YSK: If someone doesn’t want to dance you should just leave them alone rather than try and force them

Why YSK: not dancing in public situations often leads people to try and force you to partake and getting angry when you refuse to. People that don’t dance often don’t just need to try it and trying to force them will just lead to n uncomfortable situation for all parties

I am personally beat deaf. I am incapable of dancing, beating my head, or even tapping my fingers in response to a beat. Dancing feels like nothing to me and I have no ability to coordinate my movements in response to music. You’d be surprised just how much this stands out and distracts people after a few minutes of looking at me people will often literally stop and stare because it’s so different than anything that resembles dancing.

While beat deafness is rare plenty of people are too shy or just don’t want to dance and if someone really doesn’t wanna dance stop making them uncomfortable and trying to force them.

I can’t count the amount of times people have physically pulled me on the dance floor only to get furious when I refuse.

LPT: Don’t ever think you’re too good for assistance. I had to go to a food bank today and it was a great experience.

As a kid I volunteered in food pantries. I had no idea at 31 I’d be depending on the kindness of community to eat. And I am so grateful

I had my first experience going to a food pantry tonight. I grew up very privileged but have struggled with mental illnesses that have seriously delayed my development. I went to a food pantry because I am in desperate need right now. I got denied for food stamps even though I have no income right now. I didn’t know how I was going to eat.

I googled food banks near me and found one with great reviews. I went there when they opened and sat next to a wonderful woman who told me about her eight great grandchildren. We talked about life and she told me she’d been struggling for a while. She’s suffering from arthritis, stomach issues and she hurt her back years ago and had to stop doing what she loved: teaching kindergarten.

I arrived at four and left by 5:15 with a cart full of food 💜

I was humbled by the entire experience. Here I am thinking I’m too good for a food pantry, that I’m embarrassed to be there and how did I get myself here? But I refuse to take another dime from my parents or even ask for help. I will find work and I am resilient.

Everyone there was so kind. I got some really great items and I can go back in a month.

Times are hard right now. You shouldn’t ever have to worry about where your next meal comes from. Food is a necessity to all human beings.

I plan to start volunteering there next week :)

YSK that there is a chrome extension that helps find sustainable alternatives to products you browse on Amazon

Found this tool a few months back, and it's made my shopping experience so much more easier.

This extension helps users find eco-friendly alternatives to products they are browsing on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and BestBuy. (Hate big corporates like Amazon, so I love that it diverts traffic and thus, increases reach & conversions for ethical brands at a minimal cost, as well.) It also helps me find discounts and coupons on eco-friendly websites. Here's the link: Be zen

Why YSK: Conscious consumerism is a huge step towards saving the planet. Sustainable practices like this are the key. Small steps matter.

YSK even though plastic bottles say 'recycle with cap on' many recycling centers can't recycle plastic bottlecaps

Why YSK: I happened to read this article that mentioned that many facilities still don't have the technology to recycle bottle caps, even though pretty much all pop bottles say to recycle them with the caps on. I checked with my local recycling pickup and it turns out they don't recycle plastic caps either. I thought I was being environmentally conscious by always leaving the caps on but I guess not.

Cockroaches have a tendency to hide really well and away from sight. If you see one or two in your cupboards there are going to be several more. LPT: slow cookers and curry powder are a godsend if you are busy or lazy, especially as a student/WFH.

I've got ADHD, so I often forget to cook and eat (or just don't have the gumption). Slow cookers are an absolute godsend.

All you have to do is chop up random veggies, chuck in any form of meat, water, and then dump in a bunch of curry powder. Tastes pretty good, and you have SOME food whenever you want it if you leave it on warm (not recommended to do for too long). The ingredients can be the suspect carrots that look nearly off, or whatever's left over from before. Meals are cheap as shit, if you skip the meat and just add beans it can be like $4. Curry powder adds flavour to anything. Can make sure you're getting a balanced diet very easily. Cooks while out doing other stuff, sleeping or at work. Max 10 minutes of "cooking", even if you leave it on it's a low fire risk.

LPT: Urban Dating on a Budget

If you are dating around and seeing new people regularly, get yearly passes to the cultural places in town such as botanical gardens, art museums, science museums etc.

I believe we paid $80 for our yearly dual membership to the botanical garden. There is only one name on the card, so you can get you + anyone in. Hello to botanical garden and a store bought bottle of wine dates! Very economical and more interesting/less awkward than just drinks.

It also gives you something to talk about such as "look at that flower/painting/tree".

As a previously single lady, I would have loved these (less awkward) first/second dates as they are more creative - plus you can save money, which you will really appreciate bc fuck inflation.

Think: $80 membership fees over a year would mean $7 dates (plus possibly parking and drinks or snacks, split as you both choose) if you went only once a month.

You can even get a few memberships and have 2-3 different places to take dates. One membership to the garden, one to the art museum, one to the science museum. Pepper in some hikes and walks and you could get 6 months of dates with a single person for a pretty affordable price without making it repetitive. The garden looks different every season and the art museum has different exhibits, etc.

You could even ask for memberships as holiday gifts and the entrance part would essentially be free.

YSK that the RICE (rest, ice, compress, elevate) protocol is outdated and should not be used.

