What do I wear to Morrocan wedding

I'm following my bf to a wedding held in Morroco. I'm Korean so I feel like I'm going to stand out anyways.. and it seems like I should be covering almost every part of my body? But even if we ask the people who invited us to the wedding they're like oh you can wear anything which I feel like is not true. They both live in London, but they will have their families their who live in Morroco and I don't want to seem like I'm not respecting their culture. I really only have revealing dresses.. Best I have is a long one with spaghetti straps.. but that shows shoulder so obvs not going to work 🥲🥲🥲 the wedding is next week and I'm so stressed can someone share photos of what people wear as wedding guests. I did google search and can't find helpful photos tbh. I don't want to buy a traditional dress for this one occasion either as we've already paid for flights and accommodation..

How much do I pay the taxi driver

I was in morocco last year in casablanca and I went from derb ghallef to maarif for like 150 dirhams and when I asked my moroccan friends when I got back to the states and they said I really overpayed, so for my future trip to Moroccos reference can someone tell me the correct (if there even is) rule of thumb for the taxi driver maybe like a KM -> Dirham counter 😂

Are you paying zakat al mal ?

Hi therec
I just saw a post about zakat al mal and that if you exceed a certain amount of savings you have to give zakat of 2.5%.
But I've never heard of it before! and I'm confused as I don't know how much savings I had for an entire lunar year.
Doing the calculation I get a figure of $500.
Do you have information and who do you donate it to?? because I don't know people in need, thank you 🙏

A rant about the self entitled team A coach that we have!!!

I'm absolutely fed up with the way regragui is interfering with Skitioui's management of the Moroccan Olympic football team. This guy is everywhere—constantly shouting and shadowing them at the hotel, on the pitch, during training, even in the hallways before they get on the field. It's insane. This is a classic example of a problem we have everywhere in Morocco: people not fully owning their responsibilities and others always sticking their noses where they don't belong. It's so frustrating! You could see the impact on the team's performance—they were doing great offensively until Regragui started meddling. The second half turned into a defensive mess, which is totally his style. I'm beyond tired of this nonsense!

Please I don’t want anyone saying, that’s it’s healthy, or that we got to the semifinals thanks to his intervention, because we did not, not his play style and defo not his effort, and even if it was, i hate seeing this behavior it’s toxic and it’s total disrespect to the person in charge.

“Morocco is beautiful but..

the unsolicited attention from men made me feel unsafe”, “the aggressive and persistent behaviour from the vendors made me uncomfortable” are the feedbacks that I get the most from people (mainly women) after coming back from Morocco.
What do you guys think of this and is there a solution? Some sort of educational campaign? Punishments/consequences for the harassers? With the huge events that Morocco will be hosting in the next few years and with the aim to position itself as a premier tourist destination these are among the first things that need to be fixed along with cleanliness and little scams like the fake guides and taxis.

Are there Moroccans who grew up in Europe and emigrated to Morocco?

I am curious about your stories. I am considering emigrating to Morocco myself. Why did you emigrate to Morocco? Would you recommend it to others? What are your monthly expenses? How do you ensure that your (future) children receive a good education? How is the healthcare system? Do they have health insurance? Do you have a source of income? Would you do it again if you could make the choice again?

My father is sick with something and he refuses to get help

Hello, i am 21F. I have lived abroad for two years now. Since covid, my dad changed a lot. In the beginning, i thought he had anxiety issues because he overthinks like crazy and any minor inconvenience is hindrance like no other. For instance, if it was cold outside and he forgot his jacket, he keeps talking about it as he was diagnosed with a life threatening condition. He also has another huge problem, he has issues seeing. His sight has worsened but he is only 60yo, he can’t read anymore and whenever i am with him in the car, he drives irresponsibly : slow af and he stops in the middle of the road to think about where to park. Sometimes, something is on the table and he can’t see it. He went to doctors many times and each time they give a different diagnosis and no help. He needs to be assisted for everything he does. He can’t focus anymore, he can’t read anymore and when to talk to him, you have to repeat yourself because the first time he is out. Btw he is only 60yo, he always wore glasses but this is getting out of hand. Last year, he did an MRI and everything was fine, we thought it might be a brain tumor. Hamdoulilah it’s not the case. He also lost a lot of weight, but i suspect it’s because he can’t see his plate. Do you think it might be diabetes or something more related to psychological disorders. He lost his mother last spring and according to my aunts and my mother, he was the one who cried the most and had the hardest time accepting it. My younger brother just got his bac, and he isn’t being serious about his future which also triggers stress for dad. Anyway do you guys have any idea what this might be. We live in Casablanca, if you have any doctors to recommend.
Reminder of symptoms : lack of focus, no spatial awareness, sleeping a lot, wandering thoughts, overthinking, trouble seeing, unable to face uncertainty, loss of weight . Please i need help.

