BBC draws flak for naming transgender scientist among ‘women of the year’
Critics have slammed the BBC's decision to name Colombian transgender scientist Brigitte Baptiste - known for a 2018 TED Talk on gender in nature - in its 2024’s 100 Women list as "insulting".
Baptiste defended the inclusion, having previously argued that it made sense to do away with ideas of 'naturalness' in nature, saying: “There is nothing more queer than nature”.
Nature, or maybe a random Netflix show; it’s a tie.

Un-American?: New Jersey council’s ‘props’ ban sparks outrage
The city council of Edison, New Jersey, kicked several locals out of a meeting after they waved an American flag and the Constitution in protest of a new rule banning "props" during public comments.
Council President Nishit Patel defended the ban, claiming the flag and Constitution were "not conducive to good order," although residents argued that treating such items as mere props was not only disrespectful but bordering on un-American.
Government overreach and a First Amendment violation, all neatly packaged in one meeting.
