Using room outside the android environment.

As an exercise, I had designed a Java artifact and was trying to publish it... but then I realized that If I wanted to use this artifact outside the Android environment it wouldn't work.

I'll post Kotlin code... but I'm aware that I need Java releases of room... for a Java artifact.

I began looking the source code and I realized room is too coupled with the android environment.

for example, line 1256 RoomDatabase.kt:

/**

Is hosting user generated content in your app a bad idea?

I'm currently building an app for a niche hobby (fossil hunting) which will include a forum for id'ing fossils and general discussion and a place to review fossil hunting locations. Of course this would involve uploading images too. Something I only considered just now, is it it a bad idea to allow users to upload their own content to my server? Anyone with experience in this area?...

My first Kotlin Android App

Hey guys! I just started experiencing kotlin and native Android development. I just created this Cocktail Finder app which is my "TODO App" to experience the language (how to make HTTP requests, long lists render, etc..etc..).
Here is the project: https://github.com/Giton22/CocktailFinder-kotlin/
I need to mention that this is my very very first kotlin project ( not android because I already used RN and also some webview alternative). Can ...

Is transitioning to Mobile App Development a good idea for me

I am currently a Software Developer for a large insurance company. I’ve been here 7 months, and I love my team. The problem is I am bored of the work. My expertise so far has been in the area of Identity Access Management. Doing things like provisioning access, writing code that handles how employees get and have access removed from them, etc. I’ll be coming up on a year shortly, and I feel that’s a good time for me to transition to something more interesting for me. I really enjoy mobile app de...

Hello folks, I am looking for a working example with compose + paging3 on how to implement a UP and DOWN infinite scrollable list.

I have a screen where I should show the Todays meetings, upcoming under, and the user should be able to scroll to the history (upwards).

Any help/suggestions will help.

The behaviour should be similar to google calendar

Issue found: Violation of Subscriptions policy - any ideas why?

Yesterday we updated six of our apps. Three of them got rejected due to a Violation of Subscriptions policy. Needless to say that all 6 apps have the exact same upgrade/subscription screen, but only 3 got rejected. The reason for rejection is:
"Your offer does not clearly and accurately describe the terms of your subscription, including the cost, frequency of billing cycle, and whether a subscription is required to use the app"

Below is our upgrade screen. Can anyone spot the issue? Is an...

I just feel like I'm getting nowhere

Hello everyone, I would really like some help on the situation I'm currently in. I initially started my career in Android (and in software development generally) when I was 19. I worked at one company for just short of 3 years, and then another for about 9 months.

Right before I turned 23 I had a devastating nervous breakdown which brought an end to my career for what I thought would be just a few months. Well, I'm here 6 years later at the age of 29 still trying to get up and running in softwa...

Paperize - Wallpaper Changer

Hi! I want to share my free and open-source wallpaper changer app that I created while learning Android development. There are no ads in the app, and I will never add ads to it as I created it solely to learn Android
development.

It's a completely offline (provide-your-own) wallpaper changer. I'll have it up on Playstore and Fdroid soon enough, but it's on Github currently.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. So far, I've heard GIF wallpaper but that's not going to happen due to Wallp...

Horizontal swipe on Jetpack Glance widgets?

Im developing some widgets for android, and ive seen that NothingOS has a music widget which you can swipe left and right on to skip forward and backward. The only way ive found to accomplish this is vertical scrolling, but not horizontal.

The idea is you swipe right and the album cover moves to the left, then the next song plays, and vice versa for previous song. Is there a way to move a Column or Box horizontally only? and set a constraint on how far it can go?

Do you prefer sending integers, doubles, floats or String over the network?

I am wondering if you have a preference on what to send data over the network.
l am gonna give you an example.
Let's say you have a string of gps coordinates on the server:
40.211211,-73.21211

and you split them into two doubles latitude and longitude and do something with it.
Now you have to send those coordinates to the clients and have two options:

- Send those as a String and the client will have also to split the string.
- Send it as Location (basically a wrapper of two doubles...

Starting my career as Java backend engineer but built my resume to start as an Android Developer

I had my first interview with a mid tech American company working in one of their offices in Poland, initially I was supposed to join the Mobile team in which I was greated and welcomed by their manager before my start date.

Few weeks before my start date, HR told me that there will be a reorg happening and I'll instead join a newly built org as a backend engineer with Spring. I was initially okay with that given that I built most of my apps in Java and that I'm still junior, but later on I fel...

Suggestions to a beginner android developer?

I'm new to Kotlin Android development, and I'm currently delving into Jetpack Compose. I'm working on a traditional login and registration process, and I'd like to integrate it with a database like SQLite. However, I'm struggling to find online resources to guide me through it. Whenever I attempt to implement it using XML instead of Jetpack Compose, I face some deprecated features. It's kinda frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestion?...

I have a Singleton Hilt repository that I am injecting into a service which is a custom keyboard.

The issue is that once the app closes the keyboard can no longer use the repository that I am injecting because the repository is killed when my application is killed.

Am I missing something? How can I use my repository to fetch data in my image keyboard IMEService after the application has been closed?

I need to make calls in the keyboard based on user interaction which I think rules out a work ...

Hilt and single activity apps don't make sense together

My team and I have been working on maintaining and older app, after two years we are now at a point where we can realistically migrate the old dagger code to hilt and maybe think of making the app a single activity as recommended by google.
Note: we don't have compose yet, but it is a plan for the next two years.

The issue is, Hilt prouds itself about giving us ready for use components and scopes which is great compared to what we had before. But if we make the app a single activity, we would ...
