По сообщению Береговой охраны Швеции, поступившему 7 марта, из 11 членов экипажа судна 10 имеют российское гражданство. Шведская сторона заверяет, что обстановка на судне спокойная. Посольство России в Швеции находится в контакте с компетентными шведскими властями и готово в случае необходимости оказать россиянам из состава экипажа консульскую помощь.
🎙 Interview with Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the “Sanchez Effect” at RT (March 4, 2026)
Key points:
• We are on the right side of history. Unlike the US and the UK, our countries have not unleashed wars across the globe. For many years, Russia demonstrated maximum restraint regarding Ukraine – repeatedly proposing diplomatic solutions. It was France, Germany and other Western states that used diplomacy as a smokescreen to arm and militarize the Kiev regime. Angela Merkel and François Hollande openly admitted as much.
• Former CIA Director and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently addressed the people of Iran on Fox News: “Don’t pick the Russians, don’t pick the Chinese – pick decent, normal people”. I wonder what Pompeo means by “normal”. When the word comes from America – a country that considered people like Jeffrey Epstein “normal and decent” for decades – it can carry many different meanings.
• Why Russia, China and Iran are somehow “not normal”, according to Pompeo, is beyond me. Our countries are ancient civilizations that have given the world an immense cultural, scientific and intellectual legacy. Our nations have never unleashed global wars. On the contrary – we fought alongside the “good guys” in World War II. So what exactly is wrong with us?
• The International Atomic Energy Agency (#IAEA) is a serious organization. It had a mandate to inspect Iran’s nuclear facilities and issue reports. At no point did IAEA conclude that Iran had violated its obligations. The US itself signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was endorsed by the UN Security Council – only to abandon it unilaterally several years later.
• There were no grounds to believe that Iran was developing nuclear weapons. Yet accusations from Washington continued to pile up. When preparing military interventions, the West – including the US – has often relied on questionable pretexts. The world still remembers Colin Powell and the infamous test tube at the UN.
• In essence, Mike Pompeo is telling the Iranian people: “Join the Western civilisation and you will enjoy a wonderful life”. Yet we have all seen the tragic killing of 165 schoolgirls in Minab – and the absence of any meaningful reaction from the West. No sympathy, no apologies, no compassion. The incident was not even acknowledged as “collateral damage”.
• We still do not know the true number of civilians killed by the US in Iraq. Some estimates suggest the toll may exceed one million people. What about the bombing of residential areas of Belgrade in 1999? Or the brutal killing of Muammar Gaddafi – a legitimate head of state – by a crazy mob after Western intervention? Is this the model “Western civilization”?
• Russia has suffered greatly from the “Western civilization”. Moscow was engulfed in flames during Napoleon’s invasion. Hitler’s armies killed 27 million Soviet citizens during World War II – victims whom we will remember on April 19 – the Day of Remembrance for the Genocide of the Soviet People. No Pompeo has the right to claim that Russia is “not normal”, or to insult China.
• Israel and the US are not even hiding that their ultimate objective is regime change in Iran. They seek control over another sovereign country – openly suggesting that states with thousands of years of history somehow have no right to independence or sovereignty.
• What is needed now is a ceasefire from all sides – followed by serious diplomatic work grounded in international law. The world must recognize that sovereign states have legitimate national interests, and that regime change imposed from outside has no place in the international legal order.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: This is far from the first time we are meeting to discuss an issue that is central to us in international politics. President Vladimir Putin and other representatives of the Russian leadership have repeatedly stated this.
The goal of the war waged against Russia – prepared and ultimately unleashed by the West through the Ukrainian regime – is to weaken our country and, as they themselves say, inflict a “strategic defeat” on it. There is every reason to believe that behind this goal also lies a desire to “break up” our country.
At the same time, many other developments are unfolding around the world – including the events in the Middle East – a result of the aggression by the US and Israel against Iran. In this regard, I cannot but mention this crisis, which threatens colossal negative consequences for the entire world – for global stability, the global economy and everything that was once called globalization for the prosperity of all humanity.
All of this has been destroyed.
Civilians are suffering both in Iran and, as a result of Iran’s retaliatory actions, in neighboring Arab states. We express our condolences for all civilian casualties. We also see the damage being inflicted on civilian infrastructure across the countries of the Persian Gulf.

