Our Problems Aren’t About Religion, It’s About Education and Morals

Okay, so I’ve been meaning to talk about this for a while because I see this topic popping up more and more. Lately, a lot of people are blaming most of Morocco’s societal problems on Islam as a religion. But here’s the thing: I don’t think it’s about Islam at all. I’m a practicing Muslim myself, so this isn’t about critiquing the religion. I genuinely believe the root of our issues lies in a lack of education—both at home and in public spaces.

First off, let’s talk about corruption, theft, bribery—stuff that everyone knows is rampant here. Islam explicitly forbids these actions and condemns them in the harshest terms. Yet the same people who regularly hit up the mosque are often the ones engaging in these behaviors. Like, how does that even make sense? It’s not a religion problem; it’s a conviction and morals problem. Islam isn’t just about praying and fasting—it’s also about being an honest, trustworthy human being. But greed and the lust for power/money are what seem to drive most people here. At this point, it’s not about what someone believes; it’s about whether or not they have any principles or moral backbone.

The next big issue is something I find alarming: sexual harassment. Men in our country often get labeled as creeps or perverts, and honestly? In many cases, it’s deserved. But this behavior doesn’t come from religion—it comes from poor education and a lack of self-respect. Islam teaches respect for women and emphasizes treating them well. As a brother and a son, I can’t wrap my head around how some men behave. Here’s a personal example: Two years ago at the beach, my sister and mom were chilling while my dad and I played beach tennis. When we came back, we found them absolutely terrified because some guy had been hitting on my sister right in front of my mom. The dude didn’t even flinch when my dad and I showed up—he kept staring at her like a creep. Sure, he might call himself a Muslim, but let’s be real: there’s no difference between a guy like that and an animal.

Also, let’s not get sidetracked with the whole “how girls dress” debate. Personally, I think modesty is great, but at the end of the day, people are free to dress how they want. What someone wears is never a justification for harassment. Full stop.

Lastly, I honestly think Muslim societies are going through their darkest times right now. Look at history—Europe in the Middle Ages was full of raiders, rapists, and harassers while the Muslim world thrived on respect and dignity. Now it feels like the roles have flipped, and it’s devestating to watch.

Sorry for the long rant, but this has been weighing on me for a long time now.

Terminally ill, should I go back to Morocco for my final days?

Guys it is with deep and profund sadness and sorrow that I (44F) am debating with myself what to do. I have a rare and very fast degenerative neurological disease called mutlisystem atrophy. Basically within less than a year I went from almost normal, active, working full time etc, to now, being on a wheelchair with extremely weak limbs. I cannot do anything by myself and depend on caregivers for everything. I live in Canada where the medical system cannot do much anyway as the disease is incurable. Even though l2a3mar bi yadi Allah, with this horrendus condition, I may die from sudden cardiac arrest today just like I may live one or two more years given the speed of the progression. I haven't been back to Morocco since 2017, that's the year both my parents passed away Allah yar7amhom. I don't really have family left except a cousin that may or may not want to take of me as she has her own health issues. I am thinking I could sell whatever I have here and go to my parents house in Marrakech but obviously I wonder who could care for my needs there until I die. My brothers think it's a bad idea because I am so dependent that I could easily be taken advantage of and I am totally defenseless. A little voice tells me that I want to at least be burried there but is it reasonable? It also really really sucks for me to think that I may never see my country again. What do you guys think?
Thank you very much for reading.

"ربط باش تلقى ماتحل"

Last night, my beloved bicycle that I have gone through so much with got stolen. I locked it up religiously with my apartment iron door ,even though the outer door of the building is almost always closed at night, and at times I even used to peek through the peephole at night whenever I went to the bathroom to check up on it.
And the one time I neglected to lock it up it was gone lol
It was the perfect storm as the outer door of the apartment building that I live was left wide open, something that happens rarely sealing the fate of the bicycle this time around.
The worst part is that my mother coming home did notify me that the bike wasn’t locked to the door as usual and that I should get up and see to it but me being already snuggled in my bed and getting sleepy and thinking nothing more of it, I practically kissed my bike goodbye.
And that all it takes fellas, one slip and you are sure to pay lol
If anything, I hope this act as a reminder that what needs to happen today should not be delayed to tomorrow cause you better believe that those who are lurking among will not fail to capitalize on it.

Do Moroccans consider themselves to be white?

I have a Moroccan friend who was studying in Europe and she gets confused for a white girl all the time. She has blonde hair and light eyes. My other Moroccan friend is a brunette but also very white and many of her Latino friends call her a “blanquita” (white) instead of Morena (brown). Some of my Arab friends who are very pale tell me they don’t identify as white because only Christians & Jews can be white. How common is this ideology?

Sexism in Morocco

Bear with me, I'm going to ask something extremely important.

Why can't a woman walk in a street minding her own business without being sexually harassed? Is it because men think they own women?

And when these men get rejected, why do they go from the "hey sweetie" attitude immediately into calling them 97ba? Don't these men have mothers?

15 years old doing e commerce

Hello, I have been selling digital products like Netflix, Spotify subscriptions and everything digital for about a year now.

I am Taha, I am 15 years old and thanks to the bank account that my mother opened for me, I started selling digital products through ads in Avito Insta and thank God in 1 year of work I collected more than 5000dh. What I would like to say is that age is not a barrier to start your business and collect money. Guys my age play football and get into relationships mo7arama then that I stay at home and collect the money with one call and finally they make fun of me "wa lm3a9ed"

This activity taught me several things like how to communicate well with people, and it improved my level in English and French.
