P52 random fan throttling ?
So I got an excellent deal for a P52 and jumped for it, one month used and under warranty for 1/3rd the price.
So this machine is a beast but the fans go crazy loud at random when nothing is running, at the same time I could be playing a game and it'll be super quiet, which is super weird. I have no heating issues, which is great but I'd like to know if the fan becoming super loud at random is a common issue ? And any fix would be great

T440P randomly turns off!!
Hello everyone!
So I got a bit of a weird one. My t440p every so often (3-4 times a week under normal use and sometime just at idle) it just turns off, screen goes black no sound or anything it just dies, but then when I press the power button it just boots up normally. I recently upgraded from a i5-4210m to a i7-4700mq, before the upgrade everything was fine. It doesn’t have the GPU, battery is still is Good condition and the power supply is 90w. Any ideas??

tldr: Torn about upgrading my current T420 (which I'm fond of) and buying a new used machine or allocate my entire budget (600-700€) on the latter. I will have to use at least one of these laptops for front-end development. Gnu/Linux only.
Hi, I have 600-700€ to spend on new hardware. Keep in mind that:
* I live in Europe so prices are higher than the US.
* I don't like laptops with visible scratches or dents, so grade A thinkpads would be better (unless I can find some replacements and they are easy to install).
I already have a T420 (i52520M + 10GB of ram and 256GB SSD) and it needs some upgrades but I don't know whether I should allocate these money on a better machine. Considering the budget I will have to go used anyway. I have to use at least one of these laptops for front-end development, Gnu/Linux as OS. The other one for casual browsing and untrusted stuff.
The T420 display (900p version) doesn't blow me away although it's not as bad as they say honestly, both resolution and colors. It has a dead pixel that is not visible but I'd like to replace the panel to extend its life in case parts are not available in the future. I am very fond of this laptop and would like to keep it alive as long as possible.

Which one do you recommend and where can I buy a genuine display?
The other thing that is wrong is the keyboard, if I type too fast it misses some keys. I tried looking on Ebay for a [replacement](https://www.ebay.com/itm/162561308331) with the same FRU as listed in the manual, but I was wondering if these keyboards are all genuine and if not, if they are of good quality.
Otherwise, do you think I should invest my entire budget for a better machine and leave my T420 as it is?
My only fear about upgrading the T420 is that I might buy bad parts and regret it.

Can you somehow replace a stripped screw on a heatsink mount? (T480)
Replaced my single with double heatspipe heatsink but I have stripped one of the screws, I think I managed to at least screw it in fairly well and used a bigger screwdriver to manage that. But anyways, it is pretty stripped, PH0 just rotates like theres no crave, so even I somehow get it out, will I need to replace the heatsink on the next paste change, or is there any wag to replace the screw only as I have spare od those from the single heatpipe heatsink. Playing with the old heatsink now and it seems like there is no eay to remove the screws, but maybe I am missing something.
Also, how tight do you screw in, the HMM says 180 degrees upon touching on plastic to PCB, but this seems excessive.

The T14 baby just arrived. This is not normal, I didn’t expect it would beat up my 2000$ MacBook. Great display, great keyboard, AMD boosts in secs, great quality built, camera good, audio good. The only 2 things I’m really dissatisfied about is the battery🤦🏻♂️, and they touchpad which sucks.

T14 (Amd) Charging issue
I've noticed my battery not charging like its supposed to, what I've attempted doing is draining battery to absolute 0 and try charging, which worked for a bit. I've also recently tried holding down the power button for a minute with the battery disconnected, which appears to have solved the issue for now, but what other things have worked for this issue, as i do not want to send this laptop in if i can help it.
I am running kde neon with kernel 5.8.33 and when i cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status is reading Unknown when I plug the charger.

T14/S vs. E14 gen 2 (both intel)
Hey everyone, can’t seem to make up my mind on the T14 vs the E14. The t14 I’m looking at is the 10th gen intel version as it is up for grabs for 750$ on eBay meanwhile the e14 with the 11th gen intel chip is around 900$ on Lenovo.
I’m really struggling between the two because I want a high quality device that’ll last me for years to come but I don’t want to buy too old of a processor for no reason! Is there a significant different between the performance/quality of the two machines or does anyone have any insight?

