YSK: hormone replacement therapy can reduce postpartum depression

Why ysk: postpartum depression often occurs due to the rapid hormone shifts that occurs in women's bodies after giving birth. It naturally resolves itself within a couple of months for some but in some cases it can make them suicidal and lasts 6 months to an year. With the absolute worst rare cases leading to schizophrenia and child abuse. Usually psychiatric meds alone are applied but they only treat the symptoms rather than reduce the source of it which is a hormone imbalance affecting the brain

Recently hormone replacement in addition to mood medication is the latest most effective treatment found for it. Cutting the need to be on the medication shorter. Now not every hospital keeps up to tabs on the best possible options so they might be outdated with recommending psychiatric meds alone. Please consult with an endocrinologist (doctor specilizing in hormones) for best results

LPT: 5 Ways to Stay Motivated in a Toxic Job, Until You Can Leave

LPT: 5 Ways to Stay Motivated in a Toxic Job, Until You Can Leave
(Not necessarily in this order)

1. Re-align your skills: Learn, reskill, and prepare your exit quietly. Growth is the best antidote to stagnation.
2. Protect your mind and body: Meditation, yoga, journaling, rest, and recreation help you stay resilient.
3. Work with integrity: Don’t let poor treatment dictate who you become. Show up for your team and clients consistently.
4. Be useful, not just busy: When people trust you as the one who can handle difficult situations, work begins to feel meaningful, even in a broken system.
5. Volunteer somewhere, anywhere: Volunteering reminds you what it feels like to work willingly, with childlike enthusiasm and no hidden agenda.

A note that matters: If a job damages your mental health, don’t test your limits. I eventually resigned and moved on, too.

Here’s what I learned along the way:
You grow far more when your motivation is “usefulness”, not promotions or paychecks.

I discovered this perspective while volunteering at the Isha Yoga Centre in India. You might find yours by helping a neighbor, caring for an elderly person, joining a local volunteer group, or simply helping your mother prepare a meal!

You never know where clarity comes from.

But when you work willingly, with the heart of a volunteer, your Ikigai reveals itself organically, and growth follows.

How to make sure musty smell stays away

Hey everyone,

So weird issue, the contents (clean pjs) of two drawers (out of 12) of my dresser always smell musty. I figured it might be the stuff I hadn’t worn in a while “contaminating” the rest. Which is why I just washed the entire contents of the two drawers, in cold water (not everything was washable in warm water) with Oxiclean Odour Blasters and white vinegar twice. The contents were then air dried in dryer and hung up to air out. I cleaned and dried my drawers.

I want to make sure the musty smell doesn’t come back (to be fair, I’m not sure if it is completely gone because I’m paranoid now and I’m not sure if I’m smelling musty or Oxiclean or both).

Is there a product that I could spray on each item or something I could leave in the drawers that would ensure the musty smell never comes back??

Thank you!!

If someone else has already figured this out, forgive me, but today after lots of cussing and fighting with a big ass tarp solo, I figured out what I think is a brilliant life hack and hate that it didn't occur to me sooner!

Two words: LEAF BLOWER !!!

If you've ever had to deal with a big ass tarp by yourself, and considering Seattle was designated a "blue tarp city" by none other than our humor writer Ron Judd, I suspect it is a semi-regular occurrence. I've been out wrastlin' tarps, trying to protect some stuff from the weather, and, I gotta tell ya', the damn things rarely cooperate when you don't have another warm body on the other end.

Well, today I believe I triumphed over my constant defeat in this arena and I give all thanks to my Ryobi 40 volt leaf blower! I was stuck at one point and if I'd let go of the tarp, I would have negated what little progress I had made when, what to my wandering eye did appear (and was within reach)? My leaf blower! Got the bright idea to blow under the tarp to try and guide it up and over some tricky areas and it worked! Those Costco tarps are ginormous and heavy and are great except when you try to unfold them and cover stuff. So fellow tarp wrestlers, hope this helps you all, too!!

YSK: About this phenomenon called "urban armor" if you live in a big city & struggle to connect with people.

There's a a psychology concept called "urban armor" whereby people develop coping strategies to manage the overstimulation of city life.

One of those strategies is limiting social contact with strangers (service people, passersby, etc.) in order to save bandwidth for situations that are more important to us.

Having traveled from small villages where everyone is communal and happy to struggle communicating through a language barrier to densely populated cities where people don't want to talk to you at all, I used to feel jaded about cities and thought I hated city folk.

But once I understood what this phenomenon was, it has made it significantly easier to connect with people. I've found that if you don't let the "coldness" of strangers off center you, remain warm and smile back, eventually you can crack the armor and have really good conversations with strangers that wouldn't otherwise happen.

Why YSK: when we react to that shortness with our own shortness, it creates so many instances of needless hostility between people. People who are impersonal in public aren't shitty, miserable, shallow people. It's just their survival strategy at work. It's not impenetrable, but it's important to respect boundaries if they don't seem like they want to connect.

Edit: A lot of people find these concepts helpful, so I built a database of them. It's pinned in my profile.

I’ve been using a 42” LG C-series OLED for years as a computer monitor and it’s been fantastic. Best monitor I’ve ever owned, and that’s all I need it to be. I’ve done the same for my other LG TVs too - if I want to watch a streaming service, I’ll use Apple TV, or a PlayStation, or a Roku. Clearly Smart TVs can’t be trusted in 2025, and that’s okay.

LPT: Buy or Keep an old Android Phone And Use It For Online Purchases To Avoid "Dynamic Pricing"

Many online retailers practice "dynamic pricing" where they adjust prices based on who they think is shopping. People who they think will or can pay more may be shown higher prices.
One proven way this is done is by noting which device you are using to access the site. A new iPhone is an indication the user has more financial resources, or is willing to spend more. An old Android phone is an indication that a user may not have as much to spend.

YSK: There’s a free app and website called Animal Help Now! that can help in unexpected or emergency situations involving injured or sick wildlife or domestic animals.

It gives clear, situation-specific info (e.g., “I found an injured bird,” “I found a wild animal hit by a car,” “I have a bat in my house and don’t know how to get it out”), OR it uses your location to find local “helpers” (basically just experts) who have volunteered to be resources that people can call or even text for advice about animal emergencies. So there are vets, wildlife rehabilitators, etc.

It also includes resources (literally like quick flowcharts and other things that are easy to digest when you're overwhelmed and freaking out about what to do) for things like lost animals, abused or neglected pets, and humane help for wildlife conflicts (e.g., animals in attics or under porches).

Why YSK: anyone can find themselves in a situation where they have an injured or sick animal. Trust me, it can be really uncomfortable mainly because (IMO) seeing an animal in pain and not knowing what TF to do to help it is incrediblyyyy stressful. If you can actually assist the animal in some way its way less scary. And assisting them may be as simple as calling a “helper” who can come get them to give them treatment. If you ever find yourself In this situation It won't occur to you to search for a website like this (vs Google searches and reading through paragraphs trying to discern what to do), so its worth it to have on your phone if you ever need it in the future.
