Something like NYT's "The Caliphate"?

I know, it turned out to be fake.
I heard it much before that, and really enjoyed it.
Is there anything similar that's recommended?
(Doesn't have to be about war, etc)

Current best paranormal/unsolved mysteries podcast besides Mr. Ballen?

I like Mr. Ballen but am caught up. I’m looking specifically for true paranormal and/or unsolved mysteries, high quality, podcasts. Preferably user stories.

I’m not a fan of sound effects or commonly repeated stories (ie; Waverly Hills and such). Prefer US based because it’s easier for me to relate when I can envision the area it took place. I’m not a big fan of cryptids or UFOS, but am cool with unique true crime on occasion.

Any suggestions?

Weird, creative, whiplash comedic fantasy/scifi podcast recommendations

Hi, I listen to podcasts while running and just pretty much finished my to-listen list. I'm really hoping some of you fine folks could recommend some. I actually got some of the loved podcasts below from lurking on this sub (including from https://i.redd.it/mt306s7lqp921.jpg), but now I've run out. Looking for:

speculative fiction-- either scripted or actual play
whiplash comedy and using speculative fiction as a vehicle for delving into deeper societal issues; I'm a huge sucker for detective/hardboiled-noir structures in fantasy/scifi settings, evil megacorps, and sardonic protagonists
driving plot (totally fine if the story ends) rather than episodic or anthology.
character interaction vs isolation stories, and characters flawed and inherently striving to be better enough to get invested in.
minimal/no romance
I'm unfortunately pretty sensitive to audio quality and actor charisma/naturalness (not feeling like they're reading off a script).

My absolute favorite podcast is probably Midst. I love the level of creativity; the inventiveness; the weirdness; the unique style; the epic take on monetized morality. I just finished Malevolent (Arthur!) and apart from being hooked by the plot, I just can't stop being impressed by the foleywork and the one-man choose-your-own-adventure wildness of it. I'm a fan of Penumbra (specifically Juno Steele as I never got into Second City) for the acting and the hardboiled vibe and the tackling of tough topics, enough to tolerate the romance. Enjoyed Night Shift though it's right up against my romance tolerance. Loved Bubble and hope they make another season. Enjoyed The Tower, despite its single-narrator slow build defying my usual preferences. I enjoy Life with Althaar and Hannahpocalypse but not motivated to binge them; really enjoyed Mission Rejected through the first two seasons but kind of fell out of it. I'm a huge fan of most of Definitely Human, scripted and realplay, (especially MarsCorp, Down, and Infinite Bad). Gave a good try for Phenomenon, Black Tapes, Tanis, Wolf 359, Amelia Project, We Fix Space Junk but not 100% compelling for me (We Fix Space Junk should be my thing and I do think I like it, but somehow don't feel invested); tried Magic Tavern, Alba Salix, Beacon, Bright Tapes, Tides, Bridge, Scottish Podcast, Hidden People, Orphans, We're Alive, Greater Boston, Our Fair City, Night Vale, Magnus Archives, Girl in Space, Starship Iris, EOS10, but didn't get immediately hooked (possibly didn't give them a fair try so if it takes a while to get into them please let me know.)

On the actual play side, I like a strong friendship between players, not taking themselves too seriously, a GM who is playing "for" the players, not against them, and a plot that feels meaningful. I love naddpod (it got me into the genre) and Dungeons and Daddies; enjoyed Dimension 20 but bothered by the audio quality and haven't finished the second season; recently got into Pretending to Be People (mostly second season and fewshots as the first campaign didn't really grab me). I'd love to find a good Delta Green podcast to learn the rules from. I used Glass Cannon Network's Time for Chaos to learn CoC; tried the Blades in the Dark campaign but GM felt "against" the players. I enjoy Ain't Slayed Nobody short shots for their easygoing vibes, but I think I prefer more natural audio for realplay and the npc dubbing is a neat concept in theory but throws me out of the story. I've tried and jumped out of enough aps that I can't actually remember which I tried; sensitivity to

What are some money making related podcasts with as little fluff as possible and that get straight to the point?

Where they cut to the chase. They're not really engaging in small talk, like talking about their background and whatnot. Podcasts related to making money, for example: business, ways to making money online, entrepreneurship, jobs, etc.

Pods about specific actors in the Resistance during WW2?

Really enjoyed the book “A Woman of No Importance” and have recently been reading about Nancy Wake.

Concurrently listening to Winds of Change which got me in a spy mood and now I’m wondering if there’s any pods about specific people in the resistance? Preferably something intense, interesting, gripping that tells the tale of their life and times.

Thank you!

Looking for a fiction podcast about aliens

Hello,

The podcast I'm looking for had a female main character who worked with a team of researchers where she wasn't a researcher herself but was a podcaster who recorded them and published the recordings as episodes while narrating a few bits. Those episodes were also the episodes you listened to irl.

