Just wanted to say hats off to Russians for all that they do for pirating communities
Listen, everyone from every country in the world contributes to making piracy possible, but recently I've been impressed by how often Russians in particular are the backbone of important piracy operations, from the good folks at Z Library, to Yandex, to how active the Russians in my very niche piracy telegram groups are. We see you, we salute you, thank you for your service lol.

Current streaming services have turned into paying to watch ads
I was visiting a friend who introduced me to The Boys series. He pays for Amazon Prime so he fired it up on his TV.
I was stricken aback when there were ads during the episode. He said he doesn't care because he is too lazy to set up Plex or local streaming service from his PC.
I am absolutely flabbergasted.
We went from the TV era where we payed a subscription to watch channels with exclusive shows that showed ads. Then everyone rejoiced when Netflix came which offered a paid service to stream without ads. Now we are back to the TV era where we are paying a service for exclusive shows and must watch ads.
Disgusting.
I don't care how complicated it is, I still pirate everything, even if it takes me two minutes to set up my laptop and monitor in front of the sofa.
Fuck ads. Fuck corporate culture.

Just letting everyone over here know in case you don't lurk in r/opensignups. This is a mid-level tracker and not for beginners, but if you have 6+ months experience and 2-3 proofs from other trackers, this might be your chance.

New contract sent out by Hulu
I'm not sure if this goes against the rules of this sub, but I just received an email regarding contract updates with Hulu. It essentially states that even the ad-free, which I pay for, may soon start showing ads. I think as a Nation world people, we should come together and say enough is enough. We're tired of all these streaming services—Netflix, ESPN, Prime—constantly raising prices and adding more ads just to boost their revenue. Let's all agree to cancel our subscriptions in October this year and see what happens.", ads are why years ago I was partying movies TV series if I want your fucking product I will come find your fucking product stop shoving it down my throat. Along with interrupting my binge watching of Captain Kangaroo

With all these posts about the USA and "scrubbing gov data", "deleting everything", "wiping databases" and all that, it's good to remind everyone that piracy (and data hoarding) are sometimes not only a good thing, but essential to safekeeping the truth, be it past or present, good or bad.
I'm not American, but it's completely insane and absolutely disheartening to see people post about whole government databases and sites be wiped clean, even medical information.
I would call it insane if a random site wiped their old forums, let alone a government.
Same goes for banning books. It's 2025, how is this still a thing?
Don't let anyone, from the richest man on earth to your mom to your god, restrict your access to information of any kind. Access should be a given, what you do with it is your own problem to solve.

Apple Just Broke the App Store for older Macs
You might be lead here by an error from the macOS App Store that reads:
An unexpected error occurred while signing in
The data couldn't be read because it isn't in the correct format.
On the Jan 24th 2025 the App Store changed the way purchase receipt signing is done by a change of encryption from SHA-1 to SHA-256, leaving older versions of macOS unable to run legitimately purchased software obtained through the App Store as you will no longer be able to sign in to the App Store, which you can read in detail here - TN3138: Handling App Store receipt signing certificate changes.
As a result, do not expect to be able to run any of your legacy software on your legacy systems infinitely after this date as it will eventually cease to run requiring you to sign in to the App Store to renew the purchase receipt - which you will be unable to.
I advise effected users to obtain versions of their software from other sauces (🏴☠️) before its lost to the ages of the internet.
This issue is due to a significant change Apple made on January 24, 2025, switching the encryption method for App Store purchase receipt signing from SHA-1 to SHA-256. Unfortunately, older macOS versions do not support this change, meaning you will no longer be able to sign in to the App Store. As a result, any App Store-purchased software that requires periodic receipt renewal will stop working once the receipt expires.
Legacy software purchased through the App Store will eventually cease to run.
You cannot sign in to the App Store on older systems to renew purchase receipts.
Seek alternative sources/replacements for the software you wish to continue using: Consider obtaining versions of critical apps from trusted sources (yes, even some unofficial ones 🏴☠️) before they’re lost forever.
