A Message Regarding the 12.0.5 Launch

The 12.0.5 patch launch was not up to our standards, and we know this disrupted your time and caused justified frustration.

The team has been working around the clock since launch to stabilize the game and fix the biggest issues players were hitting right away: see our hotfixes update here and our posts on the Bonus Roll issue here and here.

The team is taking lessons learned from this launch to help ensure this doesn't happen again. We will also work harder to communicate openly, early, and often when a launch doesn't go as expected: the known issues we're working on, fixes as they roll out, and any other information that would be useful to our community as problems are worked on and solved.

We care deeply about this game, and we play it right alongside you. We will do better.

Thanks for sticking with us,
The World of Warcraft Team

I can't find Glacial Spike in my spellbook!!

This is really confusing. I was having a great time playing Frost Mage. It was really nice being able to open up almost every fight in the open world or M+ with a Glacial Spike and Ice Lance, but now I can't anymore!

I tried finding Glacial Spike in my spellbook and now it's not there!! Did they remove it??? a bug they will fix later perhaps?

As Outlaw, I’m now annoying in Mythic+

I know many of you likely don’t know or play M+ with any Rogues, but if you do, you’ve likely learned we have a new smoke effect that drops when we blow our cooldowns.

It’s huge, all party members can see it, it’s hard to see shit on the ground, and it lasts for 10s. It annoys everyone and PUGs are already complaining at me. Heck, even guildmates are teasing.

They really need to make this more transparent. Luckily no one can see it when we are in raid, just M+. As if we need another reason not to get accepted into groups. Luckily it’s at least a dps boost for the least played spec!

inventory pass would catch.
* A stat weighting pass that inverts a class's gearing priority should not ship without someone equipping the set and running a dummy.

I'm gonna pause here to let some of this sink in, and i don't think this is the entire list, this is just the snippet I talked through with my guild last night.

No one is asking for a zero-defect patch. We can agree thats unreasonable and nobody is pretending otherwise. We the playerbase are asking for the following:

* **A candid accounting** of how this many surface-level defects reaches live simultaneously, including what changed in the QA pipeline between previous content patches and this one.
* **Transparent hotfix cadence** for the class and consumable bugs listed above, with named ETAs rather than "soon."
* **Confirmation that the Decor Duels mode will be held accountable to its own design.** If Hunters can track disguised players and good hiders get auto-disqualified, the mode is not ready for matchmaking rewards.
* **Public clarity on the role of automated tooling in 12.0.5 testing.** If automation and AI tooling was leaned on more heavily for this release, we want to know, and we want to hear how it is being re-balanced against human play-testing going forward.

The community's goodwill is not infinite, but it is real. We notice when Blizzard ships cleanly, and we notice when it does not. Patch 12.0.5 did not, and it is not failing quietly.

Please take this seriously. We are writing because we want this game to be functional and good.

Respectfully,
The introvert who's been playing this since beta.

Edit: One clarification: What's missing here from blizzard is accountability for why reported bugs ship, this is a pipeline question, not a ticket question. This letter is an attempt to raise that question publicly because the private channels for doing so have not worked.

The Prey System should be the Player versus their Prey, not the Player versus Astalor feat. their Prey

Let me explain: Most Preys, especially Nightmare Preys, can be summarised as such: Farm traps, survive Astalor screaming at you, occasionally see your actual Prey and do a prey world quest (optional)

More often than not, we are fighting Astalor's felweed addled demands instead of our actual Prey, who's probably looking down at us like we're some crazed lunatics trying to serve an ever crazier lunatic.

What if instead of the general affixes that we have to deal with that are Astalor-themed, we get actual prey-themed affixes unique to a specific Prey type. Rather than being told by Astalor to kill something for him, we must actually play around our Prey's movements, ambushes and tactics to best them. I have a list of example affixes for three Prey-types prepared: The Farstriders; the Dominaar; and the Gnomes

Most of these affixes have two possible ways of playing around them, an easy one and a hard one with the latter providing the player with bonus Prey Progress if done successfully.

