Photo gallery frontend with encryption and search

Hi. I want to implement an image server similar to Photoprism using ImageAI to tag images based on objects and context. However I don't want to spend to much time working on the frontend, at first I were thinking about using Danbooru and use Flexbooru or the web interface on my phone. But it doesn't have any encryption or password protection (since the purpose of it is to be used as a public image board).

So is there any good alternative for a photo gallery frontend with encryption and search/tag feature? Thanks in advance.

Any tips on setting up wger?

Hello I tried setting up wger following the docs.
Tried docker and bare metal setup.

Can‘t get either to run properly. Videos get 502, exercise names do not load properly etc.

Is there any working step by step Tutorial?

Or an alternative Project?

How-to Export Jellyfin playback stats to Prometheus and Grafana

I recently spent a few days trying to figure out how to export Jellyfin user playback statistics to Prometheus (and then Grafana). Jellystat and other dedicated apps didn't give me quite what I wanted, so I ended up combining the Jellyfin REST API, the Playback Reporting Plugin, and the Prometheus JSON exporter.

Getting everything to play well was a huge pain in the ass, but the result is stable, simple, and works extremely well. I figured other people might find this useful, so I wrote it up as a short guide:

https://sno.ws/jellyfin-stats

I also made a GitHub Gist with all the relevant bits in case you're not interested in reading a whole post. Hopefully this saves others on a similar mission some trouble.

What document management solution are you using?

So I'm setting up a home server for personal purposes, among which, storing personal documents/files.. accumulated over the years is now my next target. I've already had:

\- Nextcloud to upload/sync files from my mobile devices

\- Calibre to manage ebooks, magazines

\- Jellyfin to manage multimedia files, including photos

I'm looking for a solution to upload/manage documents. Could be my Ids, could be my rental contract, or recovery passphrases for my accounts, etc.

There are a lot that can be found from here:

https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted#document-management---integrated-library-systems-ils

But I'd love to get real experience and advice. Something that can run with docker and maybe, probably integrate nicely with the rest of the above stuff.

Do I need to worry about single-device network saturation with Jellyfin on an existing server?

I already have a home server, running various services, including Frigate which is constantly monitoring three security cameras (via ethernet).

I'm starting to look into the idea of ripping my DVD/Blueray collection and streaming it via Jellyfin, and that would likely be over wifi to the Roku attached to the TV.

My concern is whether this is too much bandwidth for one device. At what point does high-quality movie streaming impact the reliability of the security camera feeds? Is that line so low that it's just best to use a separate machine for running Jellyfin?

📢Cosmos 0.13: QoL holiday update!🎄 All in one secure Reverse-proxy, container manager with app store, integrated VPN, Monitoring and authentication provider now support stacks and more!

link: [https://github.com/azukaar/Cosmos-Server/](https://github.com/azukaar/Cosmos-Server/)

Hello everyone!

December is upon us and it is time for me to hibernate. But before, let me introduce you the last update of the year: the holiday QoL update!

Before I do that, I have started a product hunt profile, if you have a second please take a moment to support the projet: [https://www.producthunt.com/posts/cosmos-7](https://www.producthunt.com/posts/cosmos-7) :)

As a reminder, and for newcomers, Cosmos is a:

* **App Store** 📦📱 To easily install and manage your applications, with simple installers, automatic updates and security checks. This works alongside manual installation methods, such as importing docker-compose files, or the docker CLI
* **Customizable Homepage** 🏠🖼 To access all your applications from a single place, with a beautiful and customizable UI
* **Reverse-Proxy** 🔄🔗 Targeting containers, other servers, or serving static folders / SPA with **automatic HTTPS**, and a **nice UI**
* **Authentication Server** 👦👩 With strong security, **multi-factor authentication** and multiple strategies (**OpenId**, forward headers, HTML)
* **Container manager** 🐋🔧 To easily manage your containers and their settings, keep them up to date as well as audit their security. Includes docker-compose support!
* **VPN** 🌐🔒 To securely access your applications from anywhere, without having to open ports on your router.
* **Monitoring** 📈📊 Fully persisting and real-time monitoring with customizable alerts and notifications, so you can be notified of any issue.
* **Identity Provider** 👦👩 To easily manage your users, **invite your friends and family** to your applications without awkardly sharing credentials. Let them request a password change with an email rather than having you unlock their account manually!
* **SmartShield technology** 🧠🛡 Automatically secure your applications without manual adjustments (see below for more details). Includes anti-bot and anti-DDOS strategies.

