Looking for a second, smaller Thinkpad (x390 vs x380?)
Hey y'all,
I'm a teacher using the T480 as my main computer, don't have a desktop, don't need one. I'm just doing office/school stuff at the moment. It's a great computer and does absolutely everything I need it to do, but it is a bit heavy with the 72wh battery I added, and while I do like the size, in general, I sometimes wish I had a more compact size that would fit better on my desk/lap/and, in my backpack.
I don't want to make any compromises in power, so something comparable to my T480 in terms of raw power would be nice, maybe even a step higher, so I was looking into the x390 at first but saw that they, overall, share the Intel® Core™ i5-8350U I have in my T480, so then I was looking into the x380, which seems pretty similar overall. I, preferably, wouldn't want to spend over 300ish bucks, so I'm mostly looking through Germany's version of craigslist. I was, briefly, considering quitting Thinkpads altogether and considered (I know, shame on me) buying an m2 Macbook Air. So please stop me before I make questionable decisions..
Any other recommendations?

Help picky Thinkpad-aficionado pick external keyboard
I have never been able to find an external keyboard that was good enough for me after having used Thinkpad built in keyboards for more than twenty years. I always use the built in keyboard, even when using external monitors, but I would prefer just placing the Thinkpad closed in the dock when at the office.
So, what external keyboard do you, fellow Thinkpad aficionado, enjoy using?
Cabled or wireless, doesn’t matter. In Europe by the way.
PS: I have the external wireless Thinkpad II keyboard already. It’s almost 1-1 very similar to the built in keyboard, but that also means that it doesn’t add anything, e.g. still somewhat cramped.

What are your opinions on the Lenovo P-Series machines?
I'm looking to upgrade my T450s to something with quite a bit more power. My old Thinkpad is fine, but I'm looking for something closer to a workstation.
I've been looking at used full spec P15gen1 machines which can be had for around USD600.
Any input on whether those are any good? Are there any known issues with P-Series?
I guess price wise a regular T14 gen2 or gen3 would be an option too, but having a QuadroT2000 does sound enticing. lol

Good Warranty Experience
Since there is a clear bias on every forum and website to talk and criticize the bad things and not so much about the good things, I'm here to talk about my great experience with Lenovo Warranty
Information: I bought my Thinkpad on Ebay and it came from the USA with Onsite Support
So basically my keyboard went nuts and it started to spam the \\ key without myself pressing it, so a message would look something like
\> h\\\\\\\\\\el\\\\\\\\\\l\\\\\\o,\\\\\\h\\\\\\\\o\\\\\\w\\\\\\a\\re\\\\\\y\\o\\\\\\u\\.
So i sent a ticket to support on my country on a Sunday night, by Monday I had an email saying that the parts were already being sent to a technician and that he would call me to meet me at my house or at a place I wanted and do the repair. He called me and everything went smoothly
We agreed on the Wednesday of that same week, on the day he called me to let me know he was there, he took out the new keyboard, the tools and did it in around 10 minutes. Really friendly guy.
I know a keyboard replacement is a simply thing to do but nevertheless I want to show that the warranty went smoothly. Just to break the negativity cycle :D

Looking for a lightweight thinkpad
Hi there!
I am looking for a thinkpad that may or may not exist, but...
From what I can tell the X1 seems to be the way to go, but finding one with a WQHD screen, and 16gb of RAM is not simple atm.
Was there any upgrade in design/screen bezel thickness between generations?
Hell, it may be a broad question, but what wee the but chabges/differences in Generations for the Carbon X1s?
Thanks! :)

ThinkPad Keypad lovers, how's your experience with mechanical keyboards like CosmicByte FireFly or any mechanical keyboard for that matter?
I would love to know if you feel ThinkPad Keyboards are better than Mechanical Keyboards. I don't have a ThinkPad Laptop with me at the moment to compare the two myself, I used to have one (X1 Yoga) for many years until last year. Thanks for the time, thoughts, suggestions, and help.
Some back story:
I recently visited an offline store with mechanical keyboards and 4K monitors on display for visitors to come and use. At first glance, I firmly held the belief I carried for years that mechanical keyboards weren't for me and I would never understand why thousands/millions of people across the world are big fans of these, but within a few minutes of typing, the transformation happened. Surreal. I started liking the keyboard. The one I typed on was CB GK 16 FireFly. I didn't like all the lighting and all, but I learned that we have software that comes with the keyboard that would allow us to choose only the white backlit we want (I'm not a gamer).

