Wife changing her family name normal or not?

Hey, my wife is considering to change her family name to the one I have. Is this something normal in Morocco or does everyone keep their own family name?

Is there some stigma behind any of the choices?

What would you do and why?

Questions to Ask Moroccan Females and Males

I have noticed that many women seem to look for someone who has money, a business, and a house, rather than a man who can only afford a modest living.

Announcement: SOB Stories Are Now Banned

Salam r/morocco,

We have enforced new rules in our subreddit. From now on, we won't allow:

1. Posts that are just sad stories asking for money or help. We call these "SOB stories" (Sad, Over-the-top, Begging).
2. Posts asking how to leave Morocco illegally or how to cheat on visa applications.
3. Posts about tricking or using people from other countries for immigration.

What are these banned posts?

SOB stories usually:

Talk about problems or very sad situations in a subjective way
Try to make people feel bad so they give money or jobs
Focus too much on personal troubles instead of topics about Morocco

Illegal immigration posts:

Ask how to leave Morocco without proper papers
Look for ways to cheat on visa applications
Try to find loopholes in immigration laws
Ask how to trick or seduce people from other countries for marriage or visas
Look for websites to find vulnerable people abroad
Seek advice on manipulating foreigners for immigration purposes

Why are we stopping these posts?

1. To keep our subreddit about Morocco and not just personal problems
2. To stop people from using fake stories to get money (I personally got scammed multiple times from those posts. While I like to help people, I get a bitter taste when I find out that I sent money to some kid to buy drugs or to pay his gambling addiction)
3. To make sure we see more posts about Moroccan culture, news, and life
4. To avoid promoting illegal activities that can put people in danger
5. To respect international laws and maintain good relationships with other countries
6. To prevent the exploitation of vulnerable people, both in Morocco and abroad

What does this mean for you?

We will remove posts that are about personal problems, asking for money, seeking help with illegal immigration, or trying to exploit foreigners
We will ban people who make these posts
If you need help, please use other subreddits made for that or seek legal advice from professionals

Conclusion:

We have to be strict about this because some people are trying to trick our community, promote dangerous illegal activities, or exploit others:

For regular users who post and comment often:

First time breaking the rule: Ban for 1 day and we'll send you this post
Second time: Permanent ban, no more posting ever

For new accounts/throwaways:

First time breaking the rule: Permanent ban, no second chances

Help Us Moderate: Using the u/geojin Bot and Smart Reporting System

To keep our community clean, we've set up a special bot and smart reporting system. Here's how it works:

If you see a post that looks like a SOB story or breaks our new rules:

Comment on the post with: !sobstory
This will ping u/geojin bot

How reports are handled:

At first, all your reports will be checked by moderators before any action is taken.
If you build a good reputation by reporting correctly, the bot will start to trust you.
For trusted users, the bot may take action on reported posts without moderator approval.

This system helps us act fast on bad posts while also being fair. It rewards users who help keep r/morocco clean and friendly.

Important:

Only use !sobstory for clear rule breaks, not just posts you disagree with.
False reports can hurt your reputation and may lead to losing your reporting privileges.

Best regards,

The Mod Team of r/morocco

What happens if you miss your train?

I'm wondering about the train policies in Morocco, and I can't find my answer in their terms & conditions. Does anyone know if you miss your train, can you just hop on the next one?

Obviously, you'd need to change your ticket to get a new seat if you're in 1st class, but is that how it works? Is even possible ?

Good spots to hang out with SO in nador

We are currently in nador, near the beach Courniche with all the restaurants like Sushi box.

Although this is very beautifully area to hang out, we want to see some other beautiful places too.

Any recommendations? We are willing to travel 1 hour with bus or taxi to other locations. Anything more is a bit exhausting at the Moment.

"Fake Moroccan"

I am Spanish Moroccan and, when I was a teenager, at school I has often called Fake Moroccan (as a joke, not to bully me). Do you want to know why? It was because I was the only Moroccan there who was respectful and had good grades. The girls in general tend to be much better and more responsible, but the boys are a total disaster. Some of them are very loud, they steal, harass girl and the worst even rape or kill, I have known three cases of people who did that, and I didn't even live in a bad zone. No wonder why the extreme right is growing.

I'm sure someone in the diaspora will blame the recent harraga, the nationals will blame the Zmagria (specially the French ones), the Riffians will blame l3robiyin, people further south will blame the Riffians. Those are excuses, because it is not a specific type of people who has the problem, but it is widespread. I don't hate my country, I'm not ashamed to be Moroccan, but that's the truth and I don't know why it happens.

Dealing with a Close-Minded Society: Fit In or Stand Apart?

I'm a 27-year-old guy from a middle-class background living in Casablanca, Morocco, and I’m dealing with a challenge.

How would you handle living in an environment where people are close-minded? By that, I mean they lack critical thinking, don’t accept differences, don't belive in Mental health, avoid deep thinking, and often lead contradictory, hypocritical lives without self-awareness.

It feels like they’re NPCs, stuck in the same routine day in and day out.

My question is: Would you try to fit into this environment, even if it means pretending to be someone you’re not? Would you try to change them, knowing it’s nearly impossible? Or would you withdraw and live in your own world?

Honestly, I see them useless members of society who aren’t contributing in any meaningful way. How do you deal with people like this?

Knowing French and English IS a sign of culture in Morocco, people who deny that are coping

"Language isn't a criterion for culture" is one of the sentences that I hear most often in Morocco, it's used as a way to devalue the importance of foreign languages, particularly French and English. And people love repeating it without demonstrating it or even thinking about what they are saying.

Language is at the center of human civilization, it's indissociable from culture and education. What else is a criterion for culture if not language? The depth of what you know is linked to the depth of your linguistic prowess. How can you master Literature, History, Philosophy, Science, Politics, Theater without language? How can you deeply analyze anything without mastering language?

Throughout history, learning language, oftentimes a classical language such as Ancient Greek, Latin, Classical Arabic, Sanskrit, was the first step in becoming a "cultured" person. It continues to be so today with primary and secondary education focusing primarily on mastering language.

In Morocco, not mastering French and English is a sign that you've had a lackluster primary and secondary education. It's just a fact. It also means you are disconnected from the west where all the major science and humanities development happen in the contemporary age.

Are there exceptions to this? Yes. Is it still one of the most reliable if not the most reliable way to gauge someone's degree of culture. Also yes.

Any other woman here (or man) who feels trapped by religious values surrounding chastity?

I can see the comments about "you do it for God not for society" coming. I did it for God. Still feel trapped and played. I feel so naive, like so damn naive for being too much of a good girl, for following the rules to a t and for never even thinking about going against my family teachings. Now at 24, never have experienced anything remotely romantic, hell I don't even remember holding a platonic conversation with a man, it feels like it was too much? I missed on teenage romance, on early twenties romance, and now in my mid 20s I feel too old for that and coming across a comment on social media about how women expire at 25 every now and then and those assumptions about how all women are whoring around and late 20s women who want to settle down are just leftovers, doesn't help my case either. It makes me so anxious and it hurts a lot.

The other issue that comes along with being a prude besides missing out on some needed experiences, is the absolute ignorance about how to do it. I can't recognize the line between sluttery and respectful "getting to know someone", it's the strong internal resistance that makes me feel like a st if I just responded to a message. And then seeing all those people who found their better half do it because they met enough men/women, it makes me certain that I took the wrong decision staying away from Haram interactions.

Anyone here feels the same?
