Thinkpad T14s still worth it?
I‘m currently searching for a new Laptop and wanted to give the thinkpads a chance.
I could buy a t14s gen 1 (used) for 440€
Specs:
14 IPS 1920x1080 400nits Display
AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 4750u (8 Cores, 16 Threads)
1TB NVMe SSD
32GB Ram
Akku capacity 83,7% (57 wh Akku)
I‘m studying cs and I need the ThinkPad for programming etc, a little bit gaming when I‘m on the way (or when I‘m at my Semester abroad next year).
Is this a good choice and is it a good deal for the price?
Edit: I want to use the laptop for minimum the next ~4 years, would be good to use it longer.

4k monitors - ultrawide or two smaller ones?
I need to begin getting parts for my new desk setup, and am torn between the ultrawide or two ~30” 4k screens. I am not a gamer, and am leaning toward the two smaller ones for window management. Anyone went from two to one larger one and are happy with the results?
Thanks

Has anyone here ever played Trackpoint Defender?
> Introducing TrackPoint Defender, a shoot ‘em up made by employees from the Yamato Research Institute, developers of the ThinkPad.
> TrackPoint Defender is on a mission to showcase the versatility of the ThinkPad TrackPoint to as many people as possible.

I discovered it a while back (link), but have never been able to get it to work in either Chrome or Firefox.
Has anyone here ever played it? I don't think they marketed this like at all, lol, I see no discussions about it on the web.

Play some games on Thinkpad.
I have a Thinkpad T14s Gen4 with Intel i5 and 32GB of RAM. I want to play Hearthstone and League of Legends sometime. I know Thinkpad is not for games but is it okay to play some basic games like Hearthstone and League of Legends? I have tested my laptop on low setting, it gets hot a little bit. I worry about the GPU because it is integrated with the CPU and the GPU memory is not sufficient. I worry that I will burn the laptop in the future if I keep playing these games

Device upgrade
I've been using x270 for about four and a half years now. It's been my favorite BAD boy. I've been using almost everyday and quite violently in the recent year/s or months.
And by violent, i mean: opening 3 different google chrome accounts, with 10 windows with each 5 or dozens tabs, while playing music, running reference managers, words, slides, excels, while opening tabs of pdf on explorer and sometimes a movie is on pause and I'm downloading something with torrent. occasional data processing and video editing (which often crash). I put in on sleep mode most of the time because of my flexible schedule, but also a lot of works.
Currently looking for another device since mine is on repair. I'm eyeing on T480 for another bad boy or T14 gen 2 AMD, both second. However, I'm also considering getting a new MBA M1 or second MBP M1. The only major turn offs from my thinkpad are the battery and HEAT. For context, I've swapped the 3 cell with an original 72wH 6 cell. Other than that, I have zero complain.
Consideration:
T480 is upgradeable, similar or better quality like my previous one, like a tank, external battery.
Cons: refurbished (afraid of the miss & hit), fake external battery (the original is already discontinued) that only last 2-3 hours.
T14 gen 2 AMD Ryzen 5/7
Decent upgrade, way better processor, has thunderbolt charging (not sure how fast), battery last longer, lighter.
Cons: no external battery, may degrade with usage, not upgradable, bit of screen defect (blotch).
MBA1
Fixed all my complains with thinkpad. Battery, weight. Better graphic. Sleep mode. More presentable and portable. I love a sleek look and would like to try working outside more.
Cons: the serviceability, expensive to repair, not a tank, possible compatibility issue, dongles and fancy accessories.
All in all, i need it to be as strong to multitask and at least lower heat. With Mac, it'd allow me to explore designing and editing.
Alternatively, I may still consider purchasing Mac later for designing and convenience when working outside. No charger, no worry.
Any thought? open for any alternative or brand

X280 Touch lcd assembly on X270
Wanted to upgrade the lcd of my old X270 and ran across a complete lcd assembly with touch for the X280.
Anyone try if it fits? I know the lcd panels fit between the non touch 270/280 but never tried a complete assembly, nor a touch assembly.

My first ThinkPad and my experience in buying from eBay International and shipping to India. Am I one of you now?
Hello, everyone!
I wanted to find a lighter laptop than my Asus TUF F15, which is good but too heavy. I also don't really need a dedicated GPU for what I do. So, I looked online for an older, cheaper Lenovo ThinkPad T14 or T14s.
I couldn't find any Gen 2 or newer models for sale in India. Then, someone here suggested trying eBay. I was worried about extra customs fees, but I went for it anyway. I found a good deal on a used ThinkPad T14s Gen 2 with decent specs for $350, 16 gigs of RAM, and 256 gigs of storage. With shipping, it cost me $445.55 in total.
I ordered it on February 15 and got it on March 15. When it arrived, I had to pay about $182 in customs fees, which was a lot! So, the total cost was around $627. That's way more because of the customs, but the laptop still has a warranty until September 2025. I'm also planning to upgrade its storage.
Even though I ended up paying more than I expected, I think it was still a better deal than buying a refurbished one here in India. Now that I have this ThinkPad, do I count as a member of this group?

Final note: If you are from India and want to buy something from eBay, remember you'll need to pay the highest possible customs duty on the product.

Which Linux distro?
First I hope it's alright to ask this question here because I would like the answers from ThinkPad users not Linux people.
I seen a lot of ThinkPad users with old and new ThinkPad using Linux so I am wondering which distro is easy one to use?
I tried Pop!_OS in the past and I kinda happy with it because it worked well and like the app store to find applications but it never really hold up installed Windows again.
I am a Windows user in life and in my work life I work with Windows clients and servers every day but I also from time to time do CentOS, Some Fedora, setting up open vpn and other things on servers. So I do know Linux but when I am home I want something that is easy to work with.
So I am wondering which Linux distro should I use on my T480 with i7-8550U, 32GB, Nvidia MX150 dgpu?
Because I mainly do streaming from Plex and I would like to have HDR and Dolby Vision video supported, other then this I use OnlyOffice instead of Microsoft Office.
My main browser browser is Floorp which also work on Linux.

Double NVME in T470?
Hi!
I am hitting storage problems on my T470. Got a 2TB NVME which is filled. Getting a 4TB NVME is quite expensive. But the NVME is in a 2,5 inch caddy. Somebody knows if there is a possibility to get 2 NVME drives into this caddy?
Thanks!

Slow BIOS Boot time
Hi,

i have a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad L15 Gen4 AMD. The Startup time till the Lenovo Logo appears takes about 10seconds! till the logo appears, the screen stays just black. The total BIOS boot time is around 13s.

I have updated the BIOS, made a power drain and resetted the BIOS settings to its default values.

I have a very old T430, the BIOS boot time till the windows boot loader appears is around 3 seconds.

Anyone else has the same issues? What cpould help to speed up the boot time?

Thanks