ANYWAY! In this holiday update, I came back on the most demanded quality of life features on Cosmos, and finally got around to implementing them!

First: Stacks. Cosmos now supports cosmos stacks AND docker-compose stacks, so it will pick up your existing docker-compose stacks, and display them together in the UI:

[2 stacks in my servapps](https://preview.redd.it/qk9k4v6lch2c1.png?width=1107&format=png&auto=webp&s=34285129b12c60b08131d8bd9daabfc9efc552e1)

Click on one of them and you will get the details of the containers. You can start, stop restart and destroy the entire stack all at once as well!

Which brings me to my second points, deletion. Isn't it annoying to delete a container, THEN delete the volumes, THEN delete the networks, then the routes? Well now you don't have to anymore, as deleting a container brings up the delete wizard:

[This is so satisfying!! Wait... Did I just nuke my Immich instance for this screenshot? You bet I did!](https://preview.redd.it/sbkq0qipch2c1.png?width=1596&format=png&auto=webp&s=a88f3d309d105b9bf574a1ae2197410ccabbfb34)

Few other improvements went into this release but I cannot finish without mentionning, ICON EDITION! I cannot count how many times people asked me how to edit their icons... Well now you can actually do it!

OK! This wraps up the year nicely. Next year is full of exciting things and challenges, both for Cosmos and the selfhosting community, and I am very excited about it! I hope you are too!

Next year is going to be a big year, first the next update is the one where I will finally solve some existential crisis about Cosmos, where a few things are not what they shoud be because of the form factor. I might even end up take Cosmos out of Docker, in

Is there anything out there that's a self hosted Sharing Library for real world stuff??

Look I got a bunch of once-a-week tools and a bunch of once-a-year tools, and even once-ever tools (looking at you, wrench that removes drains from bathtubs).

I want to put all my TOOLS in an app or database that i'm comfortable sharing. Then define those groups - church people, work people, neighbors whatever. Then they can do the same, and say which group can borrow what. And do requests, sign outs, whatever.

But this could be huge. Because women especially will lend clothing, accessories, purses whatever to their friends. Christmas party coming up? Let me double check my friend's closet library. Stop fast-fashion, share!

Does anything like this exist? It seems perfect for many applications. Books, DVDs whatever! And you could add items with a picture, but also import from URL like amazon or whatever-- the way MEALIE scrapes recipes.

What are my options when it comes to port forwarding?

Hello everyone. Sorry, I actually don't know if this is the best place to ask this, so if anybody can point me to a better subreddit to ask this on, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm currently running a home Fedora Linux server that's really just hosting Jellyfin though Docker containers for my own personal home use (as is no port-forwarding to make it available outside of my network). I'm also currently taking a team Java programming course as part of my college curriculum, and a few days ago I was away from my house but was sent an issue that I desperately needed to fix, and all I had was my work computer that would have tripped the IT alarms if I tried installing an IDE and the Jave JDK, so I literally had to code in freaking Notepad (not even Notepad++) without compiling it to check for errors and just hope for the best.

I don't want to run into a situation like this again, but fortunately I found out that you can actually host a Visual Studio Code server where you have your IDE and JDK on your machine at home and access that from anywhere. The thing is, my parents are the ones who set up the router at our place and they don't know the router's login to even open ports. I could call the ISP and have them reset it, but my parents already think this whole self hosted server stuff is "foreign illegal witchcraft", so if there's something else I could do to make my server apps available outside of my network, I would much rather use that than. (It would be good to know in case I ever want to put it on a resume, too).

Specifically I would be using this docker container (it's specifically for VSCodium, not VSCode, (no Microsoft telemetry)), and, again, this is on a Fedora server, so I would be using and managing it through Fedora's web terminal and version of Yacht.