my moroccan brother / friend died today.

salaam, M23 american here again. i’ve posted here before.

last night, my moroccan brother/friend died. he was only 21. my heart is hurting, and i don’t know what to do. i just want to talk about him, i guess.

i met him a little over a year ago when i arrived in morocco. i was in rabat to study. he was first my friend’s host brother. however, we hung out nearly everyday. i eventually ended up moving in with my friend, him, and his family for a few weeks toward the end of my time in morocco.

from the very beginning, i knew we’d be friends long after i had to leave. he was so sweet to us. he looked after us as foreigners and told us it was his job to keep us safe, take care of us, etc.

he also could be a bit mischievous. he definitely got into trouble at times, but he was just so funny about it. and he was such a joy to be around.

i left a little under a year ago, and our friendship hadn’t lessened any. we texted and sent insta reels back and forth most days. in fact, we did that very thing less than 24 hours before i learned he’d passed away.

my heart hurts. it hurts so bad. i was hoping to return and visit him soon. i still might, but he obviously won’t be there. at least not in the physical sense.

i also feel joy. i feel peace. i feel joy because i got to be his friend, even if only for a short time. i feel peace because nothing was unsaid between us. i love him and he loved me, and we both knew that. my only regret is that i will not get to be with him longer.

can anyone tell me what to do? for now, i will have to grieve from thousands of miles away in the US. he was not in morocco when he died, and wasn’t with his family, so i’m not sure how he will get home. can anyone tell me about moroccan rituals/traditions that happen. funerals? is there anything i can do for his family from so far away? he was the only one of the family that spoke english, so now i’ve lost my translator too.

i’ve missed him since the day i left but now i miss him more. if anyone has words of encouragement or advice, i’m listening. 💔❤️

Need a lawyer strong in sexual crimes

Hi there!
I was assaulted sexually by the host of Airbnb when I was in Tangier. And I reported it to the police station with the chat history as evidence. I met the prosecutor and argued with the man already.
I’m going to the court to meet the judge on 5th September.
I need legal advice on this case. Is there anyone with same situation? Could you give me any lawyers information?
I am not sure about the Moroccan law. Will he go to jail? How much he would pay me for compensation?
Thanks for any advice for that!

Rant Anyone else annoyed with the CONSTANT noise?

I feel like we live in CONSTANT noise. It feels impossible to enjoy some quiet - From klaxon trigger happy assholes to the constant noise of cars passing by, the occasional 500db motorcycle accelerating at the speed of light (WOW YOU ARE SO COOL), the guy who will leave his engine on while parked under your apartment..

The coworker who will turn on the AC at 09AM instead of opening the fucking window (to his credit, he actually does both at the same time, while sniffling twice per minute. He's not even sick he just likes sniffling).

After finishing the day and going home (while enjoying, again, the symphony of klaxons), there is the occasional screaming contest by the neighbors on top, the toddler screaming for his life, the lady who enjoys intimacy with her husband a bit too much, the teenagers who just got their driving license and will park outside with loud music and vapes..

Trying to enjoy a lazy day off? Tough fucking luck, 08h30am on saturday is actually the optimal time bach ibdaw i9t3ou zlij. You can either put on headphones to try to drown the noise, or go to the café near you where they'll be blasting Al-Jazeera or National geographic at full volume (Why?)

Anyway, am I overeacting? Anyone else irritated by this?

We should be tougher on crime

Some people here are just filthy cockroaches and need to be treated without any respect or consideration for human rights.

The police should take care of these savage animals and protect the poor regular Moroccan people rather than the tourists or the rich. I don't care about the opinion of a French tourist that got scammed, I care about my grandpa that everytime that he goes outside at night he is afraid of what could happen to him or my female cousins that almost always encounter some mchrmlin who sexually harass her.

I want a safe country on a Qatar/Norway/Japan level, where you can leave your car open and nothing will happen. If the prisons are full, put them on a boat and let them drown in the ocean, very far from the coast so they can't swim back (only the worst criminals). We could also use them as forced labour, like China, so the prisoneres are profitable and that way we can afford more cameras, policemen, and burocrats to control the criminals better. There are a lot of ways to handle these people.

I know that the ideal situation would be that the people have a good education, well paying jobs and an efficient healthcare system, but until we aren't developed, we need to be harsh with all the scum!
