Suggest me a fictional coming-of-age book for a 20 year old whos lost in life
Would really love something fictional with some adventure and exploration thank you. Honestly any type of fiction is fine. I would just like something that can inspire me. Historical, contemporary, anythings fine. I have not read much fiction books, I have only read self-help, fantasy and sci-fi so I am open to any title. Thanks

Rich being being insufferable
Could you suggest me a book about rich people being insufferable in some kind of way? One of my favourite genres and I’m craving it lol.
Edit because for some reason the text on my first post got deleted: Something along the lines of ‘my year of rest and relaxation’, ‘how to kill your family’, ‘sirens and muses’, ‘the secret history’.
Thank you for some great recommendations so far!

Books about people who always feel like the “bad guy” even when they don’t want to be
i’m interested in characters who are always “the problem”, like someone who keeps ruining things, hurting people, maybe even when they don’t mean to, and then ends up hating themselves for it. i want something that doesn’t sugarcoat it but still treats the character with nuance and the character is desperate to be better.
bonus if it explores traits like intense shame, abandonment stuff, impulsivity, self-sabotage, emotional swings, almost like bpd-adjacent but not caricatured.
just looking for something that makes me feel less insane and alone.

Book that will help a 20-year old with an existential crisis
Preferably fiction. I'd like an inspiring story that makes you feel alive. I’d love to hear about books that helped people get through an existential crisis or rekindled their sense of purpose.
Lately, I’ve been feeling lost and disconnected from the motivation, energy, and creativity I had a few years ago. I’m hoping to find a story that can help spark something within me again, or at least put me at ease with my lack of direction and disillusionment.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I just finished Project Hail Mary! I loved it! I’m now back to finishing the last book of the Passage series. It’s hard to get back into it. I need something sci-fi and fast paced like PHM. What should I read??

Something like Becky Chambers’s Psalm for the Wild Built?
I’m looking for a sci-fi, fantasy or magical realism book that has some plot and drama and is somehow wonderfully uplifting. Or something like Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower…? It’s a gift for some dear friends of mine who are drawn to hopeful storylines.

Need suggestion for a crime thriller ( I am a beginner)
Guys, I am interested to start a crime thriller novel and looked up at Zodiac by Robert Graysmith. But the reviews are a bit mixed stating that he is too biased and his writing style ain't that good. So could you guys suggest me some good crime thrillers.
Ps: Read 400 days by Chetan Bhagat considering it as an thriller based on it description, but it turned out to be a draggy family drama.

Books that feel strange, surreal, melancholic
I really don't know if there's anything that exudes that kind of atmosphere other than a dream, but everyone sees different things, so I'm not sure we'd have the same feeling in mind. X-Files kind of captures it, but it's still too grounded. Any picks?

From a literature teacher: 4 books for 17-year olds.
For my classes next year I’d like to let my students choose one of four novels to discuss in a bookclub. I want the novels to be very diverse, with settings in either the 19th or 20th century and still be relevant today. I don’t want to scare them off with needlessly complex language, but get them excited about reading, and learning something about history and society along the way.
So here’s my question: what book would you put on the list and why?

Looking for fiction that’s hard to put down
Haven’t had the best year and am now lacking a pet to play with after work and in the evening. Looking to fill the bird void with reading, but I’m having a hard time finding a novel that is really engaging where I want to read more. I seem to be stuck choosing mildly pleasant books. Tried authors I like (Taylor Jenkins Reid, Curtis Sittenfeld, Renee Rosen, Ali Hazelwood) and new release but nothing.
I like general/literary fiction, historical fiction and romance. Some books I loved have been Demon Copperhead, The Grapes of Wrath, most Emily Henry, Christina Lauren or Abby Jimenez books. I also like Anne Tyler and Emma Straub’s novels.
Thank you 😊

Suggest me a book to keep me occupied in the mental hospital
Hi everyone,
I'm going to be spending some time in a mental hospital soon, and I'm looking for a long book to keep me busy for about two weeks.
I'm specifically looking for a fiction novel set in modern times. I would like addiction or family to be one of the themes. I also love road trip stories.
I love long descriptions full of ambient detail and atmosphere, in the vein of Barbara Kingsolver or Joyce Carol Oates. One of my favorite novels is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, and I'm looking for something similar: richly written, full of little details.
I'm not into science fiction at all, but I'm open to most other genres. I also don’t enjoy writing that’s too dry or minimalistic — like Cormac McCarthy’s or Sally Rooney’s, for example.
Thanks in advance for your help!
(PS : I know that A Little Life could fit all the criteria but I hated it!)

What’s the most unhinged book you ever read?
Today, my friends and I came across a book on TikTok called The Devilled Egg Made Me Do it by Holly Wilde.
After reading the synopsis… I just had to read it. For science. I was so curious.
I wish I stayed curious.

Immortal main character BUT NOT historical fiction
I am okay with flashbacks as long as you would still consider the book to be set in present day and majority of the books timeline is in present day

A nonfiction book critical of the US Military's recruitment strategy?
I'm specifically looking for something that discusses how predatory it is. How it is sometimes the only way for vulnerable youths with bad home lives to escape, and the propoganda it feeds youths for recruitment. Thank you!

Please help: Book to help let go of sexism, for men
A loved one (m22) has deep rooted insecurities and sexism. They want to let go of sexist beliefs ingrained into them (ex. the value of a woman = low body count, but not for men… low body count for a man = pathetic) because it’s starting to drive them into anger, depression, and push away others for nothing other than body count. They don’t know how/where to begin, and I don’t either.
Are there any books to help break this cycle?

NonFiction for HS readers
I am looking for literary non-fiction books for my high school juniors. Specifically, I would like several options that weave an individual’s story into a larger issue.
Some examples of the type of book I’m seeking (but that I am unable to use for various reasons) are
1. Anything by Krakauer (I am partial to Where Heroes Win Glory and Missoula)
2. Everything is Tuberculosis by Green
3. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
4. Radium Girls
5. The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down.
Would love as many recommendations that fall into this vein as possible. Thanks!

Novels for my mom confined to her small apartment
Due to some unfortunate reasons my mom can't leave her apartment and she is rightfully very depressed. She frequently talks about how others are travelling/having vacations and she watches everything from her window. It's not a temporary thing unfortunately so I thought maybe introducing her to novels that will feel like she has experienced something. She is not a great reader not at all so wr need something easy to read. Something that is not depressing, does not include any romantic theme (she hates it recently) and fun to read.
Recommendations are appreciated a lot

Where the fairy characters is an actual fairy ( preferably either YA or New adult)
Most fairy books now are men with pointy ears and abs ( not that I don't like that 😂) but I miss regular fairies too! Bonus points if it has pixie hollow vibes also romance is required as well!

like Dan Brown but good
Heya, I’m looking for novels about church intrigue that have Dan Brown level of detail but are rigorously researched, as actual church history is far more insane than made up stuff (although the connection between Da Vinci Code and the Cathar heresy is interesting.) A historical element about anything like the Cathar/Albigensian crusade, the Inquisitions, historic and more modern sexual abuse scandals, and anything else horrible churches have done would be great. Thank you!

Looking for a novel with a funny-but-unreliable narrator who has distorted memories or light delusions
I know this is very specific but anything similar will help!
I'm looking for a novel where the main character has delusional or distorted memories, possibly takes meds or has a vague psychiatric past, but the tone stays light, absurd, or darkly comic. I love unreliable narrators, especially those who present their own trauma through a distorted or theatrical lens, like they're trying to rewrite their past to make sense of it (or make it survivable).