Any input is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Questions about caddy as an alternative to traefik, with docker, and docker-compose

I currently use docker-compose to manage a number of containers, and I've been using traefik as a reverse proxy and to interface with letsencrypt for management of SSH keys.

However, I've also been reading a bit about caddy, which seems like an easier alternative to traefik, in the sense of its handling wildcard certificates. All my containers have a public facing url, like this:

blog.mysite.org

mealie.mysite.org

nextcloud.mysite.org

photos.mysite.org

which I would have thought would be tailor-made for caddy. However, in my rough searches I haven't found out quite how to set up caddy to do this. I've also read (can't remember where) that this use of caddy is ok for homelab, but shouldn't be used for public facing sites.

So I just need a bit of advice - should I indeed switch to caddy, and if so, how? (All I need is a few pointers to good examples.)

Or should I stay with traefik, in which case, what is the easiest setup?

(I got some help with traefik a few years ago, but I'm having a lot of trouble now extending my current config files to manage a new container.)

I'm also very far from being a sysadmin expert, I usually flail around until something works.

Thanks!!

Struggling to install firefly3 on Raspberry Pi 4

Hi All, I'm hoping people who've installed firefly3 with docker can help me with this - my three docker containers (fireflyiiicore, fireflyiiidb and fireflyiiicron) keep exiting with an error code 159.

Before this, I had to manually specify platform linux/arm64 for each service in my docker-compose.yml before docker compose, without which I kept getting an error "The requested image's platform does not match the detected host platform"

Does it make sense to turn the Wireguard server off and on with such a bash script?

Hi,
when I am at home I don't need Wireguard, while when I go out of the house I would like it to turn on.

In summary by passing the mac address of my iPhone to the script, it is checked if it is present in the ARP table and if it is connected to the LAN by scanning with nmap. If I don't find it connected, I starto Wireguard. If it is connected, however, I turn it off.

I was planning to schedule it with crontab every 15 minutes.