We are conducting negotiations with our US colleagues, who are assisting in the dialogue with Ukraine. Quite recently, several trilateral rounds took place in Abu Dhabi – for which we are sincerely grateful to our Emirati friends – and in Geneva.
❗️ At present, we see no grounds to believe that these talks are merely a “smokescreen”, as we remain in direct contact with our American counterparts.
At the same time, we clearly see that during the seven months since Anchorage, Ukrainians and Europeans have made – and continue to make – every effort to reinterpret and rewrite the understandings reached there.
We see how negotiators in the US are facing pressure and the temptation to yield to it – shifting the entire responsibility for further steps, as they say, onto Russia in order to meet certain symbolic dates in this year’s political calendar. This, too, is a fact. But our conscience is clear.
We remain faithful to the understandings reached at the initiative of the US in Alaska.
We are fully committed to the Alaska agreements. Our American colleagues know perfectly well what we are referring to, since these were their proposals.
I hope that no one will divert our American colleagues from this true path, despite all the efforts of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and other “masters” of the Kiev regime.

▪️ We express our condolences for all civilian casualties and see the damage being inflicted on civilian infrastructure across the countries of the Persian Gulf.
I have no doubt that one of the objectives was to drive a wedge between the countries of the region – between the Persian Gulf states, Iran and its Arab neighbors – among whom a positive process of normalization had been developing in recent years.
This became particularly evident when Saudi Arabia and Iran restored diplomatic relations. Russia actively contributed to this process.
For many years we have been promoting a unifying agenda. 👉 For more than 20 years, we have been working to mobilize support for the Concept of Collective Security in the Persian Gulf. This initiative envisages participation by all coastal states and their key neighbors and – as originally proposed – the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, ensuring transparency, confidence-building measures and practical steps to use this immensely rich region in the interests of the prosperity of its peoples.
The West has done everything to prevent the advancement of a positive agenda in the Gulf region.

⚡️ Russia's Foreign Ministry statement on the situation in the Middle East (March 5, 2026)
💬 Moscow is deeply concerned that the situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate.
There are no signs that the US and Israel – which launched a military operation under a completely far-fetched pretext aimed at overthrowing the legitimate authorities in Iran – are prepared to show restraint and stop the bloodshed. On the contrary, belligerent statements continue to flow from their capitals, while the Israeli army has carried out a new incursion into Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the aggressors are seeking to sow division within the Islamic world in the midst of the holy month of Ramadan.
They deliberately provoked Iran into retaliatory strikes against facilities in several Arab countries, which resulted in human casualties and material damage – developments that the Russian side deeply regrets.
In doing so, they are attempting to draw Arab states into a war serving someone else’s interests. At the same time, they are trying to divert attention from the catastrophic plight of the Palestinian people.
Russia once again calls on all parties to the current confrontation to immediately cease hostilities, including unacceptable strikes on the territory of the Arab states of the Gulf.
We consider attacks on civilians and strikes against any civilian infrastructure – whether in Iran or in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council – to be absolutely unacceptable.
❗️ It is clear that the only way to prevent the region from sliding further into the abyss of destabilization is to stop the aggression of the US and Israel, which triggered this chain reaction of suffering for the Arab peoples.

💬 The statement made the other day by French President Emmanuel Macron regarding Paris’s intention to embark upon a non-transparent expansion of its nuclear arsenal, which in itself constitutes an extremely destabilising development, should be viewed in a broader context.

