Disney+ Unfair Restrictions
I’m a Belgian travelling in Sri Lanka with my wife and son.
Before departing I told my son to download some content but told him also, we would have WiFi in the hotels so he could watch or download some stuff later on.
Now, because Disney+ is not available in Sri Lanka, there’s no content available.
The app even deleted the downloaded content!!
How is this justifiable?
They can easily install a 2FA, to make sure it’s me who’s accessing my account.
Who cares where I am. My account originates from a country where Disney+ is available.
Not renewing my subscription for sure…. Sailing in a different direction!

What are y'all using nowadays to rip DVDs?
I just found an entire container of DVDs inside my storage building and I want to rip them to my computer to put them on my Plex server.
What's everybody using nowadays to accomplish this?
Ripping the disc where if there's any bonus content on the disc would be ripped with, it would be a plus.

I know nothing
I have my younger brother visiting me for the first time and I'm kinda offline so to speak, I don't know much tech at all and I usually use cable, could anyone help me if there was any way to make a usb stick or something with TV shows and movies on it? I have no idea what I'm doing but he's never visited and I don't want him to be bored as I have no WiFi or anything like that. He's 16 so WiFi is his life but I want him to appreciate the older years but I also appreciate we are in the modern day and my lifestyle isn't his lifestyle.

I just want to gush a bit about how awesome Jellyfin is
I've been downloading stuff for over 2 decades but until this year, I've been limited to watching it on my PC or transferring it to a relatively small USB drive that I would plug into the TV. It wasn't always convenient, but it worked well enough that I never stopped doing it. Also had Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Paramount+, and an on again/off again Disney subscription because my wife likes to scroll.
I saw someone mention Jellyfin in a random comment a few months ago and I had never heard of it before, so I figured I'd check it out. Since then we've ditched all of our video streaming subscriptions except Hulu (it's bundled with my Spotify account, which would cost more separately).
My absolute favorite part about it is not having to scroll through a bunch of stuff we will never care about – everything on it is there because we wanted it. Everything we like is on one app with no ads, no subscription, and no filler to sift through. We don't have previews blaring at us every time we stop on something, and no episodes have been banned due to other people's sensibilities. This is all I've ever wanted from TV.
I also like being able to make playlists of videos. I can have seasonal playlists, chronological cinematic universes, or just weave shows together to make my own TV channels to use as background noise. I wondered why this feature has never existed for paid streaming services, until I realized that people's lists would be changed every time a show or movie got removed from any given service (yet another issue I will never have again).
The only downside is that we can only watch it when we're at home, on a device that is connected to the same network as my PC. I know it's possible to make it remotely accessible, but I don't currently have the knowledge, space, or budget to set up my own dedicated server. Even so, we don't travel very often and mostly watch stuff at home anyway.
I strongly recommend trying it out if you're a video collector who doesn't already know about it!

Do crackers make money off of it?
Or are they dependent on donations only?

I haven’t really pirated in over 10 years. Where to start?
When I was young I pirated everything. P2p stuff and torrents. Eventually i switched over to the streaming/ paying services because it was easier. Now I really want to watch the new walking dead stuff but it’s unavailable in the uk. I wouldn’t even know where to find torrents these days as the pirate bay was my last go-to site and is blocked everywhere. I don’t have a vpn right now. Do people still use the u-torrent client? Is there anything I should be aware of using torrents in this day and age? What’s a good torrent site?
I imagine these questions are ridiculous for those in the loop but I’m so far out the loop I thought I’d just ask.

What's everyone's preferred resolution?
As a community who has direct and measurable control over their resolutions, I figured this would be the perfect place to ask.
I used to want the highest, but honestly, watching TNG and DS9 I've realized how comfortable lower resolution TV is. 1080p is my max at this point, and I don't immediately cringe when I see 480 or 720 in a Downloads title.
Expect for LOTR I don't have anything 4k

Movies on YouTube aren’t being copyrighted
I don’t know who else has noticed it, but very recently, just 2 to 3 days ago, I’ve had many movies recommended to me on YouTube. I don’t mean the <50k view video of unpopular movies, I know those have always been there. I mean theatre blockbusters such as Avengers, Mission Impossible, James Bond. Full complete movies on YouTube with over 100k views. The video does not zoom in every few minutes, it shows up full screen not on a small box in one corner. My assumption was that there’s a bug in the YouTube copyright system. Also something to note is a lot of these videos are tagged as Fundraiser videos, what are they fundraising, I don’t know. Does anyone know why or how this is happening? I’m glad to watch movies on YouTube again, last this was available was in the early days of YouTube, but I’m still curious.
Avengers Endgame video has crossed 500k views and still hasn’t been taken down.

How strict is Canada on piracy?
I'm wonder how strict Canada is on piracy. I've heard places like USA and Germany are super strict. Also would I need to use a VPN for torrenting? (I know I should but they cost money)

PSA: My first DMCA for a FitGirl torrent, first DMCA ever for a PC game
Got nailed for a FitGirl torrent from a year ago. Even weirder is I downloaded the same thing when it released back in 2023. I use FitGirl a lot, mostly torrents, this was the first DMCA I've ever gotten for a game, ever, in 30 years of sailing the high seas.
It was Ratchet and Clank A Rift Apart. Guess it makes sense that Sony is active in protecting their interests but that's the end of my time rawdogging torrents. It's VPN time.
