My friend is a mediumcore goof
So, coming from Minecraft years ago, my friend became dead-set on the idea that if you don't drop your items, there's no penalty for dying and so it isn't fun.
I have always played with a softcore character, and he insists on playing a mediumcore one. Luckily I convinced him to play with me anyway as long as I don't help retrieve his items. Or rather, don't help most of the time, because of course sometimes even he wants to continue progressing instead of bringing the game to a grinding halt.
It clearly makes the game less fun for him, and most of our deaths are in boss fights where the respawn timer does provide a consequence anyway.
And of course they've since renamed softcore to classic since it's the intended experience.
Ironically the only one getting any enjoyment out of his choice is me, because I get to laugh when he asks me to go get his stuff.
