How much can the Terrarian REALLY carry?
So, recently I watched the video by Throarbin titled 'Could the Terrarian Kill Minecraft Steve?', and like many others, I was annoyed by the assumption that Terraria's world itself was 2d like a sheet of paper, when there's no way that's the case. This got me thinking, since they did the calculations assuming the blocks ingame are paper-thin, how much weight could the Terrarian ACTUALLY hold?
I'd like to clarify a few things, firstly, no hate to Throarbin, even with that one big mistake, I found the video entertaining, and secondly, I'm currently writing this as I go along since I am incredibly bored and intrested in this topic, and I am in no way an authority on this topic, so I do apologise if I make any mistakes (It is like 4 AM as I'm typing this right now.)
The first thing we need is the size of each Terraria block, which we know is about 2 feet via ingame measurements, equal to around 0.61 M. I'll be making the assumption that each block ingame is a cube, since it would be incredibly weird if they werent. Using the volume formula for cubes (V= a^(3)), we can calculate the volume of each block as around 0.226 M^(3).
Our method of figuring out the maximum carry weight of the Terrarian is surprisingly simple. We'll be finding the heaviest material with a real world analogue (Using the Block Volume to calculate Mass), then seeing what stackable item requires the most of that material, and using that for the calculations.
One of my first thoughts was using the Solar Bricks as the item since the Sun is really heavy and they're crafted with Solar Fragments, but unfortunately this doesn't work as one would think. To calculate the mass of a block, you need to multiply the Density and Volume. The sun is only super heavy because it's super big, and it isn't all that dense at a pitiful 1.41 g/cm³. You could argue the Solar Fragments are heavier as they contain the fury of the universe, but you can't exactly weigh that, so it's back to the drawing board.
The Material Throarbin used in their video was Gold, which being a dense metal is a good choice, but there's a better, denser metal that we can use (Yes I know they chose gold because it's available in both Minecraft and Terraria, but since we're just talking about Terraria here, we don't have that restriction). The densest metal on Earth, Osmium, isn't in Terraria, but the third densest is, being Platinum at a whopping 21.45 g/cm^(3), compared to Gold's 19.32 g/cm^(3).
The question now is, how heavy is 1 Platinum Bar? Well, we could use the fact it takes 4 Platinum Ore to make 1 Platinum Bar, meaning the Bar is heavy as 4 blocks, but this doesn't feel right to me. I feel like the fact it takes 4 ore to make moreso is a sign that the Ores aren't pure platinum, and it takes 4 blocks worth of impure ore to get the material for 1 pure bar. We can instead use the simpler method of placing the Platinum Bar down on the ground, and seeing that it takes up 1 full block. Plugging the density of Platinum into the mass formula (M = ρV) gives us 4,847.7 Kilograms for one Platinum Bar. It sounds ridiculously big, and that's because it is! It's 8 cubic feet of the 3rd densest chemical element, after all, and it'll only get more ridiculous from here.
The stackable item that takes the most Platinum Bars to make is the Throne at a whopping 30! Yes, it looks like it's made of gold, but it can be crafted with Platinum too. It also requires 20 silk, but the weight of the silk will be negligable anyway, plus I dont think its even possible to figure out how much it'd weigh, but back on topic, each throne would weigh a whopping 145,431 Kilograms! This may sound stupid, because it is, imagine having to lug around a chair the weight of 23 elephants when redecorating your room, and god forbid if you misplace it, but it only gets dumber from here, as now we talk about stacking.

inventory slots where they can hold Thrones (Including the trash slot), and can stack up to 9999 in each slot. Multiplying these two numbers with the weight of one throne gives us the pants shittingly massive number of 74,162,393,019 Kilograms, but the madness doesn't end there. There are 4 types of Personal Storage Items in Terraria, the Piggy Bank, Safe, Void Bag and Defender Forge. Excluding the Void Bag, if there are none of these placed in the world and you're carrying them in your inventory, you have to be the one carrying them, so that's actually 198 inventory slots the Terrarian is carrying! With that new number we have the final mass of 287,924,584,662 Kilograms... Is what I would say, but theres one last step to this puzzle, as this is all assuming it's under Earth's Gravity, when Terraria's gravity is almost twice as strong (18.28 m/s^(2), as opposed to earth's 9.81 m/s^(2)). Since Terraria's gravity is 1.86 times stronger than earth's, we multiply our mass by 1.86 to finally get our true final weight of 535,539,727,471 Kilograms.
If you have anything to add, please do so, as its very likely I've missed something. I should probably do some calcs for Minecraft Steve to compare the two, but I am too tired to function rn so may do that another day. In conclusion? I just wasted an hour of my life and desperately need some sleep.