Why YSK: It does more harm than good. Here is a TL;DR of the story behind the RICE protocol. One day, Eddie Knowles decided to jump inside a moving train. Sadly, that ended up with his arm being severed from his body. He got taken to the hospital and Dr. Ronald A. Malt took his arm and put it in ice to keep it cool. He ended up being the first person to successfully reattach a limb. Since this worked, it became the recommendation, even though there was no evidence behind it. Fast forward about 15 years, Dr. Gabe Mirkin and Marshall Hoffman wrote a book called “The Sports Medicine Book” and put the RICE protocol in it (the E was just so it could be RICE, not RIC). This is how RICE became popular. There is little to no evidence the RICE protocol actually works. But there is evidence that it delays the healing process. Even Dr. Malt is against it now (he even wrote a book about it being a myth). Instead, people suggest doing the MEAT protocol. MEAT is short for movement, exercise, analgesics (pain medication), and treatment. Ice is sometimes necessary to temporarily relieve the pain, but as a whole MEAT is better than RICE. RICE is necessary sometimes right after the injury. If you get shot in the leg (or any other injury that is really bad), you should follow RICE, but for actual recovery, you should do MEAT once the injury is dealt with. I hate when strangers expect me to blindly believe them, so here are some sources.

YSK Broccoli fixes constipation & what happens next

From personal experiences.

Was constipated all my life, never went to doctors except for emergencies & so never knew this was a problem.
Happened because I stayed mostly clear of vegetables & high fiber foods in general.

Happened because growing up veggies were cooked steamed & plain with only butter & salt for seasonings.
After moving out I started cooking & continued in the same pattern until doctor diagnosed constipation & suggested high fiber foods.

Why YSK: Mother died from colon cancer which gave me more focus on high fiber foods & MUCH less highly processed foods having nitrites & chemicals (ex. junk food in general, hot dogs, cold cuts)

Started cooking veggies using pasta sauce & broth as bases & adding spices to create italian, asian, middle eastern, indian & others.

YUMMMMMM!!!

Noticed immediately NO constipation as long as I eat broccoli mixed with other veggies that don't seem to have the same dramatic results, just for variety.

ysk about the fda's predictions regarding worsening adderall shortages that will continue to disrupt medication management well into 2023

when the thing that rhymes with nobid 19, the u.s. made some unsustainable changes to the public healthcare system and the expectations of its workforce. as a direct result, we're now:

\- experiencing broken supply chains (ex. railroad union walkouts)- fulfilling now-irrelevant medical expectations (ex. over-writing controlled prescriptions)
\- unable to meet new engagement expectations (adhd interventions up 20% since 2019)
\- tapped out of local resources (80% of adhd-impacted individuals felt they lost rx access in fda poll)
\- [don't even get me started on this.](https://www.fiercehealthcare.com/health-tech/amid-cerebral-investigation-doj-regulators-will-ramp-scrutiny-telehealth-companies)

if you are prescribed dextro/amphetamines/amphetamine salts, you are probably aware that there is a nation-wide drug shortage that is affecting individuals' access to adderall/its generics. pharmacies are having a very hard time locating, ordering and maintaining inventory of these drugs. "big" pharmacies like walgreens and cvs have identified this problem specifically, because they are locked into prescription cost arrangements with goodrx, etc. whereas "smaller" pharmacies are able to continue ordering these medications independently and manipulate prescription costs.

pharmacists are also playing with their cards close to the vest by not suggesting alternatives to prescriptions that can't be filled as they were written. it's really important to know how to advocate for your mental health maintenance and a path of lesser harm. that being said, here are some hard and fast rules that i feel that *why ysk:* a fairer fight if **can't fill adderall ir as written, then...**

**change the ifu on your rx**
10mg ir and 30mg ir are in the highest demand, so if you have an ifu that says "one 30mg tablet in morning as needed" and the pharmacy doesn't have 30mg, it won't be filled. but if you change the ifu to say "two 15mg tablets in the morning as needed," you might get that filled.

**change the efficacy from ir to xr**
if you are going to have to start making changes in order to fill the need, mind the steps in choosing your equivalency. 30mg adderall xr and 30mg adderall ir are, theoretically, the same. the fda's newest drug report identifies adderall xr as being far less problematic to fill.

**challenge your insurance coverage**
if your insurance is denying your prescription, ask your doctor or pharmacist to fill out a prior-authorization request. this form lets your insurance know that the specifics of your prescription are intentional and considered to be the most appropriate option for your treatment. appeal your eligibility for coverage for on-brand adderall or equivalence with vyvanse, etc.

**communicate your needs**
especially when healthcare is concerned, here is no harm in asking. if you are in limbo waiting for authorization or for your doctor to be available to manage your meds after a weekend, ask your pharmacist for an emergency prescription. this is a 3 day supply and sometimes that is just enough time to line up your plan b for reliable access to adhd meds.

**contact third parties**
research options for cost-reduction programs or contact drug manufacturers directly and ask for free samples. also contact your insurance directly and ask if they have a list of formulations that might take some of the guesswork out of re-working your prescription or work for 90-day fills.

**community coordination**
explore what types of social services and programs are in your local area. look into being represented by a peer specialist, work with ombudsman or find advocacy roundtables through the public library/community center. a good place to look is your town's doh website, too,

fda reports that march 2023 is when this supply chain will stabilize.
