LPT: Reply to vague work requests with one sentence that locks the deliverable and deadline.
A lot of work chaos starts with vague asks. I keep it clean by replying with one sentence that says what I will deliver and when.
Format I use:
I will deliver what by when.
Example 1.
A teammate dropped a link and said can you take a look. I replied,
I will review the doc and leave comments on sections 1 and 2 by 3 pm.
Example 2.
My manager asked for campaign numbers. I replied,
I will send spend, clicks, conversions, and one takeaway by noon.
Example 3.
A client asked for an update. I replied,
I will share the draft plus the three changes I made since last version by tomorrow morning.
This sets expectations fast and it keeps me from doing the wrong version of the task.

LPT - One of the most important places to keep a fire extinguisher is between you and your kids bedroom.
No matter the layout of your house, make sure you have access to a fire extinguisher so you can get to your kids in the event of a fire. We have one mounted on the wall below the master bedroom light switch and after a week you don't even notice it anymore. If a fire breaks out at night, I know I will have access to a fire extinguisher no matter what.

YSK: If you're going to use AI for learning or sources to back you up, you should spend some time testing it on stuff you already know to get a sense of how off it often is
Why YSK: We all (I hope) know that AI hallucinates. Just today I asked for an AI summary about a post and image. It wildly misidentified the image (of an incredibly identifiable person) the first time and misconstrued the text.
When I asked it to think again, it again incorrectly identified the image and context.
It took three times for it to provide an accurate image identification and only partially accurate information.
Don't let AI make you look like a moron.

if you hate doing something just make it stupid easy to start
i hated flossing. like really hated it. kept those little floss picks in the bathroom and still never used them.
moved them to my nightstand. right next to my phone where i scroll before bed.
now i floss almost every night because it's literally right there when i'm doing nothing anyway. no getting up, no going to the bathroom, just grab one while scrolling.
same thing worked with reading. i wanted to read more but never did. put a book on the coffee table instead of the shelf. started reading way more because i'd see it every time i sat down.
apparently my brain needs zero barriers or it just won't do the thing. if something requires even one extra step, that's too many steps.
kind of embarrassing how lazy this is but also... it works? like genuinely works better than trying to build discipline or whatever.
anyone else have embarrassingly simple tricks that actually changed a habit?

i was trying to fix my discipline when i should have been fixing my environment
BODY:
spent like a year trying to build better willpower. reading books about habits, setting intentions, doing affirmations. telling myself i just needed to be more disciplined.
and i kept failing at the same stuff over and over.
then i accidentally stumbled into something. i wanted to drink more water so i bought a giant water bottle and left it on my desk. i didnt set a reminder or make a goal or anything. i just put it there.
and i started drinking way more water. not because i became more disciplined, but because it was just... there. staring at me.
so i started doing that with other things. i want to read more so i leave a book on my pillow. i want to stop doomscrolling at night so i plug my phone in across the room. i want to take vitamins so i put the bottle next to my toothbrush.
turns out i was spending all this energy trying to be a better person when i could have just rearranged my furniture.
its kind of dumb how well it works. like my willpower is the same as it always was, maybe even worse honestly. but my environment is doing half the work now.
i wish someone had told me this earlier. you dont always need more discipline. sometimes you just need to put the thing youre avoiding directly in your line of sight.

Want to be safe and get a colon screening prior to when you're 45? Lie and say you have a family history.
So my buddy who is 41 for colon cancer. I went to the doctor to schedule a colonoscopy and my doctor asked if i had a family history, i replied, "no." She told me my insurance probably wouldn't cover it then. I asked if we could just write that i do have a family history, and she said, "Sure. So who in your family has a history?" I replied, "My Grandpaaa..." She said, "perfect" and i was off to getting myself screened and paid for my our dumbass American health insurance.
Get yourself checked people. They aren't going to ask for proof.

LPT: If you feel overwhelmed, write a “not doing” list before your to-do list
When I’m stressed, my brain keeps adding tasks like it’s trying to win an award for “most productive burnout.”
What helped me more than productivity apps was writing a short “not doing today” list. Not fixing everything. Not answering non-urgent messages. Not reorganizing my whole life at 11pm.
It sounds simple, but it forces you to protect your energy instead of just stacking obligations.
Your workload doesn’t grow because you’re incapable. It grows because you don’t set limits.

LPT: if your apartment or house floods and you have to leave, your insurance doesn't just fix the walls. it pays for your hotel, your dog boarding, and your takeout food.
Most people think renters or homeowners insurance only exists to replace your stolen laptop or fix a burnt cabinet.
But the actual best part of the policy is something called "Loss of Use" (or Coverage D).
If your place becomes unlivable — say, the upstairs neighbor's pipe bursts and ruins your ceiling, or there's a kitchen fire — you do not have to sleep on a friend's couch for a month while they fix it.
Your insurance is legally required to maintain your "normal standard of living."
1. Housing: they will pay for a hotel or an airbnb of similar size/quality to your current place.
2. Food: since you don't have a kitchen anymore, they will reimburse you for eating at restaurants (they pay the difference between your normal grocery bill and the restaurant bills).
3. Extras: they will cover pet boarding if the hotel doesn't allow dogs, extra gas mileage if your commute is longer from the hotel, and even laundry service.
Adjusters often "forget" to mention how broad this coverage is because it costs them a fortune. if you ever get displaced, ask for your "Additional Living Expenses" upfront and keep every single receipt.

