Looking for recs
Hi all,
Looking for some podcast recs. I am really picky about podcasts so have trouble broadening my scope. I like research based things, science, food, stories, music/ general history, and people just shooting the sh*t. I like spiritual/self-blooming type of things, but will immediately turn off podcasts that are single minded or say the best way to health is just trying harder or exercising at 5am and drinking lemon water (no shade). I like more introspective, queer friendly, community based takes to learn from, hear others, and broaden my own understanding.
Here are some podcasts I listen to, if anyone has any recommendations please lmk!
- MAINTENANCE PHASE!!
- Jemele Hill is Unbothered
- Radio Lab
- Friend Zone
- Oologies
- Gayotic
- Loud
- Duolingo (spanish) (also learning egyptian arabic so anything there would help!)
- Modern Love
- Dax Shepard
- LeVar Burton Reads
Would especially love some food podcasts that are more cultured, and not at all made with restrictive eating in mind.
Thanks so much, can’t wait for recs!!

Is there a podcast player that works more like Kindle?
Mostly if you are listening to something and you want to bookmark that part or maybe take a note, there are not many options to do that. Normaly you stop the podcast or, in some cases relisten couple of times and open some other app for taking notes.
It would be great if there's an option to;
\- bookmark things
\- collect them in some place
\- maybe organize them by epidsod/show/topic

Is there any podcast player that has that? I'm using Spotify and Podcasts apps, and it is not really possible in both of them.

Looking for a podcast that covers US History + crime mystery
Me and my girlfriend are going on a trip this weekend and will spend about 10 hours in the car. In the past we’ve traded off who gets to pick a podcast but I thought this time around I’d try to find one that appeals to both of our interests: I like anything history related, especially US history, and she likes your typical true crime stories.
What can you recommend that tells the story of a scintillating crime mystery with historical significance?

Why did Stephen Dubner leave the No Stupid Questions podcast?
There wasn’t any explanation given on the latest episode. It was just a new cohost with Angela Duckworth. Just curious as to what happened?

Appalachia podcasts?
My Instagram reel algorithm now features many small stories on the Appalachian mountains and I’m looking for recommendations on any decent podcasts about them. Mainly folklore, creepy stories and such but wouldn’t be opposed to history. I do love Lore and Radio Rental so something along those lines! Thank you ☺️

Podcasts that go behind the scenes on lawyers building a case, the court trial, etc.
I want to see in-depth and behind the descended what a lawyer does when they’re first hired, building a case, and then going through a court trial. It would be ideal if the court case was famous.

Help! Procrastinator seeking podcast recommendations to kick fear and excuses to the curb!
I'm an exceedingly skilled procrastinator. My expertise lay in 'getting comfy' and 'not starting my big ass project because i'm scared I'll look like an idiot'. I've managed to take procrastination and fear of failure to a whole new level, I'm tired of it.
I've got a few projects i'm excited to get off the ground but I'm treating them like a three-headed dog that's gonna bite.
I've done my fair share of reading/listening: 'Atomic Habits', 'Stuck' and 'Getting Things Done'. But i'm really keen to hear if there was a podcast that really helped you. Which podcast lit a fire under you, or was there an episode that flipped the switch?
I'm, baring my procrastination-filled soul to you, asking for your wisdom and recommendations.I'm all ears. I've got nothing but time on my hands at the moment.

Podcast Rec: Podcasts From Bands Currently Performing
I really want to find out more about what its like to be a band these days, but I'm having a tough time finding a podcast that discusses the life of being on tour, or in a band in general.
Quality isn't so much a concern, so a small time podcast would be even better honestly.

Podcatcher with < data scraping?
Pretty much what it says on the tin ^
Anyone found one? I’m looking for that unicorn of functionality + less to no data collection that’s funneled back.
I’m iOS (usually iPad, but good if my iPad and iPhone can have the same app).
Edit: would also love it to run on my laptop.

Medical case studies? medical cases? rare disorders, medical crime?
Looking for something along the lines of medical mysteries from parcast, or along the lines of even dr. death, Tylenol murders, bad batch, even trapped in treatment.
Can be positive stories of rare diseases also, doesnt always have to be a crime angle but thats most of what i'm finding, which is why I added in medical mysteries because it's not always a bad outcome, it's just rare disorders.
Thank you!

What is the best podcast for the History of the Roman Empire?
Looking for something with good research and storytelling, preferably good soundtrack and production… but the point is to make it “riveting” as the story really was.
Other recommendations for History and stories full of deception, greed and murder are welcome too, haha. Thank you!

Looking for good comedy podcasts like "Poor lil Thing"
I want to find more comedy podcasts that have more edgy/dark comedy, in a LGBT/socially liberal sort of way. I like a lot of riffing and gabbing between a duo that are actually good friends. I don't like the sort of comic that goes on Joe Rogan, if that makes sense... I seem to enjoy a lot of Canadian comics.I also really liked the podcast "edgelords" which may or may not help.
I keep finding things that don't quite match what I'm looking for. Thanks for the help.