The Farstriders
Since they are the best that Silvermoon has to offer when it comes to guile, wilderness training and archery, why not play around the idea that we are hunting the hunter.
On occasion our Farstrider Prey reveals themselves from afar, preparing to line-up a devastating shot. The player has two ways of countering this - break line-of-sight (easy) or break the distance and catch their prey before they do their shot.

The Farstriders can also command Dragonhawks to attack you. Once in a while, whenever you pull an enemy, an Elite Dragonhawk may also spawn, forcing you to fight outnumbered.

The Dominaar
Dominaar, our lovely blueberry nemesis. They may sometimes appear near you with a hefty shield, channelling a beam of concentrated void energy at you for a few seconds which you need to avoid. You can either dodge them until the beam ends (easy) or break their shield to cancel the beam early (hard)

Every now and again a rift may appear near you, pulling you towards it. Simply run away from it to avoid taking heavy damage.

The Gnomes
Finally the Gnomish Tinkers. WoW's technology could allow for so many fun ideas that we could play around with. For example the Gnome prey could spawn and throw a bunch of short-fused bombs at you that you need to avoid (easy) or interact with before they blow up to toss them back at your prey (hard)

They may also cast a shrinkray at you, debuffing you temporarily while you're in combat. Really prove themselves as a nuisance as you hunt them.

There are so many other Prey-types out there and it is a real shame the system gets to be as repetitive as it is considering there could be a lot more variety here. I only listed two affixes per Prey here, but I imagine every Prey-type should actually get 3-4 Affixes on the highest difficulty. Astalor would be kept at a minimal, I'd even say his affixes should be removed outright or simply reused for a specific prey-type (KILL FOR ME, NOW! could become an affix for the Wretched Elves for example)

Also, because this bothers me so much - allow the Prey to actually ambush us while we are mining or gathering herbs.

12.0.5 Undocumented Mythic Dragonflight Raid Changes

Hi TheDruidMan Soloist here and I have Been testing old Dragonflight mythic raids after Patch 12.0.5 and there are several undocumented changes that make soloing much easier.

I ran all 3 raids today on mythic on a level 80 ret paladin and cleared everything with no issue/wipes

I plan to have a video guide out pointing out any remaining potential wipe mechanics that could kill people on my youtube channel

# Vault of the Incarnates

Broodkeeper Diurna

Add stacks now appear to cap, so they no longer need to be seperated.
You can just stand on the boss and cleave everything down.

# Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible

Rashok

His tank buster combo appears to do no damage now.
You can just stand there and kill him.

Scalecommander Sarkareth

At 10 stacks, you no longer get sent into the Void phase.
The stacks simply reset back to 0, so you can ignore the mechanic entirely.

# Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope

Gnarlroot

Intermission is much faster now.
The debuff lasts for the full duration instead of being tied to stack management.

Larodar

His tank buster no longer seems to happen.
This makes him much easier for non-tank / non-pet classes to facetank.

Nymue

Intermission damage has been reduced heavily.
It no longer hits nearly as hard as before.

Tindral

Only 1 seed spawns now.
You also no longer get debuffed for soaking it, so handling seeds is much easier.

# Fyrakk

Major changes noticed:

Aflame now caps at 1 stack
The intermission shield is dramatically smaller and can be broken in roughly 2–3 hits
Adds now self-heal slowly, around 2–3% per second
Heart of Amirdrassil now drains at roughly 1% every 3 seconds, instead of about 1% every 1 second before the patch

Dear Blizzard - Ion, its time to reflect here...

Blizzard team, I'm going to be fairly direct here. I know we all joke about "small indie company" but this latest patch has decayed from neglect and "unknown or misunderstood interactions" into the realm of AI Slop, and I work on AI and automation for a living.

Within less than 24 hours these forums and across all of the class discords we've surfaced enough serious bugs that this introvert feels compelled to write this in the rare chance you see it, I/we have legitimate concerns about the quality gate that produced this release.

Below are functional and launch blocking defects. Many of these are the sort of thing that a single play tester with a modicum of understanding doing a single combat log parse would catch.

I'll start with the big one that you caught during your automated smoke testing -**Player housing**, the flagship evergreen feature won't launch at all and you had to turn it off... Not a great start.

