I thought it's basic knowledge these days, but also make sure to have MFA / 2FA enabled. Not just Outlook, but everywhere with the possibility to enable it. This is one, if not the most important security feature these days.

LPT freeze food that’s gone bad to make it easier to bin and clean the container
Last week I forgot to keep the leftover soup in the fridge and it stayed on the counter for 4 days and went bad. I was dreading throwing it away because it would stink and cleaning the container would make me want to throw up. My roommate suggested freezing it and it was so much nicer to just throw the soup and clean the container afterwards.

LPT Request: Unconventional places to look for a cheap but reliable car
Hey all. I need a car to drive to and from gigs (maybe 200-300 miles a week) but I am flat broke and really trying to avoid unnecessary debt. I’ve heard of people getting cheap but still reliable cars without going to a dealership - like I’ve seen people driving old taxis or cop cars with all the decals removed, and I’ve heard of people buying surplus cars from auction or something. I don’t want to sink money into a questionable beater off Craigslist but I also don’t want to sign a lease right now with my current financial situation. I just don’t know what non-dealership options exist and are worth pursuing. If anyone has experience with this I would love some pointers! Thank you!
