Lightning strikes Peruvian footballer dead during regional tournament
A tragic incident occurred during a regional football tournament in Chilca, Peru when lightning struck and killed a player, Jose, while injuring four others.
The 24-year-old defender was struck as he walked towards the changing rooms after the referee halted play due to an intense thunderstorm.
Goalkeeper Juan Chocca Llacta, 40, was also seriously injured, suffering burns and being rushed to hospital in a taxi - two teenagers, aged 16 and 19, and another player, Cristian Cesar Pituy Cahuana, 24, were also hospitalized but are reported to be in stable condition.