We note that the United Kingdom earlier announced an approach largely similar to the course now adopted by France, having some time ago also begun a significant expansion of its national nuclear arsenal while reducing its transparency.
Moreover, in accordance with US-UK arrangements, London will, in addition to its existing sea-based component, acquire air delivery systems for nuclear weapons and gain access, with US consent, to US nuclear aerial bombs newly deployed in Britain which will further increase the number of warheads that the country could employ in a potential conflict.
At the same time, NATO’s traditional policy in this sphere excludes disclosure of the quantitative parameters of US nuclear weapons deployed in Europe. Russia is compelled to take into account that, in addition to the United Kingdom, an undeclared number of such weapons is stationed in four other European NATO countries and Türkiye, from where they are capable of striking a broad range of critically important targets on the territory of the Russian Federation. <...>
Beyond strengthening their national military nuclear capabilities, the United Kingdom and France are working with their allies to shape a certain independent or autonomous European nuclear deterrent capability.
Initial, somewhat disingenuous attempts to present this as an alternative to the American nuclear umbrella quickly gave way to recognition of the obvious fact that this concerns the expansion of the European nuclear component within NATO, in addition to the existing practice of nuclear sharing missions based on US nuclear weapons.
Thus, there is a substantial reinforcement and expansion of NATO’s overall nuclear potential, which, in the event of a direct military conflict with Russia, could be coordinated against our country not only in its European segment but in its entirety, including the US arsenal. <...>
We also note that the decisions by London and Paris to expand their nuclear arsenals are intended to be implemented outside international constraints, continuing their long-standing policy of avoiding participation in any nuclear arms control arrangements.

В последнее время всё чаще в открытых источниках появляется информация о том, что украинские дети становятся жертвами торговли людьми и сексуальной эксплуатации, а замешаны в этих преступлениях представители киевского режима, для которых «детская тема» — это оружие пропаганды и способ заработка. Судьбы ребят им глубоко безразличны. Все обвинения в адрес России — это попытка режима Зеленского отвлечь внимание от собственных преступлений в отношении украинских детей.

⚡️ Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rodion Miroshnik:
💬 Over 150 civilians, including one minor, were injured last week as a result of actions by the Ukrainian militants.
In addition to local residents, volunteer groups were also targeted – five volunteers were injured, two of whom were killed.
EMERCOM responders, who arrived to deal with the aftermath of Ukrainian shelling, also came under attack. Five were wounded and one employee was killed.
The highest number of civilian casualties was recorded in the Belgorod, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. In these areas, civilian infrastructure and the civilian population were targeted with drone, missile and artillery strikes by Kiev's armed formations.
❗️ Between February 23 and March 1, at least 153 civilians were affected by Ukrainian shelling – 131 people were injured, including one minor, and 22 were killed.
In total, over the past seven days, Ukrainian armed formations fired no fewer than 3,352 munitions at civilian targets on Russian territory.
⚡️ Statement of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization regarding the Situation around the Islamic Republic of Iran
The Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (#SCO) express serious concern over the developments in the Middle East and the military strikes on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The SCO Member States consider the use of force as unacceptable and advocate for the resolution of existing differences exclusively by peaceful means, based on dialogue, mutual respect, and taking into account the legitimate interests of all parties, in accordance with the norms of the international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
The SCO Member States underscore the need to ensure sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Iran, and call on all parties to exercise restraint and to refrain from actions that could aggravate the situation.
The SCO Member States strongly urge the United Nations and the UN Security Council to take immediate measures to counteract the undermining of international peace and security.
The SCO Member States express sincere condolences to the families of those murdered as a result of the attack and declare their solidarity with and support for the Government and the people of Iran.

