LPT: Peppermint oil will help keep out unwanted spiders in your house
I used to live in Louisiana where spiders would generally like to come inside a LOT when it would rain. I generally do not mind as they keep other pesky bugs out but I rather them stay in my garden area than inside.
Peppermint oil, any kind really, keeps spiders away. Dap a drop in every corner of the house and door/window opening. They will stay away as they do not like it since it disrupts their sensory receptors.
Not only that but if you love the smell of peppermint, your house will smell faintly of peppermint depending on how much you use!

LPT: Make a travel checklist once, and reuse it every time.
You’ll quickly realize you pack pretty much the same stuff on every trip: passport, tickets, USB charger, maybe eye drops or earplugs. Add personal items and even pre-departure tasks like “turn off the heater,” “shut off the water,” or “close all windows.” Most smartphones have a checklist feature in the notes app. One simple list turns packing from a chaotic mess into a calm 20-minute routine.

LPT Request: How to say "no" in a leardship position?
Today, something odd happened to me: my manager got mad at me because I let someone override my judgment and let them have their way,
Some context: I manage department X, which is the basis for departments Y and Z, and we recently welcomed another teammate to department Z - which bridges department X and Y together.
Our dep. Z colleague started to come up with an insane number of changes to the process, always saying that he had aligned those with our CEO.
Turns out I had a huge recurrent task due today (this happened yesterday, by the way) and he told me that I'd have to push it to next week because he had 5 urgent tasks for me to tackle. And, again, he told me he had aligned that with our CEO. I thought it was insane, but I just said "yes" and went with it.
Eventually, the CEO asks for the huge recurrent task and I tell him it was pushed to Monday because of the urgent tasks. He freaks out and get extremely pissed off at me and the rest of the head of departments.
He then sets up a call with me and dep. Z colleague so we can clarify everything. I told him what happened, my colleague blatantly lies about the whole thing, and the CEO goes on for well over 10 minutes telling me how I should learn to say "no" to people and that I'm responsible for the outcome of my own department despite other people's requests or mistakes.
I agree with him.
And this made me realize that I have a hard time maintaining my role as a team leader and being able to say "no" when I know the outcome will be negative.
So, how do I learn this skill? How can I improve this so it doesn't happen anymore?
I feel that a big part of what has me saying "yes" to people and agreeing to an excessive amount of tasks is my own insecurities.

LPT Want to be secure from hackers? Separate your e-mail accounts!
Something this simple can save you hours on trying to recover your lost online accounts and drastically improve your online safety. The best part? **It's very simple!**
What you want is to **create 5 different e-mail accounts** (can be with the same provider, doesn't matter as long as there are 5 different accounts)
* 1st e-mail account — address for official communication only (government, bank and other important institutions)
* 2nd e-mail account — used only for registration on reputable and important websites
* 3rd e-mail account — online shopping and such activities
* 4th e-mail account — entertainment (gaming, streaming and whatnot)
* 5th e-mail account — spam; this one is used for registration on suspicious websites where there's a high chance of data breach
Why is this necessary? A LOT of people use the same e-mail address for EVERYTHING. Their inbox is filled with spam and simply cannot get rid of it. Once your e-mail address leaks and hackers breach it, they didn't only took control over your e-mail address. They took control over all of your online accounts! Same goes for using pseudonyms.
When you separate your e-mail accounts, only one e-mail accounts gets compromised while others stay safe. Security of your accounts and online identity is something your really shouldn't take for granted.
Be clever and stay safe!

LPT: If you're waiting on a future appointment and have a flexible schedule, call and ask if they have a cancellation list!
Primarily helpful for doctor's appointments, but can also apply to places like salons, pet care places, etc. Just ask if they've got a list and most of the time they'll put you on it if they do. Also don't hesitate to just ask outright if they've had anyone cancel to see if they can fit you in earlier.
It's hit or miss whether they'll actually call you in case of a cancellation, but it's always worth a shot (especially with how booked up everything is nowadays).

LPT :- I use YouTube as my personal cloud storage
So this might sound odd, but I’ve been using YouTube as a kind of cloud storage since 2021—and it’s been a game changer for saving space on my devices.
It all started in June 2021 when my sister got married. The cameraman gave us a pendrive with about 80 GB of wedding footage (7 full-length videos). Naturally, we were all worried: what if the pendrive got lost or corrupted? So I transferred the files to my laptop. But that took up a lot of space, and realistically, no one was going to watch those videos regularly.
That’s when I had a lightbulb moment—why not upload them to YouTube? I uploaded all the videos privately and realized it solved every problem:
- I could access or download them anytime.
- I could easily share the links with family or friends.
- I freed up tons of space on my laptop.
Since then, it’s become a habit. Anytime I come across videos on my phone that I know I won’t watch again—but also can’t bring myself to delete—I upload them to YouTube as private or unlisted videos. They’re safe, organized, and always accessible.
Just wanted to share this in case anyone else is struggling with limited storage or sentimental videos they can't part with. YouTube makes it super easy, and you get to choose if they stay private or public.
Hope this helps someone out there!

LPT Need to clear and erase cigarette smoke smell? Here's the best way
Being a heavy smoker, I've found this is the best way to do it without painting the entire place and/or replacing any and all items/furniture from the place.
People talk about using natural vinegar, put it in cups everywhere and wait for months. Good tip, it works.
Better though: Put a big pot with natural vinegar on a (camping) stove in the room most affected and let it simmer, almost boiling. LEAVE THE ROOM and close the doors and windows. This will fill the air in the entire room with vinegar, which you will smell HEAVILY for a week after. When you think it's ready, air the room out properly and see how far you got. Might need to repeat the process if it is really bad.
Be sure to NOT breathe in the air in the room when you are putting the stove off. Also make sure you get to it before the pot runs dry (put a timer). Make sure to get odorless, NATURAL vinegar.
It's based on my grandmother cleaning cooking smells this way. You guys got any better tips?

