Star Wars bag waste after May the Fourth
These are photos I took of our store chucking the rest of the Aurebesh XL bags for Star Wars day.
For those unaware, LEGO Stores had a special promotion for those coming in and buying large Star Wars sets on May the Fourth, XL Paper Bags with the LEGO logo spelled in Aurebesh on one side. A really cool touch for those coming in to get something special for the occasion. However, after the day passed, we had a surplus, probably a few dozen bags left over.
Instead of continuing to give them out for "Revenge of the Fifth" and using what we had, stores were told to rip/cut the bags and throw them out per the official directive from Disney/Lucasfilm, as they were meant to ONLY be given out on May the Fourth.
Having worked with LBR for many years now, I was very disappointed to see the direction LBR and Disney/Lucasfilm went regarding this incredibly wasteful move. There's plenty of other wasteful things that occur on the part of the retail stores, but this seemed particularly egregious for something that would've been so minor, and probably would've all been given away during Sunday/the rest of the week anyway.
I understand these are paper and will degrade eventually, but "Reduce" and "Reuse" are before "Recycle" for a reason, these never needed to be waste in the first place. They went through the trouble of having these bags made in Jielong and shipped over here, only to throw away half of them for the sake of exclusivity on the 4th, when surely not everyone can make it on a busy Saturday at a very popular toy store.
But they have a "Planet Promise..." sure. Just wanted to put this out there, nothing against my coworkers or those following the official guidelines, but I was more than a little peeved at this.