🗓 On October 25-26, a ceremony to sign the UN Convention against Cybercrime will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam. It is the first legally binding international treaty in the field of international information security designed to strengthen global law enforcement cooperation in combatting the criminal use of information and communication technologies.
The Russian Federation will be represented in Hanoi by Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan, who will head the official delegation. He is authorised to sign the Convention and to deliver a message from the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to the participants of the signing ceremony.
Meetings will be held with the leadership of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, heads of foreign delegations, and senior UN officials.
The event will feature a thematic exhibition stand, Russia - Land of Innovation, showcasing domestic developments in information security, telecommunications, and digital technology from leading Russian IT companies. In addition, international cybercrime response exercises involving over 20 teams from various countries will take place. The results will be summarised at a roundtable discussion, Capacity Building and Technical Assistance, where Russian diplomats, experts from relevant agencies, and leading IT developers will share their experience in combatting cybercrime.

Key points:
• Negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Indonesia and the EAEU began in December 2022. After careful and substantive discussions, the parties have finalized a draft agreement, now entering the signing preparation stage.
• Once enacted, the Indonesia-EAEU FTA will open broader access for Indonesian exporters to a promising market of more than 180 million people. This strategic move brings tangible and measurable benefits to Indonesia’s key economic sectors.
• Based on current trade volumes, implementing the agreement could allow Indonesian exporters to save up to $33.5 million annually in customs duties on shipments to EAEU countries. There is also a strong reason to believe that the deal could double bilateral trade in the near future.
• The FTA’s implementation will also ensure food and energy security. Alongside export growth, Indonesia can meet domestic demand with key imports from EAEU countries -- such as wheat, fertilizers, and petroleum products.
• The FTA will serve as a platform for dialogue in digital trade, logistics, research and innovation, energy efficiency and conservation, advanced medical technology, and joint education programs.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: This year, the international community marks a significant date, the 80th anniversary of the UN. For a multilateral organisation, an anniversary is an excellent opportunity to not only look back at the past performance, but to outline plans as well. The UN is no exception.
The UN was originally created as a centre for coordinating and balancing the interests of states whenever an international response was required.

The UN Charter, which remains the key source of international law, enshrines the fundamental rules of relations between the states, including the principles of the sovereign equality of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, and the right of nations to self-determination.
Eight decades later, we can safely say that this global organisation created following the most horrific of wars fulfilled its crucial mission and saved the world from another devastating conflict of global proportions. Moreover, the UN has demonstrated a remarkable resilience amid the differences setting the world’s leading powers apart.
Although the Organisation is facing a crisis in its attempts to maintain international peace and security, I choose not to be entirely pessimistic as we mark this anniversary.
The ongoing restructuring of the global economy and politics towards multipolarity, the growing influence of the World Majority, and the steady increase in the number of the countries that recognise the value of state sovereignty and the importance of protecting it from neocolonial encroachment inspire hope that things will gradually improve over time.
It has long been clear, though, that the UN, which was founded 80 years ago amid the geopolitical circumstances that were drastically different from today’s, no longer reflects the international balance of power in full and is in need of a reform.
🇷🇺 Russia advocates an approach that implies greater role and weight of the Global South and the Global East in the UN bodies, including the Security Council which is the most important of them.
When considering modernisation of the Organisation, it is important to focus on its Secretariat which is heavily overrepresented by the collective West which often ignores the principle of impartiality and takes advantage of the administrative resources to brazenly advance its national approaches, thereby violating Article 100 of the Charter which requires all UN Secretariat officials to remain neutral. This approach should not go unnoticed or unpunished.
❗️ We will ensure that the new Secretary-General to be elected in 2026 devotes much more attention to this issue.
In the face of the challenges posed by the new historical era, Russia is prepared to work together in an honest manner to unlock the creative potential of the UN based on the conscientious observance by all states of the principles of the Charter laid down by the founding fathers as an indivisible and interdependent whole.

• В июле-сентябре от действий ВСУ пострадали 1749 российских мирных жителей. 1532 человека ранены. Погибли 217 человек, включая 6 детей.
• Всего с февраля 2022 года от рук укронацистов пострадали порядка 24300 человек — мирных граждан. Из них ранены не менее 17205. Погибли 7094 человека, в т.ч. 234 ребёнка.
• За минувшую неделю от украинских артобстрелов и ударов беспилотников пострадало 105 росграждан, из которых 20 человек погибли, в т.ч. 1 ребёнок, 85 ранены, включая 7 несовершеннолетних.