LPT: learn to use your microwave’s different power levels to heat food more evenly without sacrificing too much texture.
I’ve used my microwave different power levels to heat food throughout the years but today I tried to take it to another level. I had a $11 burger sitting in the fridge for over a day and wasn’t sure how to heat it up. damn sure wasn’t going to waste it. So instead of the usual 50% for two minutes, I tried 20% for 5 minutes and it was warm in a nice way but not entirely done. I then put it in for another four minutes at 10% and that did the trick! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not as good as a fresh burger, but it didn’t suffer from the typical “nuked” food problems, hot spots, hard bread, etc.

LPT Unity in Diversity
I am pondering on mysteries of individuality and the bonds that tie us together, whether it is fingers on our hand or the children born to the same parents.
Each person is born with their own unique characteristics, talents and experiences are not equal or same as our fingers. This individuality is what makes human connections rich and diverse.
Some find meaning in relationships, others in personal achievements or contributions to the society. Celebrating the differences between individuals can lead to a more harmonious and vibrant community. Just as fingers work together despite their differences, people can come together, respecting and appreciating their unique qualities.
'What will I get?" if one takes away this thought, then naturally we will be in sync with everything around us as always Sadhguru speaks about this. The moment 'what will I get?' comes up, many transactions start, competition to get better than others arise, causing a worst scenario.
A lot of sensible, conscious human beings doing the necessary things in sync are the need of the hour to save our planet from disaster.

LPT: Designate spaces and things to prevent distraction and help with association
I learned this during my college days and especially during lock-down 2020-21: designate certain spaces to only be for certain things, whenever possible. I lived in a studio for a while, and I never studied in bed or watched tv there. The bed was only for sleeping (and you know). Otherwise I’d get sleepy while studying, or stay awake thinking of school instead of drifting off to sleep. The moment I’m in bed it’s bc I’m going to sleep.
If separate spaces isn’t an option for you, there are still solutions. When working from home started, I had to have my desk in my room (lived with dad and sister) and hated it. The bed was mere feet away and it was easy to just flop onto bed instead of working. So because I couldn’t change the space, I added things like “I only wear this perfume when I’m working. I always listen to this playlist when I’m working. Lunchtime doesn’t change on workdays.” I even gave myself a “commute” by immediately taking a 30 min walk to mimic my drive home. My bedroom was multi-purpose, but other things weren’t.
When I moved into a hybrid schedule that need shifted a little, but now that I own a 2-story and live alone, I never go upstairs unless I’m working in my office (where all I ever do there is work and nothing else, I leave it the moment I’m done working) getting dressed or going to bed. Every space has a designated task and it helps separate my brain via associations so I can shift from task to task relatively easily. I’m asleep in less than 8 minutes bc my room isn’t where I go to “hang out.” I know that’s not always possible if you don’t live alone, so designating and associating other controllables can help here.

LPT: If you rely on daily medication, most insurance companies and pharmacies allow refills 3–5 days early, which lets you build a stockpile for emergencies over time.
Just to add a bit of detail: This isn't sketchy or breaking any rules. Pharmacies and insurance providers generally expect people to refill a few days early to avoid gaps. Over time, this adds up to a solid backup supply.
This can be especially important if you live in an area prone to hurricanes, wildfires, or supply disruption or travel or rely on others for pickup.
If you're unsure how early your plan allows, just ask your pharmacy or check your insurance portal. Most will tell you the exact number of days in advance they allow. Some even have automatic refill programs that do this for you.
*Edit
Sorry to have been USA-centric and not think of you folks abroad. 😅
This advice is based on experiences with U.S. pharmacy and insurance systems. Refill policies may vary by provider, state, or country, so this won’t apply to everyone. It is just something that’s helped me and a few others I know when this situation is applicable.
Sorry for the confusion.

LPT: get out of phone/scrolling fixation by grabbing 5-10 items and doing real-life-scrolling
I’ve been in a phone/scrolling/merge game fixation for weeks even though I’ve been bored when I’m using my phone. Today, I grabbed 5 books (poetry, cook book, yoga, comic book, coffee table picture book), a Rubik’s cube, a mancala board, and a sketch pad and pencil.
I would use or read each item until I got bored, anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, and then would immediately move on to whatever I felt like grabbing in the next moment. You could use dice or a number generator app to help you pick a number if you’re totally unmotivated and then assign numbers to the items.
No judgement about not having an attention span and not gaining any depth of knowledge from the thing you’re using or reading— you’re just applying the algorithm-driven scrolling behavior to real, tangible items, which will not demand your attention in an exploitative way.

LPT: to get an idea of how much an area floods near a stream or small river, look at overhanging branches on trees.
If there are trees with branches over hanging the river, look for grass hanging off the branches. That will give you an idea of water levels in flood time within racing years. When the water's rise and did grass gets torn out, as it rises it catches on the branches which are now closer to the water surface. Therefore, you can judge where the water has risen to in recent years by how high in the branches there is grass.
TLDR: grass in trees shows flood height

LPT: Use local news to figure out how town names are pronounced
If you're not sure how to pronounce a town's name, look up "[Town\] local news" on YouTube and the news anchors will demonstrate how to say it correctly
Gotta be the local news stations and affiliates, though. If it's national news, all bets are off. Reports about minor car crashes and obscure zoning disputes are guaranteed to be local. The local anchors know they'll get made fun of by natives if they get pronunciations wrong.
This especially applies in America where locals love to come up with inventive pronunciations of names that were originally Native American, French, or Spanish. If you've just moved to a new place and need to learn all the local towns, or are interviewing for a job somewhere you don't live, this trick will work.