Do you see any potential security issues with that? Could it be done better?

```#!/Bin/Bash
network=192.168.1.0/24
if [ “$#” -ne 1 ]; then echo Usage example: $0 aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff; exit 2; fi;
nmap -sP -T4 $network >& /dev/null
ip=$(sudo arp -n | grep $1 | awk ‘ { print $1 }’)
ping $ip -n -q -c 2 -i 0.2 -w 1 >& /dev/null
if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
echo Device is online \($ip\)
sudo wg-quick down wg0
echo Wireguard killed
else
Looking for a Google Photos replacement. This is my requirements list
Hi community, I am in the search of a Google Photos replacement. I want to self host it.
Been testing some options like PhotoStructure which looks promisiing but as it is developed by a single person its progress is very slow and its still missing a lot of basic requirements.
I was looking into Immich, its looking very good and being developed fast due to its Open-Source nature, but its pretty unstable still and I think it will require some time until we can find a usable product with certain stability.
I built the below list of requirements in the hopes that someone already found a reliable solution that could tick most of the boxes. Please feel free to share your thoughts and alternatives ;)
# Requirements for a reliable self-hosted Google Photos replacement
Web-Based Application: Accessible through a web browser, ensuring cross-platform and mobile compatibility.
Dedicated mobile app: This is desirable, but if the Web-Based application is well designed it could be fine without a dedicated app as we can always use PhotoSync to sync pictures to our servers.
Import and Deduplication: Ability to import from various sources (mobile devices, GoPro, Insta 360 X3 camera, drones) and an efficient deduplication system to manage duplicates.
High-Resolution Support and Previews: Display images and videos in original resolution with the option to create previews for fast browsing.
EXIF Data Management: Tools to edit EXIF information, with changes saved directly to the original file or a standardized sidecar file for compatibility with other systems.
Album Creation Without Duplicating Files: Create thematic or person-based albums without duplicating the files.
Advanced Search and Organization Features:
Face Recognition: Identify and tag individuals for easy searching.
Chronological Ordering: Timeline view for navigating through photos and videos.
Geotagging and Map Views: Display photos on a map based on location metadata.
User-Friendly Media Consumption: An interface that is intuitive and enjoyable for viewing and interacting with media.
Sharing and Collaboration:
Album and Gallery Sharing: Share with others, with customizable permissions.
Contribution Options: Allow others to contribute to shared galleries without the ability to delete.
Upload Functionality for Shared Users: Integration with apps like PhotoSync for user contributions.
Storage Management:
Per-User Storage Limits: Set storage quotas for different users.
Flexible Storage Options: Support for local storage (computer/NAS), as well as the ability to deploy in a Docker container or VM.
Privacy and Security:
Data Privacy: Ensure data is stored privately and securely.
User Access Control: Fine-grained access control for different users and groups.
Scalability and Performance:
Handle Large Collections: Efficiently manage large volumes of photos and videos.
Performance Optimization: Fast loading and processing times, especially for high-resolution media.
Backup and Recovery:
Data Backup Solutions: Options for backing up the photo library in an easy way.
Disaster Recovery Plan: Ability to recover data in case of hardware failure or other issues.
Integration with Other Systems: Ability to integrate or export data to/from other popular systems like Google Photos or Apple Photos for seamless transition.
Customization and Extensibility:
Customizable Interface: Options to customize the UI according to user preferences.
Plugin/Extension Support: Ability to extend functionality through plugins or extensions.
Technical Support and Documentation: Access to reliable support and comprehensive documentation for setup and troubleshooting.
Regular Updates and Maintenance: Ongoing software updates for new features, security patches, and performance improvements.
Cost-Effectiveness: Evaluate the total cost of ownership, including setup,
If you were scheduling both Duplicati backups and Watchtower updates to run nightly, which would you run first?
On the one hand, if I run Duplicati first, I can roll back to a previous version if there's an issue with an update.
On the other hand, if I run Watchtower first, I'm backing up the latest version.
Grimoire - Bookmark manager for the wizards 🧙
The time has come to unveil *Grimoire*, a bookmark manager designed specifically for everyone who is missing a little bit of magic touch when it comes to organizing their bookmarks.
Its mission is simple: to help you add, process, and organize your bookmarks in a way that makes sense.
## Reasoning behind the project[](https://grimoire.pro/blog/launch-time#reasoning-behind-the-project)
I've always struggled with organizing my bookmarks. Even though I tried many options, none of them really appealed to me. The built-in bookmark managers in browsers were too basic and didn't allow me to organize my bookmarks in a way that made sense to me. The most popular external bookmark managers have been too simple, too complicated, or too expensive for what they offer.
What I liked the most was the idea of having a bookmark manager with a relational database I had access to. This would let me retrieve my bookmarks in any way I wanted, and I could easily add new features in the future. I've searched for a solution that would allow me to do that, but I couldn't find anything that would fit my needs.
And that's how the idea of the Grimoire was born. I wanted to create a bookmark manager that would be simple to use, but also powerful enough to let me organize my bookmarks in a way that made sense to me. Moreover, I wanted to take SvelteKit and PocketBase for a spin, and this seemed like a perfect opportunity to do so.