**L'ura** is bugged on all difficulties, every progression group running the raid right now is in a holding pattern not sure what abilities will or will not go off.

**Decor Duels** (one of your headline features) has one breaking bug and a design decision that seems counter intuitive:

* Seeker Hunters can use "track" to track disguised hiders through their disguises. This directly defeats the premise of the mode.
* Hiders who pick strong, legitimate hiding spots are being auto-disqualified by the match system, punishing players for being too good at the hiding mechanic.

**Voidforge Bonus Rolls:**

* Giving duplicate items from Mythic+ despite your advertised duplicate protection. Players are burning two rolls and getting the same piece.

**Voidforge Broken logic:**

* Voidforge vault token purchase from Decimus takes your currency but only awards 1 token, putting players at 1/2 of the weekly cap. There's a workaround (spend the token, go back, he re-issues), but it's clearly broken logic on the first-time purchase flow.

**Delve Character Bug:**

The Shadow enclave delve has a character-state bug where players get stuck unable to strafe even after full logout, the only way to correct this is by logging onto a different character first.

**Items and consumables**

* Midnight Engineering items designed to prevent food and flask buff decay are only applying to Khaz Algar food and flasks. They do not apply to the Midnight consumables they were clearly built for.

**Class gameplay**

* Subtlety Rogue's Shadowblades has a spell ID collision and casts Distract when pressed.
* Unholy Death Knight DoTs are dropping their third tick seemingly at random.
* Rogue primary and secondary stat priorities shifted so severely that mains are being forced to re-gear entirely to match what was framed as a tuning pass, not a re-weight.

There's a Blizzard forum thread titled **"\[Demonology\] The current list of known bugs still present on PTR 12.0.5"** posted three weeks ago during PTR testing, listing six specific Warlock bugs that players documented, reported, and tagged. They include:

* Demonology Diabolist: Abyssal Dominion broken
* Diabolist Hero Talent: Pit Lord and Mother of Chaos targeting issues
* Soul Leech providing roughly 60% less shielding than the tooltip states
* Leech stat no longer heals the warlock's demon at all
* Infernal Beneficiary issues in Delves

These were **reported on PTR** three weeks before launch. you ignored this and shipped to live anyway.

**The Keystone Myth Achievement being disabled...**

Here is the crux of the issue, none of these are obscure edge cases. Your automation tooling you are using is failing you.

* A class ignoring the core mechanic of a prop hunt mode is the first thing any human tester playing one round of Decor Duels would notice.
* The unholy rotational DoT missing ticks is what any sim or a single combat log parse surfaces in minutes.
* Abilities casting the wrong ability because of an ID collision is a unit-test-level failure.
* A buff item applying to the wrong expansion's consumables is a tag mismatch that a basic

Dear Blizz, please rethink the 8 week patch cycle.

Dear Blizz,

When you first announced their plans for the patch cadence going forward I had my doubts. You claimed that you had it figured out, but I knew in my gut that even if you could keep up at first things would eventually fall apart and now we're starting to see that.

I don't think anyone would be mad if patches were 10, maybe even 12, weeks instead of 8. I'm not asking for more content, just more polished content as well as more time to breath.

I am finding more and more that I'm actually missing the content droughts. Okay, maybe not the HUGE content droughts we saw at the end of MoP, WoD, and in SL, but the more moderate ones. I am finding that just as I "complete" the content of a patch a bunch of new stuff comes out. And while I'm sure this is well and good for engagement, I'm finding its slowly starting to wear on me. I want to play the game, it is my favourite game, but sometimes I do need a break and in the past these content droughts allowed me to log in for a little bit every day to nibble away at things and then let me log off to go play other games or touch grass or whatever without feeling like I'm missing out on something. Breathing room helps avoid burnout.

I get it, you want constant engagement, shareholders want line to go up which requires subs to go brrrrr. But please don't be afraid of making the patches just a tinsy winsy bit longer to at the very least work on the bugs a bit more. I doubt you'd actually lose that many subs and in reality if you let the bugs stack up badly enough you could cause a larger loss in sub numbers than if you extended each patch by a month, especially is something crazy happens again on the scale of the guild bank purge at the start of TWW, which given the state of things seems more likely by the day.
