Superfood Mexican Hot Cocoa Recipe
his fabulous recipe serves 2 cups of creamy goodness!
Hot Cocoa Ingredients
2 c. hot (not boiling) water OR coconut milk, almond milk, rice milk or organic whole milk (see how I make mine with Coconut Manna (butter)
1 heaping TBSP unrefined coconut oil
1 TBSP unsweetened raw cacao powder (rounded to heaping, depending on how chocolatey you like it)
1/2-3/4 (or more if you can handle it!) rounded tsp. turmeric powder
a pinch of cayenne pepper or to taste (needed for proper absorption of turmeric)
1 tsp. maca powder OR chocolate protein powder OR 1 TBSP gelatin powder (optional)
1-2 tsp of maple syrup or honey to taste OR stevia drops to taste
½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
1/2 teaspoon ginger powder, optional
1/2 teaspoon of Himalayan pink salt or sea salt (ones I use daily for minerals – see salt sole)
#1 Blender Method:
Combine ALL ingredients in blender and blend to make a smooth, hot mixture.
Coconut and whole milk make this the most frothy!
Serve immediately while still very warm and enjoy.
#2 Teapot Method:
In a small teapot, add all ingredients and heat.
Just before it boils, remove from heat.
Use a stick blender right in the teapot and blend until frothy. Pour to serve while still very warm. It’s easier for me than a blender, so I’ve dedicated this teapot for this use!

I remember growing up and watching my neighbors spray their yards for dandelions everything spring. When did this become normal?

We also wonder why the bee population is declining. But is it even a question when we spray their first food out of winter? My bees love to forage around on dandelions, my dandelions are humming with bees!
Learning how to forage and use the plants around you is a powerful tool.
The leaves are full of vitamins A, C, and K. Not only that, they have potassium, calcium, and iron in them. The potassium is beneficial for our heart by helping regulate blood pressure. Jam-packed full of nutrients. Great in salads or smoothies.
The root is full of pre-biotic fibers called inulin which serve as food for beneficial gut bacteria. Not only that, the dandelion root has sesquiterpene compounds that support the detoxification of the liver and stimulate the gallbladder. I enjoy dandelion root as a tea!
The dandelion flowers are beautiful and full of antioxidants. You can use in baking or cooking or even to make dandelion jams!
To make dandelion tea, I chop up about 2 tablespoons of dandelion root and steep in hot water for 5-10 minutes. I filter through a cheesecloth. I add in about 3 tablespoons or more of honey because of how bitter the root is. You can adjust to taste. You could steep with the flowers as well!
