US vote-swapping scheme raises questions about election integrity
A new program that aims to uplift third-party and disenfranchised voters in swing states promises to “protest the system and defeat Trump.”
The Swap Your Vote scheme, which pairs these voters with individuals in non-swing states, encourages them to vote strategically for the Democratic candidate in exchange for the non-swing state voter casting a ballot for their preferred third-party or protest candidate.
Objectively, this practice could undermine the democratic principle of individual choice and could potentially lead to voter manipulation, particularly given the sharing of contact information between matched voters.
According to the website’s own data, over 11,965 (and counting) voters across the US have used the service - presumably in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