300 Russian servicemen have been returned from territory controlled by the Kiev regime. In exchange, 300 Ukrainian POWs were handed over.
The Russian servicemen are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving the necessary psychological and medical assistance.
They will be transported to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation at medical facilities of the Russian Ministry of Defence.
🤝 Humanitarian mediation efforts by the UAE and the US contributed to the return of the Russian servicemen.

⚡️ Russia's Foreign Ministry statement on the situation around Iran
Moscow has received the news of the killing of the Supreme and Spiritual Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, members of his family, and senior Iranian officials in US and Israeli missile strikes with outrage and deep sorrow.
The Russian Federation strongly and consistently condemns the practice of political assassination and manhunt for leaders of sovereign states that goes against the fundamental principles of civilised interstate relations and constitutes a grave violation of international law.
In the course of continuing military operations, the number of casualties among civilians is constantly rising, with serious damage being inflicted on civilian infrastructure as well.
Retaliation strikes at the US military bases in the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, along with the activation of anti-aircraft defence systems, have caused damage to the international airports in Dubai, Kuwait City, sea ports, high-rises and hotels in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
It has been reported that navigation has been stopped in the Strait of Hormuz. This can lead to the blocking of hydrocarbon exports to the region and create a significant imbalance in the global oil and gas markets.
❗️ We call for immediate de-escalation, cessation of hostilities, resumption of political and diplomatic processes, to settle any existing problems on the basis of the UN Charter and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
The legitimate interests of all the states in the Persian Gulf must be taken into account.

❓ Question: Could you please comment on the EU adopting the 19th sanctions package?
💬 Maria Zakharova: We took note of the information that, on October 23, the EU Council approved the 19th package of illegal unilateral sanctions on our country.
The envisaged measures include:
• a ban on supplies of Russian LNG to the EU market through 2026;
sanctions on certain companies in the petroleum production and oil transport sectors (including Rosneft and Gazpromneft);
• additional restrictions on vessels that Brussels classifies as belonging to the so-called Russian shadow fleet;
• measures against some Russian and foreign banks;
• financial restrictions;
• a ban on the export of certain additional categories of goods.
Under various pretexts, targeted sanctions have been expanded against certain legal entities and individuals. In addition, a notification procedure is being introduced for the movement of Russian diplomats within the Schengen area outside the country of their accreditation.
In short, Brussels had to scrape real low in the barrel to fill its latest anti-Russia sanctions package.
Will these restrictions have any significant consequences for our country? The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas answered this quite pithily. Even before the adoption of the 19th package, she said that the EU had already begun working on the next one. It appears that even Brussels does not believe in the effectiveness of the sanctions pressure on Russia, yet they persist - with a perseverance that would be better applied elsewhere - on a course that is becoming ever more self-destructive for the European Union itself. And the issue is not only about the substantial harm to the economies and social spheres of EU member states.
Brussels seems to be oblivious to the fact that, in fighting the circumvention of anti-Russia sanctions, it is increasingly isolating itself on the international stage. Just within the last package, restrictions of various kinds under contrived pretexts have been imposed on economic operators from the PRC, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, the UAE, India, Thailand, and the DPRK.
By indulging its sense of exceptionalism, the EU is increasingly blackmailing third countries with the spread of secondary sanctions. In doing so, it is effectively declaring that it considers itself entitled to dictate the terms of trade and economic cooperation between sovereign states.
🤷♀️ The EU clearly fails to realise that such ambitions to act as a global policeman (or, if you prefer, a global customs officer) will inevitably have consequences for the EU’s place and role in the world.
Even more food for thought regarding the situation in the EU is provided by the provision in the 19th package banning European operators from providing services related to tourism in Russia.
Essentially, the EU is moving towards restricting the freedom of movement of its own citizens. Today, it’s a ban on tourism to Russia. What will be tomorrow? A permit system for travel beyond the EU’s “blooming garden?” Yet, the real reason behind this decision is not merely, and not even primarily, to reduce Russia’s earnings from European tourists. The main aim is to prevent the EU citizens who live in an information space cleansed of dissent and subjected to daily anti-Russian propaganda from seeing our country with their own eyes and having the opportunity to compare facts with the lies being fed to them.
☝️ Russia resolutely condemns any illegitimate unilateral coercive measures.
❗️ An increasing number of countries share and support this approach. Naturally, in response to this new EU sanctions package, effective and tough measures will follow from our side.
8️⃣0️⃣ years ago, on October 24, 1945, the Charter of the United Nations entered into force. This date marks the founding day of the UN.
The idea of creating a universal international organisation to maintain peace emerged during World War II. In 1943, at an international conference in Moscow, the foreign ministers of the USSR, the United States, the United Kingdom, and China signed a declaration that laid the foundation for the future United Nations.
In February 1945, at the Yalta Conference, the leaders of the three Allied powers – Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill – decided to convene a conference in San Francisco, where on June 26, 1945, 50 states signed the UN Charter.
The establishment of the United Nations marked the beginning of a new era in human history and became a natural outcome of World War II, expressing the global community’s determination to prevent such horrible massacre from ever happening again, and to resolve conflicts through consensus and compromise.

