THREAD Amorim's End-Of-Season Speech at OT: “First of all I want to apologise for this season. I want to tell you the good days are coming”

Post is being updated with new quotes...

Ruben Amorim: "I want to apologise. I also want to say thank you. I know it was really hard to support us in many games but now we have to make a choice – stay stuck in the past, fight each other. Or we stick together and move forward. Six months ago, in my first three games in charge, I said to you, 'the storm is coming'. Today after this disaster season, I want to tell you that the good days are coming."

# Ruben Amorim: “After this disaster season, I have to tell you, the good days are coming. If there is one club in the world, that has proved in the past it can overcome any situation, any disaster, it is our club.”

"Secondly, I want to say thank you. We are very grateful for your support over the season. I know it was very hard in many games.

Now we have to make a choice. Do we get stuck in the past, because this season is in the past, it is over.  We fight each other or we stick together and move forward.

Six months ago, I said the storm is coming. Today, after this disaster season, I want to tell you that the good days are coming. If there is one club in the world that has proved in the past that they can overcome any situation or disaster, it is our club.

It is Manchester United football club. Also, I want to say Sorry to my players. Sometimes I was not fair to you guys, but I tried. Thank you very much - see you next season.”

Press Con. - Part 2 Amorim to make public apology to Man Utd fans on the pitch after final game. ‘I know that the manager addresses the public. I will do that because it's the minimum. The least I can do is to talk with the fans and to say what I want to say. (..) An apology I think is clear."

Ruben Amorim's Pre-Match Press Conference - Part 2 | United vs Villa

Chris Wheeler

Amorim to make public apology to Man Utd fans on the pitch after final game. ‘I know that the manager addresses the public. I will do that because it's the minimum. The least I can do is to talk with the fans and to say what I want to say.

I will decide tomorrow. I have an idea. An apology I think is clear. An explanation? You don’t have time. I will be honest with the fans and I will say what is in my mind and what is in my heart.’

Amorim confirms he and the players will do a lap of appreciation. ‘It's tradition and we have to face it. I think it will be the biggest mistake if we don't do that. So we will do that because if there is a season that we need to do it, it's this one. We will be there.’

# Detailed Quotes

Amorim on Making the traditional season ending manager's speech & Lap of appreciation

"We will do that, it's tradition and we have to face it. I think it will be the biggest mistake if we don't do that. We will do that.

"I know that the manager addresses the public, I will do that because it's the minimal, the least I can do is to talk with the fans and to say what I want to say.

"[What will you say?\] I will decide tomorrow, I have an idea, so we will do that because if there is a season that we need to do it, it's this one, and of course we will be there."

Amorim on if his team selection tomorrow will be influenced by the possibility of last home game for some players:

"They will be there. But there's a fight and we are hurting by this season, but there's still competition in this league for the Champions League, and we have to respect the competition. We will be there with a strong team to win the game."

Amorim on if the problems he inherited at the club were worse than he expected:

‘It is really hard, I will not try to convince you otherwise,’ he added. ‘It has been a tough season.

‘The problems, for me, were deeper than I was thinking because I can watch, I can feel it during training at Carrington, in all our organisation.

‘Then it’s not the problems, but the instability in our club. Everybody is changing, all the departments are changing. In six months we are doing everything, so everything is more difficult.

‘I suffer like any Mancunian suffer to see all the things, but I think we are making some steps to improve things. You cannot see that because results are so poor, but we are in a better place, I can guarantee you.

Amorim on if he believes that United's recruitment is actually going to improve:

"Of course I believe and we are improving in those aspects. We are improving in the data that we want.

"We have a rule that it's not just a manager that chooses – it has to be a connection. There is no player that comes here without my approval but the opposite is the same.

"That is important for not just one manager to control everything. We are putting all these things to improve the recruitment.

"For me, the important thing in the recruitment is to know how we are going to play and that is really clear. You can point the specific players you want for those positions and we are doing that together."

Amorim asked again about speech tomorrow

"It will be an apology, I think that's clear, I don't have time for an explanation.

"I will be honest with the fans and say what is in my mind and especially my heart."

Amorim on post-season friendlies in Asia:

"Of course it's really hard. Everything especially after the final is really hard but we have a responsibility, we have to meet our fans. We are a global club.

"We have a lot of things - good wages, good life, a lot of supporters because we are playing for #mufc, so we need to give back, especially in this season, so we'll

future, be positive, because we know what we have to do. I know how I want to play, that is clear. All the mistakes you guys can point to me, I know how I want to play. Now is the exciting moment that we can change something."

Luke Shaw said after the game the players need to reflect on if they are good enough to be a Manchester United player. How many players in your squad do you believe are good enough?

"Again, we have this game against Aston Villa and we need to focus on that, this is not over. We want to finish in a good way in front of our supporters. So that is important. The rest? We are going to assess the squad, we know what to do - I will say it again - and the rest we will deal with that when the season is finished. The season is not finished yet."

You famously said when you joined here that you would have preferred to join at the end of the season around this time, I'm just wondering with the past six months and the challenges you've spoken about there, have you been able to understand the club or is there part of you that wishes the club had said: 'Yeah, sure, come at the end of the season'?

"In this moment I'm really glad I arrived six months before we start the new season, I think we're going to avoid a lot of mistakes that would be in the next season. Now is the time we can use all that suffering to change things in the summer, and when I say 'in the summer' it's not just the players. There's a lot of things we need to change in our club, so we are doing that, we did that for six months. We changed every aspect of our club. So I'm really glad in this moment. We suffered a lot but I'm really glad I arrived six months ago because it's going to help me a lot in the next season."

Did the Europa League final change your mind on any players? Did you think about the performance with a view to the summer transfer window?

"No, what changed is that it's one less competition [with no Champions League\] in the middle of the week, you can manage the squad in a different way. So that rotation of the players, the depth of the squad changed completely if you have four competitions or three competitions. That changed a little bit the plan, but not the way I look to my players, just by looking at the final."