I'm not too sure about the plot but I believe the team was researching a strange recording of an alien presumably. I'm not too sure about the plot bc I think I found this podcast while searching for podcasts similar to wolf 359 so I may be mixing their plots together.

Thank you for the help!!

Rewatch podcasts

Recently, I’ve been really into tv rewatch podcasts for both old and new shows. Oysters clams and cockles was fantastic for house of the dragon and white lotus. Nathan for us covers all of Nathan for you and his new show The Rehearsal. Striped sweater is a great adult take on SpongeBob. And Naruto Reviewto takes me back to my childhood each time it hits the playlist!

Please shout out if you’re listening to anything similar!

Some podcast lists - arms, corruption, drugs, organized crime, etc.

I wanted to see what new pods I could find on these topics and decided to put together some lists. Sharing in case anyone finds them useful. Let me know which pods/eps I'm missing and I'm happy to add.

Here's a general list (made on Listen Notes) of both specific episodes as well as overall podcasts that touch on either the arms industry, corruption, drug markets, organized crime, and other similar topics. It's not too specific in terms of focus beyond something relating to one of those topics.

Here's the list of trailers for the pods from the above list.

Here's a list of podcasts related to drug policy, history, harm reduction, etc.

I haven't listened to all of them (yet) so can't speak to every single one - this is meant to be an overall list vs trying to recommend specific shows/eps. I'll add some more that I listen to / come across in older posts as I have free time in the coming weeks.

For transparency, I do have a podcast that's in one of the lists. The goal of this post is not self promotion so I don't want to highlight it but flagging just in case that already violates the self-promotion rule. Happy to remove mine from the list if needed.

Is there a podcast where somebody just reads recipes?

I don't mean where they discuss their favorite food or meals they grew up with or narrate the cooking process. I mean does anyone with a lovely soothing voice just sit there and simply read recipes straight out of a book?

Podcasts with a Texas (or even just southern) accent

I find that many podcasts I listen to have hosts with either neutral “American” accents, or explicitly northeastern accents.

Would love to hear recommendations for podcasts where the host sounds southern. It might sound corny, but I’m really looking for a Sam Elliot cowboy type of voice.

Animal Podcasts?

I’ve just started listening to podcasts and am browsing for mainly animal podcasts. Although I’m also curious about other types of sciences. I lean more towards more comedic and more easily digestible while still being for adults. Right now I’ve started listening to strange animals podcast and ologies. Please give me suggestions and include a little summary if you can! Thank you!

do you hate listen to anything?

for me, i hate listen to wine and crime. their “jokes” are annoying, they have 10+ minute ad breaks, and they’re the kind of “feminist” who say objectifying women is bad then talks about which men they wanna see naked. i am annoyed any time i listen, but i can’t stop. what about y’all?

Better app than Podkicker Pro?

Been using it for years, but lately all my patreon RSS feeds stop letting me download episodes after about a week, giving me a "forbidden" error, unless I delete all the episodes and the feed, then resubscribe.

Any recommendations for a better app? Sick of dealing with this.

Looking for a Podcast with young male hosts who have moved to a new City

Male hosts in their 20’s with good humour and not afraid of explicit topics. Two dudes talking kind of thing. No specific topic but good conversations about life in a new city. Similar to What’s the quack or the Milk Bucket Podcast if anyones familiar.

I recommend Suicide Pact if you're looking for something light and easy to listen to!

I just want to do an appreciation post for Suicide Pact! If you want a light, topical and comedic podcast to listen to, I implore you to give them a listen. The two hosts are absolutely fucking hilarious if you like dark laughs and random takes on random things. I've been in the worst mood lately and it's been really uplifting.

It's a topical podcast so it's great for the weekly listen, however, a couple of days ago, I started going back to listen from the beginning and it's still great!

Flight home cancelled! I'm looking for the meanest, shit-talking New Yorker(s) to bring me some Christmas cheer.

My flight back to NY was cancelled and I'm gonna be spending Christmas alone in Denver where everyone is too nice. Can anyone help me find the shittiest New Yorkers to listen to? Thick accent required. Mean-spirited mostly required. I don't really care what they're talking about as long as they're funny. Ever watch an Anthony Panza video where he's fucking around on the streets in the City? He's a real shithead and it warms my heart, I need more of that in my life. Thanks!

It might be OK if they're from New Jersey, I'll try to keep an open mind.

How to stop "play next" auto podcast queue in iPhone 14?

I recently upgraded my iPhone. I'm still able to manually queue podcasts I want with their "play next" and "play last" feature.

My problem: EVERY downloaded podcast is now automatically queued after my manually queued episodes. How do I turn off the auto-queue?

As a short term solution I've been setting a timer so the pods stop every hour but I'd love to figure this out.

Thank you!
