P1 Gen 2 Linux Benchmark Request
I’m considering this laptop and am curious what the results are for a simple Linux benchmark either natively or in WSL2 for Windows.
Could someone please run:
sysbench --test=cpu run
And share your results.
Thank you in advance!

Appalled by Lenovo's post sales service. Not going to buy it again.
I received the laptop (configured T14s Gen 4 AMD) on 29th February 2024, only to discover a disturbing crackling sound coming from the hinges. I immediately reported this issue to the Lenovo Technical Team on 4th March 2024 expecting a swift and professional resolution. Instead, I have been subjected to a series of unending disappointments and a complete disregard for my time and well-being.
The promise of a replacement within 10 days has vanished into thin air. After making over 40 calls to Technical and Post Sales Teams, I was shocked to learn that a refund is being processed instead of providing me with a replacement. This is completely unacceptable, as it leaves me stranded without a crucial tool for my work, causing significant economic loss and disrupting my professional life.
I have been asked to provide the same information repeatedly, and I have been shuffled between different departments with no resolution in sight. This experience has been mentally taxing and emotionally draining.

Is a T480 i7 a good purchase
So basically, I need a laptop that can handle more than just basic ms word and pwrpt for year 10 and I found a few t480's in a repair shop with i7s. Or is it more economical to buy a newer one ( I don't mind getting new batteries or ram and ssds )

Electrical Engineering Student Advice
Hello Thinkpad users, I've been having a hard time to decide what kind of machine to get to finish out my EE degree. My university has some pretty stout specs that they recommend, being:
Recommended
Processor: Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7, 2022 or better
Memory: 32 GB RAM
Storage: 1 TB SSD (Solid State Drive)
Graphics: Dedicated graphics card with at least 4 GB of VRAM
Minimum
Processor: Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 , 2022 or better
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Storage: 512 GB SSD
Graphics: Integrated graphics or a discrete/dedicated graphics card
The recommended specs aren't out of reach for me price-wise, but my resources certainly aren't unlimited, so bang for buck with consideration for moderate future-proofing is a priority. (I know, want my cake and eat it too)
I'll be using some SolidWorks, MATLAB, LTSPICE, VSCODE, AutoCAD, etc.
The machines I'm considering are between the T14 and P14s. From what I can tell, they're basically the same laptop, but the P14s has the option for 64GB of RAM. Pretty steep price tag on the privilege to have an additional 32GB from the T14 (\~$500), but RAM gets eaten up so quickly in some of these heavy programs and multitasking. So maybe it'd be worth it?
I'm not super concerned about the lack of a dedicated graphics card because I know the Ryzen 7 has a good iGPU. I won't be doing any gaming on this machine. And I figure if I absolutely must, I could always get an eGPU, but I don't see that being a situation I run into.
I'm leaning toward the T14 and just maxing it out. Seems like pretty good bang for the buck right now, coming in at about $1260 after discounts for pretty much all the above recommended specs aside from a dedicated graphics card.
What do you guys think? I know there are some huge fans of the T480, and I would absolutely love one, but I think it would unfortunately fall pretty short. Otherwise, Frameworks seems to have a pretty attractive offering, albeit more expensive.
Am I overthinking this, or did I make up my own mind already? Sometimes a little nudge is all someone needs. Other suggestions are always welcome.

X1 Nano : I5 + 8gb or I7+16gb
Hello all, i'm in the final moments of my search for a new laptop and that'll be the X1 Nano
For the same price i can get an I5-1130G7 with 8gb of RAM or an I7-1160G7 with 16gb of RAM.
This will be a laptop for travel and be my main PC so my top priority is battery life and cooling !
Will be used for web browsing, youtube, films... But also sometimes for video editing, a bit of lightroom and a bit of sketchup.
So i want the best compromise for battery life but also not having a lagging PC as it will be the only one i own (im selling my desktop).
I'm sure the I5 can handle what i want to do with it, but i'm a bit afraid of the 8gb of ram.
While the I7 has 16gb, i'm more worried of the PC being hotter and draining more battery life.
What do you think ? On the reviews i watched, one guy with the I5 +8gb managed to get 12h30 of battery life, while another review with the I7+16gb got between 9 - 10h of battery life.
These are def good numbers for both but 3H more for the I5 ? I find this huge ! I thought it would be 1H max ?
What do you think ?
The I7 i guess with it's ram will be more future proof but if it gets hot and has as much as 3H less of battery i dont know.
Anyone can help me ? thankks :)

Which Linux distro?
First I hope it's alright to ask this question here because I would like the answers from ThinkPad users not Linux people.
I seen a lot of ThinkPad users with old and new ThinkPad using Linux so I am wondering which distro is easy one to use?
I tried Pop!_OS in the past and I kinda happy with it because it worked well and like the app store to find applications but it never really hold up installed Windows again.
I am a Windows user in life and in my work life I work with Windows clients and servers every day but I also from time to time do CentOS, Some Fedora, setting up open vpn and other things on servers. So I do know Linux but when I am home I want something that is easy to work with.
So I am wondering which Linux distro should I use on my T480 with i7-8550U, 32GB, Nvidia MX150 dgpu?
Because I mainly do streaming from Plex and I would like to have HDR and Dolby Vision video supported, other then this I use OnlyOffice instead of Microsoft Office.
My main browser browser is Floorp which also work on Linux.

Double NVME in T470?
Hi!
I am hitting storage problems on my T470. Got a 2TB NVME which is filled. Getting a 4TB NVME is quite expensive. But the NVME is in a 2,5 inch caddy. Somebody knows if there is a possibility to get 2 NVME drives into this caddy?
Thanks!

Slow BIOS Boot time
Hi,

i have a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad L15 Gen4 AMD. The Startup time till the Lenovo Logo appears takes about 10seconds! till the logo appears, the screen stays just black. The total BIOS boot time is around 13s.

I have updated the BIOS, made a power drain and resetted the BIOS settings to its default values.

I have a very old T430, the BIOS boot time till the windows boot loader appears is around 3 seconds.

Anyone else has the same issues? What cpould help to speed up the boot time?

Thanks

Best old thinkpad in 2024
Since September I've been getting into the linux world, and I've been reading for some time now people talking about the "thinkpads", and I'm looking for one where I live. There are plenty of models, I especially like the 4:3, but I wanted to ask the community, what do you think is the best option to download a fairly light linux in 2024.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Thinkpad for game development?
Will be travelling a lot and I want the ability to make games whilst doing that. Currently I own an x1 carbon (6th Gen), 16GB RAM and integrated graphics for less demanding work. Love how compact it is as well.
So, ideally looking for a ThinkPad with alot more RAM and a dedicated GPU. Will probably do some gaming on it as well.
I have taken a look at the P series and I see alot of overheating issues with the intel CPUs and quite frankly overwhelmed with the options they have. So I was hoping for a recommendation
