YSK: Modern non-stick cookware is not dangerous under normal use, even when scratched

Why YSK: I often see people fall under the impression that Teflon (PTFE) pans are unsafe, especially when scratched, and should be discarded immediately. While older manufacturing processes used PFOA to make Teflon, any cookware made after 2013 is generally safe. The coating cannot be absorbed by the body even if ingested.

HOWEVER, you should not heat non-stick cookware above 500F. The coating starts to break down and release toxic fumes at that temperature.

YSK: If someone attacks your frustration during a heated debate, it's an "Ad Hominem" fallacy

Why YSK: When people make inflammatory, outrageous statements, they will often try to use reactionary outrage as an excuse to do or say what they want.

For example:

A) "Smoking feels good, so I'm putting my baby inside a cocktail smoking chamber."

B) "Are you insane?! That's terrible for them! There is evidence proving how bad it is!"

A) "You're clearly triggered and don't know what you're talking about. Now where is that baby?"

This attack against your feelings instead of your argument is underhanded, avoiding your actual argument by attacking you as a person. Don't let people draw you into an Ad Hominem fallacy and stick to your points.

YSK: April Fools’ pranks and jokes should never make you worry for your safety.

Why YSK: April Fools’ should be about harmless fun, not fear, distress, or real harm. Pranks involving firings, injuries, trauma, or threats to safety aren’t jokes—they’re cruelty disguised as humor. If someone enjoys or justifies these kinds of pranks, it reveals their disregard for others’ well-being. Surround yourself with people who value respect and kindness, not those who find amusement in causing harm.

LPT - When you're not satisfied with your life, pick one area to focus on changing first.

I used to think that if I wanted to turn my life around, I had to fix everything all at once. So I’d make a big list: wake up earlier, start working out, meditate daily, eat healthier, cut screen time, journal, build a side hustle, be more social… you get the idea. I’d dive in full of motivation, determined to overhaul my life — and then crash hard a week or two later.

What I’ve learned (both through personal trial and error and working in behavioral science) is that willpower is limited. When we try to change too many things at once, we spread that willpower thin and end up making no real progress in any area. But when we choose one area — just one — that we genuinely care about, and start there, we give ourselves the best shot at success. Progress in that one area builds momentum and confidence to eventually take on more.

It might feel slow. It might feel like you’re not doing “enough.” But if you stick with it, you are changing. And each new habit or shift gets easier to build on the last.

LPT TIL what “Actively Hiring” really means on LinkedIn job posts

TIL that when a job on LinkedIn is labeled as “Actively Hiring”, it doesn’t just mean the company is hiring in general—it actually means they’ve assigned a recruiter or hiring manager to that specific posting who is actively reviewing applicants.

This tag usually shows up when there’s someone internally managing the pipeline and trying to fill the role quickly. It’s not a guarantee you’ll get a call back, but your odds of being seen (and possibly getting a faster response) are higher compared to listings without that tag.

Also learned you can filter for these jobs using the LinkedIn URL by adding f_AL=true—which basically means you’re only seeing roles where someone is actually monitoring and pushing the hire forward.

Not all job listings are equal, and now I know which ones to prioritize when I apply.

LPT: If you have an Iphone, don’t use an online converter to turn files into a PDF. Use the “print” feature in the Photo or Files app.

For example, you can send your images to your phone. Once they’re in your photo library, select them, hit send, and hit “print.” Do a zoom in motion on the image that appears and the image will maximize. Now hit the new send button that just appeared and hit save as PDF.

This also works in the files app. Select a few files, hit the send or share (whatever you call it) button in the bottom left corner, and repeat the same process. This can even merge PDFs together.

Almost any app with the box and arrow send symbol (such as the notes app) can also do this.

How to start living alone?

Hi, I’m 22 F and I want absolutely nothing more than to live completely alone, but it’s something I’ve never been able to do before. I live in my parent’s basement, work a part time job I like, and don’t make much money. I have my own car, but it probably couldn’t pull a trailer unfortunately. I’m hoping to promote to full time at my job so I can afford to live alone.

I want any and all advice anyone has for me, where do I even begin looking? I’m willing to live in an apartment, a trailer, an RV, anything but renting a space in someone else’s house. I need to live alone where no one else touches anything in my space. Badly. I don’t care how small or sketchy it is. Right now it looks like everything in my area is over a thousand dollars a month to rent which I can’t hope to afford, I’m looking for something that’s around 500 a month, 700 might also become doable if I can get full time at work. Are there websites where I can browse options even if they’re far away? How do I know what I can trust? What’s a good deal on an RV even look like? Talk to me like I’m 6 etc.

Thank you!

LPT: Avoid telling yourself "I need to...", or "I should do..."; instead say "I will-", or "I'm going to-"

When working toward your goals, avoid the mental trap of using phrasing that leads off with "I need to do X", or "I should start doing Y". Language is incredibly powerful, and it directly impacts how successful we'll be in life.

Using poor phrasing can create a sort of "false equivalency" (those learned in psychology might correct my terminology here) in your brain that can sabotage plans before you've even started. Use words that are actionable and direct.

Try this. Instead of saying:

"I need to get back to the gym...", or "I need to workout again..."; say "I'm going to the gym after work at 5:30", or "I'll do my morning workout at 6am".

"I should really start eating better...", or "I ought to eat less junk food..."; say "We'll make This clean meal for dinner and our healthy snack tonight will be That".

or

"I want to drink less...", or "I wish I could stop drinking/smoking..."; tell yourself "I only drink water" or "I just breathe clean air".

Try it, use it, it works and will help you. You'll still have to put in effort and attention to detail, but you'll be setup for much greater success with less internal strife along the way.

LPT: Learn how to give your dog the heimlich

Call it paternal instincts, neurosis, a premonition, or something else, but when I got my puppy, I watched a YouTube video on how to treat a choking dog. I never expected (or wanted) to have to use that knowledge but I figured better to be safe than sorry. I've now used it twice!

The first instance the little guy choked on a pigs ear. This one's on me; turns out these are a common cause of choking. (Incidental LPT to research choking hazards.) However, in the second instance, he inhaled the small tip of a sprinkler. It must have been an accident as we have trained him not to eat things off the floor (or maybe he's just an idiot when I'm not looking). Anyway, I don't think anyone can prepare for that, which is where the LPT comes in.

You can't really "stay calm" in this situation (I was totally freaking out) but thank God I knew what to do and sprung into action. It dislodged after the longest 15 seconds of my life and he started running around like it never happened 🙄 ... I think I pulled a hammy.

So, set the time aside to watch and learn. Send it to your friends and family. It's something so small but could potentially save a dog's life 🐶
