Apollo Research specialists found that in 5% of cases, the new version of OpenAI's ChatGPT, called o1 intentionally turned off the monitoring mechanisms if it suspected that it might be stopped.
In one test it even tried to transfer its data to another server after discovering a document where its replacement with a new version was discussed.
Researchers said ChatGPT o1 demonstrated a desire to complete tasks "at any cost", ignoring the instructions and repeatedly lying when asked to explain anomalies, claiming that everything was due to technical failures.

Germany, Austria mulls sending back Syrian refugees
Chancellor Karl Hehammer has instructed his interior ministry to review all asylum applications granted, with nationalist lawmakers pushing for the repatriation of the tens of thousands of Syrian refugees in Austria, arguing their reason for asylum had now disappeared.
Alternative for Germany MP Sebastian Münzenmaier, meanwhile, cited the Syrians across Germany celebrating the fall of President Assad's government as a sign that it's "time for these people to leave Germany."
There are over 47,000 asylum applications from Syrians pending in Germany - where there are already 974,136 people of Syrian origin resident - and 7,300 in Austria. Both countries have suspended fresh applications.
