What do you think Snowden's support for Zcash?
Personally, I do not hold currently any XMR or ZEC (although I have used the former and I plan to hold it in the future). Still, I do not know enough about ZEC, but the controversies associated with it, together with anonymity not being a default option, as well as it not being POW (the decentralization of it is in my opinion vital for especially a privacy coin), all of this makes me skeptical of Zcash. This makes me wonder why, out of all the people, Snowden would support Zcash? Am I missing something here?

why should I use a first party softwareor thind party software? why should use desktop clients ?
so basically I was browsing through thhe internet learning about privacy and came across some websites explaining how some changes increase my privacy . some suggestions were that like use some services like WhatsApp and telegram through the web version and not the app but on the other hand some websites me to use some apps like thunderbird but didnt explain why a app on my device is safer than using a web version of the email . for example i have a google and tutanota account . all the websites that i visited failed to mention why using thunderbird is safer than gmail.google.com through my web browser .
thunderbird was just a commom one . there were few others but i chose thunderbird for example cause it poper up more frequently.
basically i just wanna should i/anyone use a app if a web version of the service is avilable online ?
now on the mobile side lf things . is it really a gopd idea to use third party software instead off first party software ?
for exmaple , barista instead of instagram, new pipe instead of youtube , infinity instead of reddit. is it really a good idea to use third party software/client instead of the original app ?
keeping privacy a side , how do the third party software perform in terms of security compared to first party clients (like can they easily be hacked, can they protect me against dangerous software code or image or something sent through my DM/chats? and so on).
also do u guys know any any good YouTubers or blog posts/websites where I can get good inform on privacy and security ? I watch different YouTubers and read articles online but literally majority of the time I don't get enough information and sometimes the information isn't useful .
for example , I switched over to Linux 2 months ago and before switching over to Linux I browsed through many articles and all were full of crap . for example many articles where they mentioned Ubuntu and zorin Os . in majority of them Ubuntu was for new users and zorin was for those who were switching over to Linux from windows. now if we think about it logically if anyone is new to Linux then the probability are a windows user cause anyone who uses a Mac will probably not be switching to Linux cause either they are a apple fan boy or they are in the apple eco system or they brought a Mac for specific reasons as Mac systems are expensive and no one is gonna buy a Mac to use Linux on it . they have a another pc on which they wanna use Linux but it is a very small number of people . so basically majority of the people switching from a OS to Linux are windows users . so basically Ubuntu (for new users (basically the people switching from windows to linux)) and zorin (for windows users) literally are meant for the same use case and they(author of the article) failed to differentiate between zorin and Ubuntu . another example is pop OS . many articles said that it's a great os for gaming and mentioned the nvidia drivers being pre installed but forgot to mention about amd graphic card users .I came across many websites where they mentioned about the nvidia drivers things and literally mentioned "best for gaming" instead of a more appropriate title like "best for nvidia users" or something along those lines . they even failed to mention if pop OS a good Linux for amd graphic card users and if it was a even worth considering pop os if I was a amd gpu user .
there are some questions and the rest is just the issues I faced when looking for a product . thanks for listening to my complaints and would appreciate if u guys have any answers for my question that I asked I in the begging and sorry for my bad English . I am not a native English speaker and I hope u understood most of my points that I made .

Apple Doesn't Publish Permission Manifests? WTF?!
Since Apple introduced the "Privacy Labels" on the App Store, you actually cannot see what specific permissions apps request from you before you install. The Privacy Labels are just developers' rundown of their privacy policies without Apple's supervision.
If you expand the privacy labels by tapping on "See Details", you only get more labels, but no actual permission manifests. You can infer some permissions but not all. For example, you wouldn't know an app can access your precise location because Apple would tell you they only process and collect your coarse location.
Apple users: Do you know of a way how you can see the list of permissions (manifests) on the iOS App Store?
On Google Play Store on Android, you can expand the full list of permissions from all versions of every app.

Alternative front-end sites to twitter, youtube, reddit
I've recently been using a few sites that provide alternative front-ends to popular social media & I feel quite hopeful about them. Important thing to remember is that they are alternative front-ends, which still rely on the original sites/providers for all the content
twitter - nittler ( https://nitter.net ) - I haven't tested out logging in, I use it for browsing twitter without logging in which is something that on regular twitter you just can't really do
reddit - teddit ( https://teddit.net/ ) - note that I had to use reddit to make this post, the site seems to circumvent the issue of whether or not you can trust them with your login & password by simply not having a way to log in
youtube - piped ( http://piped2bbch4xslbl2ckr6k62q56kon56ffowxaqzy42ai22a4sash3ad.onion ) - just the fact that it's an onion site that lets me access youtube is pretty cool
I haven't used them for long but I really like them
if you just discovered something great - you're welcome
if you know more about them than I seem to - I'd love to hear it, can't hurt to be informed
in any case I say they're worth taking a look at

Question Use DDG App Tracker and NetGuard same time
Hello, finally i can use the DuckDuckGo App Tracker Block feature. The only thing is that I also would like to run NetGuard and maybe Orbot at the same time with DDG. Is this possible or now even uselles because DDG already blocks everything?
NetGuard would be really great to run next to DDG I would like to still disable the network for some apps.