Pls help me find this podcast show
I can't remember any names or the producers. Nothing... but I do remember like almost the whole story, so spoilers in order to help obviously...
This couple had a kid at one point and the dad came home and got drunk sent the babysitter home and their son drowned. Flash forward some years, they are still trying to work on things, and finally get to take this boat trip in like European waters... I don't remember any of the places they were near... but he falls asleep drunk whole his wife is already below deck asleep and they ship wreck because of a storm. They wash up on an island with a run down lighthouse and it seems like the whole island is unpopulated. Then one of them swears they saw man watching them, and runs off. They eventually stumbled on the house and there IS a man living there. I THINK the name of the man is Fergus or something I could be totally off.... but he has a boy and the boy doesn't talk. He told them his wife is off at work on their only boat and the ferry only comes once a month to drop supplies and he didn't know when his wife would be back.
This point is where the twist happens so if you don't know and wanna listen too when it's found, stop reading lol.
The man ends up being a nut, who like also washed up on this island, killed the original man who lived there, the other people he washed up with except the little boy, who's tongue he cut put. Now he wants the wife of the husband, because his either left him or got killed by him. And the wife and husband don't know this before they get in a fight and Fergus like tries to shove husband down a hole and he gets a broken and almost dies but makes his way back to the house, sees them eating dinner together like a family because the nutjob started to threaten the other guys wife.
There's a bit more but it also hasn't ended yet(maybe they released more by now) and I just can't find it, my old phone had it on there and I got a new device and I've tried finding it.
I appreciate anyone who helps. Thank you so much.

geology podcasts with good sound design?
do any of y’all know a good geology pod with good sound design? i’m not a geologist or a scientist so it doesn’t have to be a complicated one, but it also can be a complicated one too!
i just want like someone to explain to me in detail what an aquifer is or like how oil fracking works ya know?
(i just can’t pay attention to a pod when someone is just chatting at me or with other folks. like the nick zentner geology podcast? i’m sure it’s a really interesting pod but there’s no way i could listen to that for more than 30 seconds. i need some sound design/narrative structure or i get lost)
bonus:
if anyone has any particular geology episodes in their arsenal about texas (im moving to austin for school in 9 days!) i would think you’re super awesome and cool.
thanks for your time :)

History Podcast for father-daughter 24-hr roadtrip
Hey all, just subscribed here. I'm taking a long road trip with my 15 year old who's obsessed with history. Like me at that age, she has a (probably worth examining when she's older...) obsession with media that is heroic, tragic, and historic in scope. We watched the Ken Burns Civil War and Vietnam docs, Band of Brothers, a bunch of streamable WWII docs, and she loves movies of the Braveheart, Gladiator, and Last Samurai variety. Despite being a pretty politically active liberal gen Z-er, she has pretty suburban dad tastes
The only podcasts I listen to are Hidden Brain and the Ezra Klein show, but I know there's some great history stuff out there. She's very smart and well-read but would need some pacing for historical periods with which she's unfamiliar. Honestly I'm looking for a banger though, something that feels epic and thought provoking but also addicting.
Any ideas?

looking for podcasts about cults/scams/fraudulend spiritual gurus
what are your favorite podcasts about the topics mentioned above?
one of my favorites ever is Conspirituality, and although it is interesting too, recently they have been focusing on current American politics more
I would like to listen to something about famous cults or high control groups, scammy influencers, any sort of schemes, people pushing non-scientific ideas, mlms, conspirituality

some podcasts that I also listened to: nobody should believe me, believe in magic, the coco berthman story, the gateway, scamanda, trust me, cults to consciousness

i would be super grateful for recommendations, i don't mind podcasts which are now inactive either :)

thanks in advance!

What's up with these new UK feeds for iHeart network podcasts?
These new UK feeds have appeared for some iHeart podcasts. So far I have only found them for Ridiculous History and Stuff They Don’t Want You to Know.
But I am wondering what is the difference between the UK feeds and the main feeds? They seem to be the exact same with all the same episodes.
Does anyone know what is happening? Are they going to cancel access to the main feeds for us UK listeners or something? I hope not because I have marked all of my played episodes over the years which would suck to lose all this tracking.

Where can I listen to Life Scrapers podcast?
Life Scrapers: Tall Stories of American Lives by Matthew Brian Cohen was a great pod I listened to years ago and can’t find it any longer. If someone know where I could find it I’ll hit you with a big internet high five ✋
Googling it, stitcher shows they have it but an error occurs if you attempt to play an episode. Even on their mobile app.
TIA!

Where to start with Baby Geniuses
It's that time again where my main podcasts just aren't doing it for me and I gotta try branching out. Baby Geniuses came up on a search and there's already hundreds of episodes.