Strict compliance with the letter and spirit of the UN Charter is an indispensable condition for advancing towards a more peaceful, prosperous and truly just and equal world order.

💬 On October 24, the international community marks the 80th anniversary of the UN.
Its establishment was one of the key outcomes of the Victory in the Second World War. It was the defeat of Nazism – to which our country made a fundamental contribution – that created the conditions for forming a new system of international relations.
❗️ Having endured the unspeakable horrors of war, the international community set itself the noble goal of never again allowing such a destructive tragedy to occur.
The architects of the UN-centred world order were the leaders of the great victorious powers, who were able to rise above their disagreements for the sake of establishing lasting peace and security for all nations and peoples.
However, almost immediately, representatives of the Western “camp” set a course toward weakening the World Organization, preventing it from fully realizing its potential. Nevertheless, the UN has achieved many historically significant results, laying the foundation for the modern multipolar world order. A vivid example is the 1960 Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, adopted on the initiative of the Soviet Union, which led to the emergence of dozens of sovereign states across the world.
Recently, criticism of the UN has intensified. Some even claim it has fulfilled its historical mission and is no longer needed.
Indeed, the UN’s work faces many challenges – including the Secretariat’s bias, low efficiency, excessive bureaucracy, and irrational spending.
However, the root cause lies not in structural flaws but in how member states approach the Organization’s work and use the opportunities it offers. The UN merely reflects the political will and ability of its members to reach agreements.
All this, however, cannot call into question the indisputable fact that the UN is the most successful international organization in human history – its strength lies in its unprecedented representativeness and broad mandate.

The UN Charter remains fully relevant and continues to provide optimal answers to the challenges of the multipolar era. The fundamental principles of inter-state relations enshrined in it have stood the test of time and must be strictly observed in their entirety, interconnection, and consistency.
Of course, the UN must adapt to today’s polycentric realities.
☝️ At the same time, any changes must be rational and carefully balanced – aimed at strengthening the institutional foundations of the Organization, preserving the “division of labour” among its principal organs, and enhancing the UN’s effectiveness and operational capacity.
It is equally important that such reforms remain under the strict control of member states and lead to an increased role for the countries of the Global Majority.
🇷🇺 Russia, as a founding member of the UN and a permanent member of its Security Council, is fully aware of its responsibility for the Organization’s future.
The Russian Side stands ready, together with numerous like-minded partners, to continue working vigorously to ensure the full restoration of the UN’s central coordinating role in world affairs – as envisaged by Russia’s Foreign Policy Concept – and to seek the strict observance of the principles enshrined in its Charter.
