Tips to shower earlier?
I probably can't easily explain my weird overly superstitious thinking process and habits but basically I can't go to sleep without showering, and I habitually push my showers further and further away every night to where I never go to bed before 3-5AM. And then on weekdays I force myself to wake up by 8AM (because I know normal people who aren't bums like me get up way earlier anyway), so I barely ever get any sleep, and I feel like shit all the time.
With showering, it's a weird neurological reward where for whatever reason I subconsciously dread showers even though I know they feel good (because I don't have the willpower to take cold showers), so I push them away but when I get in the shower it's hard to get myself out because tbh they are the part of my day I enjoy the most. I don't know how to bring this shower timing forward. I've heard suggestions that it needs to become like brushing your teeth - something you instinctually do when you wake up. However, awhile back I started brushing my teeth after breakfast, which varies when I eat, so there isn't a set time for that either. So basically I just live a very amorphous, irregular, purposeless existence with nothing routine to it except that I am not routine. How do I fix this and straighten out my days - especially my shower timing?

LPT: Reframe difficult decisions with a push button mindset.
Meaning, if the outcome of your decision was instantly reached with the push of a button, would you push the button?
Let's say you are unsure if you want to find a different job, well if you could push a button and be working at a new job instantly, would you press it?
Often our hesitation isn't caused by A vs B, but rather the work required to get from A to B. It seems risky and stressful. A seems better because A doesn't rock the boat.
Now, the classic cost vs benefit approach should be used instead in certain decisions, but not ALL of them. A good rule of thumb for this button method is if option A is the stagnant "safe" choice. Cost vs benefit will always favor option A, keeping you stuck.
If option B was just as easy to reach, you might see that B is actually better.

LPT: Treat Your Savings Like a Monthly Bill to Build Financial Resilience (From a CFA Charterholder)
most people save whatever’s left after spending, but flipping that mindset can actually be a game changer. if you start paying yourself first—like automatically sending 15-20% of your paycheck to savings or investments before you touch bills or spending money—you’ll build wealth way more consistently, avoid lifestyle creep, and save yourself the headache of constantly trying to budget.
think of saving like a monthly bill you owe your future self. set up automatic transfers to stuff like a 401(k), Roth IRA, emergency fund, or even a basic brokerage account. and if 15% sounds like too much, no stress—start with 5% and slowly bump it up after raises or every year.
this works because you basically train yourself to live off what’s left. you won’t even miss the money once it’s gone. plus, compounding is wild—$500/month growing at 7% turns into over half a million in 30 years. and having 3-6 months of expenses saved gives you a legit safety net when life gets messy.
also, it helps to keep your savings in separate accounts depending on the goal. high-yield savings accounts are great for emergencies, and index funds work well for retirement. that way, when stuff goes sideways or the market dips, your progress doesn’t fall apart.
your future self will be so glad you started early.
TL;DR: pay yourself first by saving/investing before you spend. even 5% makes a difference. automate it, separate your savings by goal, and let compounding do its thing.

LPT: If you’re overwhelmed by everything you need to do, don’t start with a to-do list — make a “done list” instead.
Sounds backwards, but hear me out.
When you’re stuck in a rut, anxious, or paralyzed by how much you need to do, your brain can spiral into inaction. Instead of forcing a to-do list you’ll ignore, try this:
Start writing down everything you’ve already done today, no matter how small. Brushed your teeth? Write it down. Answered one email? Write it down. Got out of bed? Write it down.
This tricks your brain into recognizing momentum. You go from “I’ve done nothing” to “Okay, I’ve already done something.” It’s like giving yourself credit for showing up, which builds the motivation to keep going.
Once your brain sees progress, it’s way easier to transition into tackling that one thing you were avoiding. It’s especially helpful if you have ADHD, depression, or burnout. Even high-functioning people get stuck sometimes — this can get you unstuck.
Try it. “Done list” first, to-do list second.

YSK that your alarm ringtone might be doing more harm than good
Why YSK: The type of ringtone you use to wake up in the morning could be doing your body harm. If you use a loud and harsh ringtone to wake up, the sudden jolt increases your stress and anxiety levels. This can lead to a bad start to the day, and contributes to grogginess. It can also increase your heart rate and raise your blood pressure. And whenever you hear that same ringtone outside of your morning routine, it can trigger the same stress response automatically. Instead choose a quiter alarm with a less harsh sound such as bird noises. You can also try tuning your natural circadian rhythm by practicing sleep consistency in order to wake up on time without an alarm. Other things that help include leaving your curtains slightly open so the morning sun wakes you up.

LPT: a simple habit that helped me cope with grief
LPT: I lost someone really close to me about a year ago, and it hit me harder than I ever expected. At first, I didn’t know how to deal with it. I tried distracting myself, staying busy, but the sadness never really left. One day, I read a simple life tip online that has honestly helped me so much since then—writing down one good thing that happened each day, no matter how small.
At first, I thought it was cheesy, but it turned out to be a game-changer. Some days it was something as simple as having a warm cup of coffee or hearing a funny joke. Other days, it was something deeper, like remembering a moment with my loved one that made me smile. It didn’t take away the grief, but it helped me see there were still good moments, even in the tough days. I’m curious if anyone else has tried something like this, or if you have other tips for coping that worked for you? I’m still learning, but this little habit has been my lifeline.

Looking to soundproof windows from a crazy rooster... Any ideas?
Not sure if this is the right sub for this but it seems as though it might be.
My neighbours have a pretty crazy rooster that's driving me up the wall everyday. The noise is so jarring, and it's been like this for 2 years. I've had enough 😭
The noise from the rooster in my room increases from 25db (normal room level) to at least 45. I miss sleeping for long hours.
Not sure which type of glazing to get to insulate the noise. Googled something about 'double glazed windows with acoustic grade levels' and that apparently seems to reduce noise by a lot.
Was also thinking about noise reduction curtains, but I feel like that's the scam of the century. There's no way a piece of fabric can reduce noise coming in.
So I'm not sure which type of glazing to get for the windows. My windows are quite poor at sound insulation: you can hear birds from at least 150m away, people talking even if quietly, literally every noise imaginable. So you can imagine a rooster screaming.
Any ideas? Thank you x

LPT: How to Stay Productive During Long Study Sessions (From a Med Student Who’s Been There)
Hey everyone! As a 3rd-year pre-med student drowning in exams, I’ve had to learn some tricks to stay focused during those marathon study sessions. Here’s what’s worked for me:
1. The 50/10 Rule: Study for 50 mins, break for 10. Your brain retains info better in chunks, and those 10 mins are perfect for a quick walk or a snack.
2. Hydration Station: Keep a water bottle handy. Dehydration = fatigue, and we don’t need that during an all-nighter.
3. Active Recall > Passive Reading: Instead of re-reading notes, quiz yourself. It’s backed by research (look up the testing effect!) and saves time.
4. Change Your Scenery: If you’ve been at your desk for hours, move to a library couch or a coffee shop. New environment = mental reset.
5. Phone Jail: Seriously, put it in another room. Out of sight, out of mind.
Bonus tip: If you’re cramming anatomy like me, sketch structures instead of just memorizing. It sticks way better.
What are your go-to study hacks? Would love to hear what works for others!