LPT: When someone asks how you are, give a one sentence real answer instead of just saying "good." It changes the entire quality of the conversation that follows.
This sounds small and it genuinely is small, but the downstream effect is not. Most conversations between people who know each other start with "how are you" and "good, you" and "good" and then you're into whatever the actual topic is, having exchanged basically zero information about each other. A few years ago i started just answering the question honestly but briefly, not in a therapy way, just a one sentence true statement. "Pretty tired, had a weird week." "Actually really good, just got back from a trip." "A bit distracted today but glad to be here." That's it. Nothing heavy, nothing that requires a response. What i noticed almost immediately is that the other person almost always responds in kind. They'll say something real back.
And suddenly you're two or three exchanges in and you actually know something about where the other person is at before the conversation proper even starts. It also seems to make people feel like you're actually present and not just running through a script. I've had people tell me after years of knowing each other that they feel like they finally know what's going on with me, and all i changed was a two second answer to an opening question. The only adjustment worth making is reading the room, if someone asks in passing while walking past you in a corridor they don't actually want a sentence, they want the nod. But if someone sits down across from you and asks, they usually mean it more than we act like they do.

LPT: Sleeping a lot but still tired? Try these 3 changes first
I used to sleep 9–10 hours regularly. No matter how hard I tried, forcing myself to sleep less just made me more tired. After experimenting with several habits, I found these three changes that actually worked
1. Eat dinner 2–3 hours before bed
Sleeping on a lighter stomach made a noticeable difference. I also try to include around 30% raw food (fruits, sprouts, salads). My sleep feels lighter and I wake up more refreshed.
2. Do light physical activity after dinner
Instead of going straight to bed, I started doing simple movement after dinner .. a short walk, light stretching, or mild dancing. Nothing intense, just 10–15 minutes of gentle activity.
It helped digestion and improved my sleep quality significantly.
3. Increase your involvement in daily tasks
Have you noticed that when something exciting is happening the next day, you wake up before your alarm?
It’s not the alarm ... it’s anticipation.
Instead of waiting for big events, I started creating that involvement in everyday activities. Whatever I’m doing...work, cooking, walking.. I ask myself, “How can I do this slightly better than yesterday?”
This idea was inspired by listening to Sadhguru speak about attention and involvement. When you stop operating on autopilot and pay real attention, even simple tasks feel engaging. Over time, I felt more energized during the day and naturally needed less sleep
I’m not forcing myself to sleep less. If I need rest, I rest. But improving digestion, engagement, and sleep quality helped me go from 8–9 hours to around 6 hours without feeling drained.

YSK: When donating to a nonprofit org, there is basically no limit they can pay themselves as salary before distributing funds.
Why YSK: Always be wary of small non-profits that say things like 80 or 100% of profit will go to "so and so." What they're often leaving out is they can pay themselves a salary of nearly whatever they want and the rest, after expenses, is considered profit. It can ending up meaning the eventual recipients receive a shockingly small amount and whoever is in charge can enrich themselves easily. And when I say "nearly" I mean that it is very rare they are challenged on this and there is no set percentage by law that they can pay themselves.

CBD (cannabidiol) is an ingredient derived from cannabis that is widely used to treat pain and anxiety.
Why YSK: Recently CBD vape products have been popping up and are marketed as a ‘healthier’ alternative for those who want to quit vaping nicotine.
However, recent studies like this one have found that CBD vapes may actually be *more* harmful to lung tissue compared to nicotine vapes. CBD aerosols “resulted in greater inflammatory changes, more severe lung damage and higher oxidative stress compared with nicotine.”
So, if you are trying to quit vaping for health reasons, switching to CBD vapes will likely not be easier on your lungs.

LPT: Be extra careful of how you treat people during transitions in their life. The memories they form during these times tend to be longer-lived and more meaningful.
Life can be a blur and it's easy to forget most day-to-day interactions. A harmless crabby comment or (unfortunately) a thoughtful gesture can fade from memory by the end of the week (or even the end of the day).
It's different when someone is under the stress of a life transition. We tend to remember unusual events more; we also tend to remember stressful events more. When you combine the two of those, you have a recipe for a lifelong memory. This is true whether the event was something good, like a wedding, or something bad, like a death in the family.
I've noticed this repeatedly and other have said it's the same for them. That unkind remark following the death of a loved one? I don't mean to hold on to it. It's not that I'm carrying a grudge. But I remember. For many of these memories, it's been a long time, so I suspect I'll always remember. But it's the same for those who extended a kindness during a transition. I'll never forget those, either.
It's always good to be a kind, thoughtful human but, if you want to protect and nurture your relationships even more, be more careful than usual during those times that make memories that last forever.

If you have any eye for photography, take a few beats to capture the moments for the host. They’re too busy taking care of guests to take pics. I grabbed a few shots at a party I attended yesterday, then gussied em up and set to the host last night. It took me all of 15 minutes, and my friend was very appreciative.
