My first Thinkpad! L14 Gen 3 AMD + Questions

After months of not having a PC for myself i got my first ThinkPad....(i also have a question plZ read)
In the subway station....
Back home
And holy shit it is nice.
After looking for a job for over a year and finally getting one, i saved up enough for a T480 which was posted on FB Marketplace by a local electronics shop for 95000 CLP (about 96 USD), which was listed as having both batteries dead, but other than that it just had usual wear and tear.....almost no scratches though (I plan on getting a skin, a backlit keyboard and a glass trackpad so i dont really mind). It came with an HDD as the boot drive though (its seriously being a bottleneck), but i already bought a 2230 256 gb nvme locally + a 2230-to-2242 adapter and a internal battery from AliExpress which is on the way,
First thing i noticed when i first held this guy is the build quality.....i already heard these things are meant to be tanks but holy shit its better than i thought. This thing is made beautifully, compared to my good ol' Inspiron 3421 (which i sold for parts after using it for the last 7 or 8 years) and the (more modern) Asus Vivobook X1605ZA i've been sharing with my dad this last year this feels way more compact, sturdy and even heavier, you can almost not bend it, and the matte, kinda rough finish on the palmrest and the somewhat rubberized top lid all feel pretty premium. If you only ever used consumer laptops like me, i tell you, this is a big upgrade.
Speaking of performance, im satisfied, even before upgrading this with an SSD, which btw, other than the HDD this came with the usual i5 8250U and 8 gigs of ram. I dont really run too-heavy stuff, but for my use case its more than enough for (hopefully) the next decade. I ran vanilla Minecraft, which is supposed to be an unoptimized mess (absolutely no mods, version 1.19.4 and on a pretty advanced and heavy survival world to be specific) at 60 fps just fine. For comparison, my little Inspiron (which had a i5 3337U, ssd and 8 gigs of ram) couldnt even do 15 fps.......i also ran GTA 4 and 5 and Counter Strike 2 and all are playable on low settings at about 30 fps (i think)
As someone who likes to tinker with the tech she owns, all the mods and upgradeability were also a selling point for me, and i plan to eventually max this thing out over the next year. After the ssd ima go for some ram, and after that ill try to go for a display (this came with the fearmongered 768p TN panel, but i almost always used these kinds of displays so honestly im unbothered by it). Its going to be fun.
I have a question tho; its ok if, while im waiting for my battery to arrive, to disable thunderbolt from the bios to avoid the bug? Cuz the drivers werent updated when i got this, i tried updating them and the installer already warned be about having a charged battery, i did it anyway and the computer just shut off before rebooting, probably because it has to temporarily disable the charging ports or smth. I got scared thinking i bricked something, but thankfully the port still works.
TL;DR: I love it.

What's up with the newer Thinkpads not having upgradable RAM?
So I bought myself a used L390 about 2 years ago and really liked it. For some stupid reason, I spent $60 Canadian to get 2x16GB for the RAM. Did I need it? No but I'm dumb and big RAM = Big work right?
Recently I've been wanting get a used laptop for my brother. Was looking at Dell Latitude 5420 because its i5-11th and it has Iris Xe. I would have liked a Ryzen instead but whatever.
Then I find out that Thinkpads have Ryzens. So I found an L13 Gen2 with a Ryzen 7 5850U with 16GB RAM. I'm like cool, its almost like mine, and I can upgrade the RAM later. I look it up and the RAM is soldered. And seems like they never even offered more than 16GB of RAM to begin with.
Then I found some T14 Gen3 Ryzen 5 6650U, then I realized those are also all 16GB soldered. I saw some Intel versions and those seem to sometimes have one slot open and the rest is soldered, and I heard the battery life on the Intel versions sucked compared to the AMD version.
I heard the newer Ryzen use the LPDDR which only come in soldered, but the Intel versions seems quite disappointing too.
The lack of RAM upgrades is really disappointing. I've also seen some where you can't change the wifi card either.
Now I'm having seconds thoughts about a thinkpad because if my brother or his kids play games the 16GB could be quite limiting since it is shared with the iGPU.

Old IBM Desktop Wallpaper Upscaled/Enhanced w/ ChatGPT (Image Upscaler Pro)
This wallpaper is the one I was most familiar with (IBM consulting since '07), as it was the default wallpaper for the thinkpads we were issued.
I randomly felt like changing my wallpaper today, saw this old desktop wallpaper image in my gallery and started feeling nostalgic. Searching thru this sub, I couldn't find this exact wallpaper to see if anyone had tried to enhance it, making it suitable for larger monitors. Sharing it with you all in case this is the wallpaper you used back in the day.
I'd be grateful if anyone can improve it, or even recreate it to make it better. The lighter shades of blue are almost white, and wish it could be darkened a bit. It'd also be nice to use the color scheme in the 3rd image (black/white) as ChatGPT was able to create greyscale (4th image), but couldn't do black/white (image ended up mostly black).
PS: I sure felt old when some of the posts I read were referring to the LENOVO ThinkPad wallpapers as "vintage". How time flies.
Original wallpaper I found \(\\"IBM Wallpaper by Norbert70\\"\)