## How it looks now[](https://grimoire.pro/blog/launch-time#how-it-looks-now)
Starting with v0.1.0, Grimoire has most of the basic features you would expect from a bookmark manager:
* bookmarks:
* can be added, viewed, edited, and deleted
* can be organized into categories and tagged
* metadata, like title, description, HTML content, favicon, and image, is fetched from the website and stored locally
* can have notes added to them
* bookmark list:
* display in a grid or list view
* can be searched by title, description, URL, and tags
* filtering by category, tag, and and more
* sort by date added, domain, and more
* users:
* can sign up and sign in
* all bookmarks, categories, and tags are private to the user
* admin panel:
* is used to manage users and see their bookmark, category, and tag counts
* can be used to preview most of PocketBase settings
* other:
* it's dockerized, so it's easy to run it locally or deploy it to your server
* all the benefits of a self-hosted PocketBase installation, like scheduled backups (local and to S3), high performance, and data security
* dark mode, because dark wizardry requires darkness
* responsive design as magic should be accessible to everyone, everywhere
* early and experimental support for AI-powered features (more on that in the future), like automatic tag suggestions
* and that's just the beginning!
## What's next[](https://grimoire.pro/blog/launch-time#whats-next)
It's still a work in progress, but I'm happy with the functionality provided so far. You can expect more useful features, like a way to import bookmarks from other services and export them to most popular file formats, public profiles, better admin panel, AI-powered features - just to name a few. For more details, check out the [roadmap](https://grimoire.pro/docs/roadmap).
## How to get it up and running[](https://grimoire.pro/blog/launch-time#how-to-get-it-up-and-running)
If you want to try it out, you can [run it locally](https://grimoire.pro/docs/getting-started/quick-start)!
## Contributors are more than welcome![](https://grimoire.pro/blog/launch-time#contributors-are-more-than-welcome)
To make Grimoire even better, I need your help! Don't be a stranger and check out the [contributing guidelines](https://github.com/goniszewski/grimoire/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) today!
What would you use to optimally store videos ?
Hello Everyone,
I'm currently looking for a way to optimise even further the amount of video file I have, I mainly store anime and series episodes.
Currently what I do is : Getting the video on my main computer (5800X3D + 1080ti) Convert it using Handbrake to H265 NVENC then store it on my server which is basically a Ubuntu server (i7 8700 no graphic cards) with mainly a zfs pool.
I'm looking to improve this to getting directly the video on my server, converting it using handbrake (I'm considering getting an intel ark card to switch to AV1 instead of H265) and storing it directly on it.
The issues I'm currently facing are mainly concerning Handbrake itself, the support on linux using hardware encoding looks limited I still have to make more testing but I was wondering if anyone got a better solution than what I'm currently envisaging.
Created an ansible script to setup my homeserver - automated creation of portainer stacks
I have been self hosting from quite a while and recently I had to restart my server. After restarting, for some reason portainer didn't recognise any of my stacks and all my stacks becaome "limited" and I lost all my docker_compose for all services. So decided to create this ansible script which keep all my configuration in one place in case I have to reinstall my server.
The script automates all my setup which used to take hours of work and now I can have everything up and running in minutes in case of failure.
I am currently working on backing up configuration files for all my docker services to Mega (free plan) using MegaCMD Backup, which keeps a rotational backup of the files ( last 10 days in my case).
Would like to share with all and hope to get some improvements/ideas:
Bitwarden Sync between two servers
Long time lurker, first time poster..
I was looking for something that would sync my self hosted Bitwarden server account with my vault.bitwarden.com account, but couldn't find anything that would do exactly what I wanted, so I wrote the following: https://github.com/martadams89/bitwarden-sync
It doesn't support Organisations or Multiple Users. It will export your source Bitwarden server records to a json - delete all records from your destination Bitwarden server, and then import the source records using the bw cli and then clean itself up.
I also managed to get it running in a docker container and have a docker-compose.yml file in the repo to reference.
Tailscale - completely noob question
Hello, everyone.
Sorry for being such a noob here but I am switching over to 4g broadband again next week and I have been told that I will not longer be able to remotely access my DVR or mini home server since the provider does not give a public ip address like a traditional broadband provider. Am I correct in saying Tailscale would resolve this issue somehow and allow me to view my camera system remotely?
I currently use dynamic dns, which I assume will now be redundant.
Thanks in advance.
[Release] MATER v0.0.13-alpha | I need some more feedback.
# Hello selfhosted!
Thanks everyone for the support and kind works, I've been working hard on learning all this new stuff. I really need some more folks to test out and give some use-cases. I have made it to what I need to use it for with the exception of a mobile app. Trying to find a macOS so I can work on an iOS app (any help with that would be awesome). I also need a few pointers on setting up a multi-users environment as I am only a month in the coding space. I am going to try to work on a home-assistant addon at some point. I would love an automation when my fordpass\_oil changes to auto schedule something in the next XX days or when my shelly need a firmware update!
Thank you all for the learning and inspiration!