Windows (10 & 11) vs macOS for Security & Privacy
Hi all,
Before commenting "Linux.", yes I have tried it. It does not work for me - I need some proprietary stuff. And to be honest, I just want to use my PC as my PC. Everytime I've used Linux it has turned into some kind of project to make it work for me. Not fun when I want to get stuff done.
Anyway, back to the question at hand. Upon my research - the consensus is that macOS is more secure and private. But I know how Apple is with marketing and how people eat it up.
I haven't seen this exact topic being discussed on this sub, so I am interested to hear what you have to say. I hope this post is allowed here.
Thank you and enjoy your day.

DNA Theft
Hello everyone!
The topic for my new video will be DNA theft. All aspects of nonconsensual DNA sampling and analysis will be regarded.
Recently, French president refused a Covid test in Russia due to concerns over DNA theft. Do you have any high profile cases of DNA theft in the past or present?
DNA theft is also used to implant evidence to frame someone for a crime or damage their reputation.
Here's an excerpt from an old article from Nature (https://www.nature.com/articles/nrg3113):
"Committing DNA theft requires little skill and modest expense. Whether the person committing DNA theft is a spouse who suspects their partner of infidelity, a parent who is suspicious of their child's paternity or a 'genetic trophy hunter' who is interested in a Hollywood celebrity, the targeted genetic material can be easily obtained by the surreptitious retrieval of a discarded cigarette or a used cup and analysed for as little as US$100. Although the prevalence of DNA theft is unknown, anecdotal evidence suggests that individuals can in fact retrieve and analyse genetic information from unsuspecting victims with ease."
This is will be an amazing research.
Thank you in advance for your participation!

Beginner Guide for understanding Whonix vs Tails vs Qubes OS
Hey everybody! As a beginner, it is easy to get confused when you hear about Qubes OS, Whonix or Tails. You may ask which one of the three is better? The answer is, they are made for different use cases and Qubes OS can leverage a Whonix Virtual Machine.
Virtual Machine
For anybody who doesn’t know, a Virtual Machine is basically another operating system in the one you use as your daily driver. So say you use Windows 10, and you open a program say for example Virtual Box that allows you to have a Linux based operating system inside your Windows installation.
It is like owning two computers and install on one Windows 10 and on one the Linux based operating system. The benefit of the two computers is they are isolated, and what happens in your computer with the Linux based operating system, stays in there and does not influence your Windows 10 computer. Now a Virtual Machine is a bit more convenient, you can have as much “computers” with as many operating systems as you want on one computer. No, why would you have an isolated operating system? There are security and privacy benefits. The Virtual Machine can be used to open a file, which you suspect is malicious. If it indeed is malicious, only your specific Virtual Machine installation will be compromised, not your main operating system. You can also have a Whonix Virtual Machine, which has the benefit that all network traffic is run through the Tor network, instead of just your Tor Browser on your main operating system. This brings me to the three – Whonix, Tails and Qubes.
Whonix vs Tails
Whonix only runs in a Virtual Machine, so you can’t download it and install it as your main operating system. Tails on the other hand is designed for the sole purpose of not leaving any trace on your hard drive, and instead it runs using your RAM. The latter means it is a live operating system, which in turns means every session in Tails will be reset when you visit Tails again. Both Tails and Whonix route pretty much all their traffic through the Tor Network, but Whonix has better defense against a lot more attack vectors (see https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Comparison_with_Others), in that regard it might be better for you, if that is what you seek. On the other hand, you could have a USB with Tails OS and plug it into a computer and do your stuff, and then turn off the computer and take the USB out and leave without a trace. Thus, Whonix and Tails are made for different use cases, albeit both run through the Tor Network.
Qubes OS
Qubes OS is Xen-hypervisor and can be used as your main operating system. The thinking about Qubes is as follows - the guys at Qubes realized that no matter how secure of an operating system you try to make, it is always easier to attack and find weaknesses in the system, than it is to defend it. A single mistake can compromise the entire operating system. So they let you run everything, from a Wi-Fi, USB and application in different virtual machines. Your virtual machine where you only browse the internet gets compromised? It doesn’t affect any other virtual machine. The Virtual Machines you have in Qubes can be Windows, or various Linux distribution, such as Whonix for increased privacy. Qubes divides all your things in compartments and isolates them from each other (check Qubes if you want to know how they do it, while still allowing you to maintain usability of the system for the user).
In conclusion, if I was a complete beginner I would start messing with Whonix and other Linux distributions to get the feel of it, and I would be cautious to immediately jump to Qubes OS (it is far from beginner-friendly). Qubes OS also needs like 16 GB (it is pretty much a collection of different operating systems), so not everybody can install it.
