What happened to all the high res scans of the ~500,000 books removed from archive.org?
I used to use MZCacheView to grab the high res jpeg's of each page, then save them all to a PDF. I know the books are mainly on e.g. annas-archive, but the quality is usually shocking.
Is there any way to still be able to get at the originals? Have they leaked anywhere or was there a r/Datahoarder call to arms to grab them?

I pirate every show I watch and, if I like it, I buy it after I am done.
I do not like the idea of having to pay money to see something and then they just keep the money if whatever I am watching is dog shit.
At the same time, a lot of people put a lot of work into making shows and movies, and I feel bad for not rewarding that work when it is done well.
So, if I finish watching something and I enjoyed it, I buy it from the most direct source I can find.

With torrent galaxy gone, what other sites offer shows by the season?
I hate having to download episodes individually , only ever done it with ongoing shows, my beloved TG offered these episodes all packaged into a single torrent, havent seen this filter offered by other sites, I mean beggars cant be choosers but if anybody knows how I could filter for these sort of packs Id be very thankful

Looney Tunes pulled off Max
I don't really understand what possible upside there is to removing some of the most popular and culturally significant cartoons of all time, but as I'm sure folks know, Max removed all the OG looney tunes last month. My toddler is asking for bugs bunny, and the best I can do is digging through Torrentio for stuff that only works some of the time. Unacceptable.
I will not be caught at the mercy of Zaslav in this regard ever again.

Switch 2 is incredibly anti-consumer and I can't wait to see it get hacked
So today Nintendo finally showcased the Switch 2 and I can't believe how greedy and anti-consumer they've gotten.
1. Switch 2 Welcome Tour is a paid title. It's basically an interactive manual, similar to the one that comes with Steam Deck explaining the console's functionality. No price announced yet but the fact that it's a paid title is incredibly messed up.
2. They're also raising the price for their first party titles. Mario Kart World will sell for 80$. Knowing Nintendo I assume none of their games will ever go on sale.
3. Oh and how about enjoying Zelda TOTK, a game you already own, on the upgraded hardware? Wanna unlock higher framerate and other settings? Better pay up for that upgrade. Not even Sony is that greedy, most first party PS4 titles received free patches for PS5 unlocking higher framerates so you could easily enjoy your games with better settings for free.
All in all they clearly got too greedy. After seeing the success of Switch 1 they think they bank on childhood nostalgia and milk their users for even more cash.
Idk if hacking the Switch 2 is even possible and if it is, it'll probably take a looong time but I really hope someone manages to jailbreak the hardware and bypass all their bs. This type of anti-consumer practice is simply inexcusable.

Where do you guys get your FLAC files?
I used to use QBDLX up until last month. Then I realized that 95% of what I play is the exact albums over and over again. So I stop burning those 16$ a month and Icancelled my Qobuz subscription. Must say I really miss how easy it was copy paste and then get FLACs in perfect quality.
Is there anything similar in which I don’t have to pay? (Or pay very little ) Something like Radarr or Lidarr or an independent Windows software that grabs it from Deezer or something .
Honestly o switched from Qobuz to iBroadcast and I haven’t looked back only $3 a month and I know my songs and albums won’t disappear overnight ..

Just getting my sea legs, and have a few questions on torrenting
Hi, please bare with me as I'm only just barely starting to get my sea legs lol
I have few questions that I couldn't find answers to in the wiki or megathread (unless I just missed them). Are torrents only for movies / tv shows, or do they include other things? Are they just files that are .torrent ? And will downloading games that are in .rar file get me an ISP complaint? I have no interest in downloading video media, just a couple games and need to know if doing so will cause problems.
I do not have a way to get a VPN at the moment (incredibly broke, hence pirating) and I live with my parents still who are against piracy, so I really don't want to be getting those kinds of letters in the mail. I already downloaded one game (around 700MB) and now I'm panicking a bit as I don't know if that would get me in trouble. If it helps, my legal name isn't tied to my computer or accounts, and I am in the US.

Where do i download 24bit /96kHz music?
I got a headphones that supports 24bit/ 96khz audio. So I wanted to download music but was only able to fine 196kbps audio.
I don't have the option to pay for tidal or apple music as Internet is a huge issue and also the pricing is out of my budget.
Please suggest me something so I can listen to high quality audio.
Btw I have a Playlist of about 440 songs i absolutely need. And I don't want to download them one by one. Its ok as a last resort.

Bad game companies, developers and players are big drivers for Piracy
I am 46yo and I have to say I am sick and tired of the gaming industry and their greed towards making games that are buggier every year. Games in the 90's and early 2000's had to be free of game breaking bugs because few had internet to download patches (I remember downloading my first patch in 1999 and it was for a ridiculous day-one bug on Freespace (the space fighter game), for a couple of years next, I downloaded a patch here and there NOT because I had found a bug, but because they had balance tweaks and sometimes fixed a bug! But today, games are released with hundreds of glitches and bugs, several game breaking bugs and don't even get started with CTD or optimization hell. And you would be a fool to think these will be fixed in the short period of time companies devote to fix post-release to their game. Yes there are exceptions, but they are what, 1%?
Its like you purchasing a car that you don't know if it will actually get past 30kph, if the gears will work, if the painel actually displays correct information, or even if won't explode after 1000Km. And they want you to pay premium for it just because of the pretty paintjob (that will, obvously, peel of as soon as you leave the dealership).
To make things worse, developers will also pretty much not care that their products are bullcrap. SO MANY GAMES I play have serious bugs in them, some with lenghty threads on "official forums" but that are never addressed, including known CTDs or game breaking bugs. Developers don't care - their product is falling apart but they are investing on a new cosmetic DLC.
Which brings me to the players. Yes the players. The players who, despite not being able to play properly their game, to need mods or bypasses to complete the game, will still chime in for the DLC, and defend the developers with stuff like "Do you know how hard it is to make this game?" Oh I heard this so many times, and as a developer myself, I know the answer; yes, I know, and I also know how easy it is to fix a damn well defined bug. Complacency among the player base is just validating and fueling companies to continue crap.
Take for instance Microsoft Flight Simulator. The 2020 version crap have bugs everywhere, it is unstable, lots of CTD, and several of the bugs have dozens of pages of reports, dating years back, and guess if anybody cares? nope. Not only they did not fix the glaring bugs, they released a new version that is just a dressup from the old one, with double the bugs, and asked AAA pricing. Now, there are two active version both known to be a bug fests but, lo and behold, loved by their fans.
Even some indie developers sometimes will fall for it. I love a indie game that some of you might even know (Kings and Castles) and I have reported a couple of bugs (on Steam, their discord and even talked to a dev about a YEAR ago). Well, the bug is still there, the game reached 1.0 final and the devs moved on.
Recently I reported a serious bug on Flight Simulator (that affects both 2020 and 2024 versions), and I found that one of the most reported bugs on their forums IS said bug. I chipped in just to add to the chorus, and then I went to create a zendesk report. Their response? "Can you make a video recording of the bug so we can confirm?" ... THERE ARE DOZENS OF PAGES of people complaining about the bug, but they want me to record it. Even more pathetic is what they say after that: if you don't send us an update, we will consider the issue resolved. WHA?
Since the time I have disposable income, I buy my games. Yes sometimes I will get a pirate version to "test" the game, but if I like it, I go out and buy it (on a sale ;). But as games get buggier, developers dumber and their support more and more useless, I am starting to wonder. Do even the ones I like deserve my money if they have bugs that nobody cares?
The answer is no.
THANKYOU for all the community that allows us to "trial" - sometimes to the endgame - these shitty products. You wouldn't buy a defective dangerous car
