Suggestions for my First thinkpad
Hi guys, I was involved in web development and martech for more than 10yrs, and I was freelancing for the last One.
After many years on hackintoshs(from the Company i was working for) and MBP, I'm currently riding a Mac mini M4 24gb as Daily driver.
But my Battle laptop (mbp2017 15") its not enough anymore.
I was thinking of replacing It with an X1 carbon gen 9, or a t14s, both with 11th gen i5 and 32gb RAM.
I used a lot debian on raspberry with many projects, and Ubuntu (only cli) on many vps, so I feel pretty confident with Linux.
So: I Need something that Is cheap and light enough to be carried everywhere.
Any suggestion or advices for a beginner with thinkpads and Linux as desktop system? Which model? Which distro? Thanks!

Picked up a ThinkPad on eBay for $1199 and the seller included the serial, so I checked it on Lenovo’s site. The price wasn’t anything wild — it just seemed like they didn’t fully factor the actual configuration into what they listed it for.
Turned out to be an executive‑tier Aura model with:
– Core Ultra 7 268V
– 32GB LPDDR5X
– OLED
– Haptic touchpad
– Samsung Gen 5 SSD
– Battery cycle count: 2
– 3‑year Premier Support Plus
I took the gamble and honestly, it looks brand new — doesn’t seem like it ever got deployed.
For anyone outside the ThinkPad bubble: Premier Support Plus is basically Lenovo’s “executive VIP” package — accidental damage, on‑site repairs, priority support, next‑business‑day everything, even battery replacement.
This is also my first non‑MacBook in over a decade, and after a day with it I get why people swear by these. It’s super light, feels incredibly solid, the OLED screen is great, and now I understand the keyboard hype — I’ve never had a typing experience this smooth.
Anyone else run into something like this? I feel its such a solid deal or did i get lucky

Hey everyone, the answer might be obvious, but just to reminisce and share experiences: do you prefer the old ThinkPads, or do you think the newer ones are actually better?
P.S. I had already fixed the slow SSD issue on my ThinkPad T430, but unfortunately I ended up selling it to buy the T14 (as you can see in the picture).
