LPT make sure you know clearly what to do if you get into a fender bender. Make sure your driving-age children know too.

Many people, especially teens, dont have a plan in place should they get into a minor car accident, with no injuries. This isn't a pro tip regarding the actual steps (will vary by municipality and your insurance, so research first). It's more to do with preparedness. You may not think straight at the moment so having a checklist prepared will help. Should you move your car if it's blocking traffic? Were there witnesses? Should you call the police? If so, emergency or non emergency number? What if they dont come? Is there a link where i can self report the accident? Which document info should be exchanged? What if the other driver doesn't have any? What if they appear to be under the influence? What photos besides the cars should you take? Etc. Missteps can lead to thousands in out-of-pocket losses

LPT - At the end of every week, write one sentence, what slowed me down the most this week?

You will find real patterns in your behavior. Fixing one slowdown is worth more than ten new hacks.

Almost nobody tracks slowdowns. This is real improvement.

Example:

Last week my slowdown was very simple. I kept switching between my email and my main task. I thought it was harmless, but when I wrote my one sentence at the end of the week, I saw the pattern clearly. I was breaking my focus every ten minutes.

Once I noticed it, I changed one thing the next week: I opened my email only on the hour. That one change gave me more progress than any new app or trick.

How do you all deal with cat hair literally… EVERYWHERE?

So I swear my cat sheds like she’s getting paid for it. I love her to death, but lately it feels like I’m living inside a giant, slow-moving snow globe made entirely of cat hair. I’ll vacuum, lint-roll, wipe things down… and 24 hours later it’s like I never existed.

What else do you guys do? Anyone discovered a magic tool or hack that doesn’t involve shaving the cat

LPT: If you struggle to start things, shrink the first step till it feels kinda stupid. It fixes more than motivation ever will.

a lot of ppl think they have a motivation problem when really they have a “my first step is way too big” problem. your brain freaks out when it sees a whole task, but it’ll give you a tiny yes if the first step is small enough that you cant talk yourself out of it.

example: instead of “clean the whole kitchen,” tell yourself “put 1 cup in the sink.” instead of “go workout,” say “walk into the garage and touch a dumbell.” instead of “do the whole report,” open the doc and type the first sentence, even if its bad. most of the time the small start drags you into real momentum without you noticing.

this works because your brain only cares if you finished something. it doesnt track size, it just tracks a win. one tiny win flips your mindset from avoidance to progress, and that shift makes the next step way easier.

this isnt common sense at all, cuz most people keep waiting around trying to feel motivated first, which almost never shows up. shrinking the starting line gives you movement, and movement creates the motivation ppl think they’re missing.

sounds dumb but it saves you hours of stress and gets you moving when nothing else works. give yourself a win so small you literally cant fail, and you’ll finally start the stuff youve been avoiding.

if you got a micro start trick that works for you, drop it. im always stealing good ideas from smarter ppl.

Doing a bit of the worse task will make the original start to seem appealing. Need to clean the garage? Start filing taxes. Best part is one way or another you have some annoying task to take off your list. I call this Cascading Procrastination.

LPT: If you waste groceries often, build meals around what spoils fastest not what sounds good first

Most food waste happens when we plan meals around cravings instead of expiration speed.

When you get groceries, quickly sort them into:

“Use first” (fresh produce, opened items)
“Use later” (frozen, dry goods)

For the first few days, plan meals strictly around the “use first” group.
This solves the problem of throwing away food that you fully intended to eat.

YSK: Pork and chicken are healthier, cheaper alternatives to beef that only taste bland because of outdated cooking habits.

Why YSK: With beef prices at record highs, switching to chicken breast or pork loin can cut your meat budget nearly in half while significantly lowering your saturated fat intake AND satisfying your protein intake. Most people avoid these cuts because they grew up eating them overcooked. Modern food safety standards allow pork to be eaten safely at 145 F (a medium roast, rather than gray leather), and chicken stays juicy if you don't cook it to death.

By simply using a meat thermometer and adding savory seasonings (like soy sauce or smoked paprika) to mimic the meaty depth of beef, or using techniques like velveting for chicken or dry brining for pork, you can get the same satisfaction for a fraction of the cost and environmental impact.

Even switching to chicken and pork for just two meals a week can save you hundreds of dollars.

Lastly, focusing on lean cuts of pork and chicken also has health benefits. While beef is a powerhouse for iron and B12, it is often high in calories and saturated fat. Chicken breast and pork loin are significantly leaner. Pork tenderloin is as lean as skinless chicken breast and has been certified as "heart-healthy" by the American Heart Association.

Tl;dr chicken breast and pork loin are roughly 80% cheaper per pound than beef, have versatile and delicious flavor profiles if cooked and prepped correctly, are rich in protein, and are healthier for your heart and cholesterol.

Most people forget that painted walls, especially near kitchens, bathrooms, or high-traffic areas, actually absorb odor over time. A quick wipe-down with warm water + a mild cleaner can refresh a space way more than another round of vacuuming or air freshening.

LPT: When someone apologizes, stop saying "It's okay." Say this instead.

The phrase "It's okay" is often a reflex, but it immediately minimizes your feelings and you unintentionally give them a mental "free pass" to repeat the behavior.

Instead, try one of these responses:

1. I appreciate the apology. I'm glad we talked about it.
2. Thank you for apologizing. I was pretty disappointed, but I accept it.

Why this works:

You make it clear that the action wasn't okay, but the apology is appreciated.

YSK that humidifiers can mess up your central air. If yours is filterless, and you use tap water, it'll release the minerals from the tap water into the air and that can clog up your blower.

A few winters ago when my kids were toddlers we put a filterless humidifier in their bedroom and cranked it up. We ignored the "distilled water only" label as a cash grab by Big Water™ and used tap water. A week later our furnace shut off. Couldn't figure out why.

A tech came and found the filter was COVERED with really fine white powder. Changed the filter and it worked fine.

The powder was probably calcium, one of the minerals in tap water. When water evaporates it leaves minerals behind, which is where the little dusty white spots on bathtubs come from.

Why YSK: Some humidifiers use evaporation, but most cheap portable ones are "ultrasonic" and instead use vibration to turn water into little droplets, and unless yours has a filter the droplets carry the minerals with them.

If you have central air with an air return then the droplets will get sucked into your ducts and any minerals will stick to the machinery and your air filter. Too much will restrict the airflow and cause the blower to shut down.

So, we learned that the distilled water label isn't a ploy, it's because distilled water is evaporated and so mostly mineral-free.