Thinkpad T410 battery
I bought a t410 with a deteriorated battery, the capacity is like 8% iirc. What battery replacement do you recommend?
I'd love not to keep it plugged in every time I want to use it and be able to carry it around to places without power outlets

X1C G12, anything worth waiting for?
I think I've decided I will upgrade my Gen4 to a Gen12. It's just a matter of when.
I can currently get it 50% off $1460+tax. Seems like a good deal. I don't know how thinkpad prices usually fluctuate. I def want my laptop in the next month or so, not sure if will drop that much again in a month.
I know there are more options due this month but I'm not sure what else there would be that I'd be interested in.
I definitely want the highest resolution OLED screen. I think the one offered now is the best that has been announced. I see in the parts page that there's one listing "8MP" so maybe there will be one with a better camera? It would be nice to get a better camera but I very rarely use it and can always use my phone.
The current 155H CPU isnt perfect and I could wait for the U CPUs, however, I think the MTL improvement is enough of a compromise to just stick with this CPU. It's better than the old P CPUs.
I think there's an option of a haptic trackpad coming but I typically use an external mouse and only very rarely use the trackpad if I need to do something quick with the laptop while my mouse is in my bag.
Anything else I might be missing? still no PSREF so it's hard to know. I would think that if there was anything significant, I would think that there would have been something in marketing.

Case for L13 Yoga Gen 4
I bought the L13 Yoga Gen 4 and its great but i want to have a good protection case/cover but cant find one.
I‘ve had an ipad with a great case, if i would drop it there would be no damage at all. There is also a protective cover for the MacBook for example, which you can simply attach to the device and leave on at all times. I want a similar case for the lenovo laptop. Is there anything like that?

LPFHD - a bit disappointed?
So I upgraded my T14 to the N140HCG-GQ2 400 nit IGZO panel. I thought I had been scammed at first, but after calibrating the screen the colors look good and the brightness improved too.
However, compared to the 250nit panel on my T480, the new panel is definitely better, but from what Ive read here, the difference should be "night and day". The colors certainly look deeper, but the brightness at max setting seems only a little bit better on the new Innolux - subjectively, maybe 20% brighter at best.
Is this just the way it is and I fell for the way internet tends to overhype things, or is it possible the screen is defective somehow? What were your experiences with upgrading to the 400 nit lphd? I don't regret the upgrade but I am just a little underwhelmed.

Warranty and Repair Issues: A Cautionary Tale for EU Buyers Purchasing from Amazon US
A month ago, I purchased a new, sealed T15p Gen 3 from Amazon US (as EU citizen), as this model was no longer available in regular Lenovo stores. I prefer the 15" size over the 14/16".
Upon checking the warranty status, I discovered that only 90 days of the regular warranty remained. The next issue arose when I attempted to extend the warranty using a fictitious US address. The Lenovo team declined it, even after payment. Naturally, I don't have a US address. However, I will consider using a friend's address for the next attempt, sending it to him and then on to Lenovo.
However, the cost of shipping the device to the US and back would be as high as repairing a potentially broken part in the future. Plus, there would be the hassle of dealing with Value Added Tax declarations on both the US and EU sides.
So, lessons learned, I can offer some warnings from this experience:
- If you buy from Amazon, you might end up with an undefined state of (remaining) warranty, even if the product is sold as new/sealed.
- You cannot register it in the EU Lenovo store for an extended warranty if it's sold for the US.
- Lenovo checks the address for extended US warranty.
- It can be costly to send it to the US and back via a middleman or friend.
- You may encounter issues with taxes.
The final question that remains is: Can I send a broken notebook, entirely at my own expense (self-payer), to the Lenovo EU Service Team after the warranty has expired? Alternatively, in the worst-case scenario, can I purchase the parts myself? Based on my experience with my last ThinkPad T580, I discovered that I have no opportunity to buy critical parts without a warranty contract.
This would render the concept of this wonderful, repair-friendly device obsolete.

Looking to buy a ThinkPad but I have limited knowledge on what would be the best 2 or 3 options.
Which model and generation would be portable and suited for schoolwork and programming with a decent battery life? I'll use Linux on it.
After a brief google, I'm considering X380 Yoga, X1 Carbon (Gen 6+ for sure), X280, T480s, T480, and T490, but I'm open to suggestions.
Requirements:
13-15" Display
Built-In Webcam
At least 2 USB3 Ports
Convenient Dimming i.e. (for working in dark environments)
Since I could install 8GB/16GB RAM and 256GB/512GB SSD myself, I would prefer customizable RAM slots but it's fine if it comes pre-installed I guess.