T14 AMD British availability?
Considering my options after the untimely and dramatic death of my ThinkPad 25 two days out of warranty (taking a look at the board I am increasingly of the opinion that the CPU is fried as a result of the NFC module's death - I'll find out once my thermal paste arrives on Wednesday). One of the options I have is to go for a new ThinkPad. And the obvious thing there would be a T14. But there seems to be a problem - everyone seems to agree that the best T14 is the AMD variant, but I can't see it for sale anywhere in Britain; just the Intel one!
Any thoughts? Is the Intel one's performance that bad if I get the discrete GPU version (which I understand has better cooling)?
(One of my other options is creating a T480 frankenpad but I'm increasingly of the opinion that this would be more trouble than it's worth. I love the 7-row but maybe it's time to say goodbye :( )

I'm giving away 2 touchpads/clickpads - from my T440s and from my X1 Carbon 5th gen. They both have a small malfunction.
I had both of these in my laptops but replaced them because of small but annoying malfunctions.
The T440s one sometimes rarely does a click+hold when only clicking.
The X1 Carbon one sometimes rarely doesn't register a click (while physically pressing it down - not while tapping it, that works always).

I just got in my new x13. Two questions I'm going to upgrade the 256gb NVM to a 1TB NVM no problems? My second question is for dinner reason the keyboard is not backlight is there anyway I can switch that? Will it have any problems with my windows hello/finger print reader?

Lenovo service really sucks
So I invested all my savings as a poor grad student in a Thinkpad X1 Carbon thinking that it would be a good-tough machine, and a couple of months ago I started experiencing audio issues. First, it was low-quality sound, and then the microphone stopped working (it wasn't even recognized). I reinstalled the drivers, followed the usual guides, but the issue remained. I called Lenovo and they sent an onsite technician with spare parts. This technician didn't even know where the microphone was, so he changed the board and the speakers, and the issue remained. He then called someone who told him the mic was in the camera and was like: no wonder they sent a camera too, so he changed it... but while he was doing it, he broke the display!!!!! So he says: oops, this is something normal, and says he ordered the display and will arrive the next day, which didn't, I had to wait two more days. Then he changed that, but the microphone still didn't work. I told him that (he wasn't even proactive to check himself before giving it to me like it was ready) so he proceeds to call someone, and updated the system drivers. Also, he didn't even put the screen correctly the first time, and I checked and told him and he had to do it again. The original issue remained. He then says: "there's nothing else I can do, just reinstall your windows" and leaves. I then did the whole recovery of my windows, uninstalled and deleted everything from my computer, and surprise surprise, the issue is still there. I call again and they say they will send me a USB drive with the OS to reimage everything, but 3 weeks have passed and I haven't received anything. In the meanwhile, I sent a message to customer support (when they were asking for feedback on the service) and they said they were going to escalate the problem, but again, nothing happened. Since last week, the speakers stopped working. I tried to reinstall drivers, check the audio configuration, yadda yadda yadda... At this point I just want this computer replaced, something this pricey shouldn't have these issues. I call again, and they say it's unlikely I'll get it replaced since I haven't gotten service at least 3 times... but That's their fault because they have taken so long to reply! Now I only have 2 months left on my warranty and the guy literally said that it was unlikely because I have little time on my warranty., like... I'm not from here but I don't think that's how warranties are supposed to work anywhere. Anyways, he said he escalated the problem (again) and I should hear back from them in 72 hours... So let's see what happens. I just wanted to vent.

T14 AMD screen colors / brightness
Does the T14 display adjust based on the light in the room (the way a Mac does)? Sometimes, usually when I’m using the laptop on battery, the screen looks very washed out. Other times it is fine.
I have the 400 nit low power display and the IR camera option.

Anybody else have trouble with multi-display set-ups with the x390?
Hey! I've recently upgraded to the x390 and It's been great so far! I've just had a few issues with using 3 displays (2 external + the inbuilt display) I can only seem to use 2 at a time.
one is connected via a vga to usbC dongle and the other is connected directly to the HDMI port on the side of the machine.
Is there any reason this shouldn't work?
