China announced Friday that it will impose a 34% tariff on imports of all U.S. products beginning April 10, part of a flurry of retaliatory measures following U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” slate of double-digit tariffs.
The new tariff matches the rate of the U.S. “reciprocal” tariff of 34% on Chinese exports Trump ordered this week.
The Commerce Ministry in Beijing also said in a notice that it will impose more export controls on rare earths, which are materials used in high-tech products such as computer chips and electric vehicle batteries.

Jeep maker Stellantis said on Thursday it will temporarily pause production at two plants: one in Windsor, Canada plant and another in Toluca, Mexico.
As a result, there will be temporarily layoffs for 900 employees at their American plants. Those locations include Warren Stamping and Sterling Stamping plants in Michigan as well as the Indiana Transmission, Kokomo Transmission and Kokomo Casting plants in Indiana.
The company said it's doing this as it assesses the medium and long-term effects of tariffs. The Trump administration's 25% auto tariff took effect earlier Thursday.

A deal to spin off the U.S. assets of TikTok was put on hold after China indicated that it would not approve the deal following President Trump's reciprocal tariffs announcement, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
The deal, the structure of which was largely finalized by Wednesday, according to one of the sources, would have spun off TikTok's U.S. operations into a new company based in America and owned and operated by a majority of U.S. investors. ByteDance would hold a minority position of under 20%.
The deal was approved by existing investors, new investors, ByteDance and the U.S. government, the source said.

Apple CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday sold off more than $24 million worth of Apple stock, according to a filing with the SEC. Cook sold off the 108,136 shares that he had received on April 1 when his restricted stock units (RSUs) vested.
The RSUs that vested yesterday were part of a time-based stock award that Cook was granted back in 2020. One-third of the shares vested in 2023, one-third in 2024, and the final third vested on April 1. The shares that were sold today were put in Cook’s trust.

The former daytime TV doctor turned politician will be in charge of nearly $1.5 trillion in federal healthcare spending. His duties will entail overseeing Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), including directing decisions related to how the government covers procedures, hospital stays and medication, as well as the reimbursement rates at which healthcare providers get paid for their services.

I don't know who these judges think they are. ICE arrests an illegal for deportation and a judge is holding the ICE agent in contempt.
This article tries to make it sound like this illegal immigrant was in the middle of an immigration trial, but he wasn't. He was in the middle of a trial where he is being accused of making false statements on a driver's license application.
These activist judges really need to be pushed back to their own lane.

Vice President Vance said Thursday that billionaire Elon Musk will remain a “friend and an adviser” to the White House after Musk departs from his role as a special government employee next month.
Musk is leading the efforts of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to shrink the size and scope of the federal government, but his special government employee status will expire at the end of May. Vance made clear that Musk would not exit President Trump’s orbit once he leaves his official government role, however.
“Of course he is going to continue being an adviser. And by the way, the work of DOGE is not even close to done. The work of Elon is not even close to done,” Vance told “Fox & Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones in an interview.
“DOGE has got a lot of work to do. And yeah, that work is going to continue after Elon leaves,” Vance continued. “But fundamentally, Elon is going to remain a friend and an adviser of both me and the president. And he’s done a lot of good things. People don’t realize how vast and uncontrolled the bureaucracy was. We’ve started to chip away at it, but there’s a lot of work to do. It’s not going to happen all in six months, it’s going to take a long and committed effort.”

They also knew America's economic engine which had primarily been driven by government jobs needed to be re-tooled to rely on private sector employment.
The economic reset in America will cause investor fear which will shake financial markets. Trump and Bessent are expecting this.
Their goals are to reduce the yield on the 10-year treasury, and force the Fed to lower the prime rate. If those things happen, the economy will respond favorably.

The tariffs on China increased to 54% due to an existing 20% tariff.
